  1. That awesome story has been circulating around the internet for a few years now. Thanks for sharing it with us LBH. It's a story that needs to be told again and again.
  2. Great Post Fuzzymonkey and Welcome to the forum.
  3. Good one! ;D
  4. I bought a pair of these and they keep your hands warm and dry. BPS price $9.99. The thumbs and index fingers have slits to allow you to poke your fingers through to tie knots. http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=73534&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults I use some leather half finger gloves made by Wells Lamont. They are called SUGs (sport utility gloves) These are good when it's not too cold out but still need something to keeps your hands warm. http://www.wellslamont.com/styledetail.tpl?style=836 Tom
  5. 21 first time, 29 the second. Thanks Muddy Man
  6. I haven't caught one bass on a chatterbait. I have tried different methods, yo-yoing, letting it drop to bottom, bringing it in fast and slow...nothing. I have tried different colors. Maybe it's not the right lure for the area I am in and it might be that the lure has been used so much in my area that the bass are wise to it. Who knows, one day I may try it and WHAM! My PB Bass I do not break 'em out when I want to do some serious fishing. I try 'em as back-ups to "nothin' else worked" I won't discount 'em though. I may find water one day that bass like 'em and hit 'em hard. But for now I'll stick with what works on my lake. 8-)
  7. Yes, a fishfinder will give you depth as well as some information about the bottom terrain as well as the possibility of fish.
  8. I always throw a lure back across the same retrieve line if I get a strike but no hookup and quite often I get a strike in the very same spot. I usually nab the bass the second time around.
  9. Howdy and welcome.
  10. Purple Worms... I heard that same guff when I was a kid in the '70's on Beaver Lake in Arkansas and I've been hearing it ever since. If purple worms worked so well there would be no other lures to choose from. I personally don't care for 'em. Jomatty has the right idea. Tom
  11. Good advice Road Warrior. People also have to remember that this sight has members from all over the place so what might work for me where I fish might not work at all in another state, lake or pond. As for equipment, people should buy what they can afford and work their way into higher end equipment if they wish to do so. Just because someone has a cheapo rod and reel matters not to the fish at all. It's how the equipment is used that catches the fish. The same goes for lures in many cases, not all, but many. This high end equipment phenomena doesn't just happen with fishing gear, it's pervasive through out all types of sports and hobbies. I should now. I am into Cowboy Action Shooting and other shooting sports. The equipment race is incredible. It's human nature, especially male human nature. Tom
  12. Avid, You have a knack for truly putting things into perspective. Fishing with slugs...
  13. Charcoal or some baking soda.
  14. You could carry a squirt gun and everytime he stares at another woman you could just blast him to cool his jets and get his attention. ;D I have to admit, I am a girl watcher and my wife knows it but I am not impolite about it and I think I know my bounds in regards to respect for my wife and looking at other Ladies. All guys do it in one fashion or another, some just don't know when enough is enough. Sometimes those fellas need to be told about it. I would have a sit down with him and just tell him how you feel....and keep the squirt gun standing by.
  15. Cool! Let us know how it turns out. 8-)
  16. I guess I am odd man out here or just a relic...I use the Improved Clinch Knot for everything in regards to attaching lures, hooks, etc...to a line. I actually have tried the palomar knot recently, because of this thread, but I don't trust it yet. Here is a knot website that has some good info: http://www.netknots.com/html/fishing_knots.html
  17. Rolo, It's funny you should mention this. I just got back from BPS a little while ago and while there I found packages of #2 line locks / clips in packages labeled #1. This was not a mistake made at the BPS store. It was a mistake made at the manufacturing and/or labeling facility. The clips were made in China. I have no idea where they are packaged but I have a feeling they were packaged for BPS in China. It's my opinion that low dollar items like clips and sinkers are not high on the QC inspection list for BPS, Cabelas, Gander Mountain, etc... But, it is my opinion that they should be, especially for people who order by mail. Tom
  18. Something else to keep in mind; Wear clothing that is the color of the surroundings that you are fishing in when shore fishing. Bright colors may scare off the fish you are looking for. You don't need to camo out but subdued green, grey or brown clothing will help tremendously. Lures: I would try Carolina or Texas rigged worms in a variety of colors. Perhaps chartreuse, watermelon, or june bug. Shad colored crankbaits might be a good lure to try. My favorite river lure, the Rapala floater in silver/black. On cloudy days try a blue/silver floater. Cast it and leave it set for a bit and twitch it like a wounded minnow. If the current is too fast fish it like a crank bait after a couple of twitches. If you don't get any action is fairly short order switch tactics to another type lure. Try some spinner baits in white/silver or chartreuse/silver or brass. If you get there at sunrise try a buzz bait out. White/solver works for me. The fish may or may not respond, depending upon where they are staged due to temperature but so far I haven't had any problems getting action from them this Fall. A lot just depends on the area you fish. The lures I mentioned may not work at all for you. Then again they may be just the ticket. Spend time talking with folks you meet and don't be afraid to ask questions. Most times people are very willing to helpout a new fisherman. They may not give you all of their secrets but quite often they will give you enough info to get you into catching some fish. Good luck and let us know how you do. Tom
  19. You might want to mention where you are fishing. You might find that there are some folks from Kentucky that may have some good info to help you out. By the way, Welcome! 8-)
  20. Thanks Troutfisher. None at all
  21. Cade, I *** you Man. 8-) Your post reminds me of good times I had when I was your age, fishing with my brother and our buddies. Those were good times. Don't chance the ice though, river ice can be a very dangerous thing. Be darn careful and please don't take any chances. Okay?
  22. Maybe if your friend got a ticket he would learn to slow down. The fines and cost of insurance would surely get his attention. Unfortunately, this is the only way some people learn.
  23. Florida...and he's wearing a sweat shirt....It's dark....What's the temp there at this time of year? I think he has got something up his sleeve/// Nice catch Sirmo 8-)
