Raplala Pro Fishing game
Bass Fisherman, I have it and it came with no instructions so learning the game was pain. Now that I can play it I do not like it. It annoys the crap out of me so I gave up on it....and the stupid lure that came with the game has never caught a fish. Maybe I'll give both a shot again soon. Maybe not. Tom

Cold, Windy, Raining - Great Day to Fish!
I went out again Thanksgiving morning and only caught one 14" LMB. It was the strangest thing though. I cast my buzz bait out about 25' and when the retrieve got to about 12-15 out I got a hit, but he got off. I recast. same thing. I recast again and I'll be darned if I didn't get a 3rd hit in the same exact spot. I just couldn't hook that fish even with a trailer hook. I tried one more cast to the same place but got nothing. Then I altered my cast direction to the left about 15 degrees and I caught the one bass for the day at about 15' out. Now, I would have a hard time believing that the same fish hit three times but an even harder time believing that the fish I caught could have possibly been the one that had already struck my lure three times. I caught him in the general area of the other three strikes. Anyway, it was a nice way to work up an apetite for Thanksgiving. Tom

The men in Black may be looking for you...don't worry about the extremely short goofball. He's harmless...he's just the probe guy.

Spinning Reel Grease and Oil?
I was just going over responses to Deuceu72's thread about grease and oil on reels and realized everyone was talking baitcasters. I didn't want to hi-jack a really good thread about bait casters with questions on spinning reels and spin casters, which is what I like. I was planning to go through my reels this weekend to clean, lube and reline them. I purchased Quantum's Hot Sauce to do the lubing. From Reel Mech's post on Deuceu72's thread I am not so sure I should do that now. What lube is good for spinning gear and spin casters? By the way, I am a novice gunsmith and have worked on mechanical and electrical systems for years. I am just looking for lube recommendations. The Hot Sauce package (advertisement?) made it sound like this was the best stuff going. Thanks, Tom

Rod Upgrade
I am with Chris on this one. The BPS Extreme rods are nice but I must admit I have never owned a G-Loomis or a St. Croix but for $20. Why not give it a shot? I had a Shimano Stradic 4000 on a BPS Extreme and I loved that rod and reel set up. It now rests at the bottom of Lake Norman, unfortunately.....please don't ask how it got there. Another set up like that is on my Christmas list. I know my wife won't buy me the Stella that I want....

crawfish and their claws
Catt is dead on the money in regards to craws. My Dad fished for bass with all natural baits. He mostly used minnows, crawdas and worms. He hated lures but would use them if he thought they'd put food on the table. For a long time he pulled the pincers of craws for bass bait but he would use sinkers in a Carolina rig fashion to keep the craw in place so it wouldn't move around too much. He would catch bass on occasion but also catfish. When we moved to Arkansas a good ol' boy told my Dad how to get some action with live craws and his success went up...and so did his injuries from live craws nippin' at him while he rigged 'em up. ;D He didn't use 'em often for some reason...Hehehe

The Peacock Bass Story
Thanks for the pictures and the story Robert. That had to be the trip of a lifetime. I'd show my wife but then she would think I'm gettin' ideas and freeze the bank account...I guess it would be nice to send my Grandson to college though....but the thought did enter my mind. I guess I'll stick with LMBs in the local area.

And on a sports note: Go ME! I'm going fishing in the morning, I don't follow any team sports. 8-) Y'all enjoy your day watching and rooting for your favorite team. Don't eat or drink to much and if you drink please don't drive. Tom

Leaving work early anytime is good. Leaving work early to fish and catching a couple of fish is a bonus! Good for you.

Cold, Windy, Raining - Great Day to Fish!
I got up this morning before sun up and the weather was miserable. It was in the upper 30s, raining like crazy and windy with gusts over 30 MPH. I decided to go fishing anyway. My wife thought I was nuts but I donned my clothes and rain gear and took off for Blythe Landing on Lake Norman. The place was deserted. No boat trailers in the lot. I had it all to myself. The flags in front of the cafe and restrooms weren't just blowing straight out, they were blowing up at full tilt boogie. It was even windier at the lake than it was at home. I got out my rod, attached a new Boo-Yah buzz bait and went to work. Casting was interesting to say the least. Within three casts my hands were frozen. On cast number 4 I nailed a nice 3 pounder. On cast 5 I got a 1 pounder. My hands were no longer cold. After that Nothin', nada, zip. I tried several other lures but apparently I had missed the window. I spent about 2 hours on the shore in the driving rain having a great time all because of 2 fish and a buzz bait on a very windy and cold day. Life is good. I think I'll go back tomorrow morning. The weather is supposed to be a little bit better.

Getting my first tatoo.
Tiptruck, I got a tatoo of a pelican on my right upper arm when I was in the Navy. I got it because I wanted it and it looked cool. I have never regretted getting it and that was 26 years ago. I have thought about getting others but haven't. I have tried to have my pelican recolored but many of the tatoo artists in CA wouldn't do it or they wanted to modify it with their style. If you get this tatoo, make sure that it's what you want, not what the artist thinks it should be. If you walk into a Goth parlor your tatoo will have a Goth theme. Choose your artist well. Also, light colors fade fast. Unless you have an agreement for recoloring with the original artist you may not be able to find someone to recolor it, in my experience. Think well and choose wisely. You will wear this for a very long time.

My biggest bass yet!

High Tech vs. Low Tech, my last tournament
Ya done good Catt. I have a 12' V-bottom with a 9.9HP Merc on the back with no trolling motor and no fish-finder (Christmas is coming though) and you should see some of the looks I get sometimes. ;D I actually had a guy tell me to my tin can out of his way so a real bass boat could get into the water at the ramp one day. Sheesh, what a butthead. Later that day my wife and I returned to the lake with my Regal 2120 deck boat to do a little pleasure cruising. Mr. Butthead was back at the ramp. I couldn't help myself, I yelled over to the guy and asked him to get his skiff out of the way so a real boat could get into the water. Yeah, it was mean and vindictive but it felt sooooo gooood! 8-)

Is this change of life or what?
Just for the record: I have been married 26 years to most wonderful woman on the planet Earth...and I still look. It's like my wife says. "You can read the menu, you just can't order" I look, I don't ogle and stare. There is a difference.
