  1. PapaRock, If I did seemthing like that with jewelry the darn fish would swallow it and my wife would release the fish feeling sorry for it, I'm sure. ;D
  2. One piece of advice. The lures in the center aisle bins look like good deals but often they seem to be the leftovers that no one buys for whatever reason. Look for the red tags on items for good deals. They do have some really good deals on rod and reel sets. Ask the guys working there about deals. They are very helpful. Have fun at BPS.
  3. I flatten the barbs on smaller lures so as not to hurt the smaller fish that sometimes have no sense of lure size when attacking. I hate to badly injure a small fish that might just grow up to be a lunker. Sneaky Snook, Good on you for being a considerate Dad.

WOW! Nice Work Whittler and KB. Do either of you sell the lures you make? If so I would appreciate a PM with contact info and prices. Thank you, Tom
  5. Try this, call a few welding shops in the area and see if they work with aluminum. If they do, tell them what you are looking to do and see if they can do it for you economically. If not, go back to wood and treat it good so it lasts.
  6. Brushpileberry, Thanks for posting this thread. I have been married for 26 years and my wife will not fish with me. She will go out in the boat with me while I fish. I guess that's pretty good and I do enjoy her company. Also, she goes to Bass Pro with me and sees the money I spend on fishing gear and doesn't make too much of a fuss. The kicker is, I just had hernia surgery today and she has offered to take me shore fishing this weekend since I can't drive for a couple of days and operating the boat is out. I did tell her that if I hook a big one she will have to reel it in for my since I am not allowed to lift more than 10 lbs and I can't do any pushing or pulling over that amount. I am hoping to make a hook up with a decent bass and then hand her the pole just to see if that lights a fire in her. 8-) I will get her a license just in case that does happen. I wouldn't want her to get a citation reeling in her first fish....and I figure if she has a license she just might want to try it more often. ....and if she fishes more often we will need more gear. I mean, if she takes over two or three of my poles I will obviously need to replace them. Hehehe
  7. Who all is invited and where is Fork Lake? Inquiringmindswanttoinquire...?
  8. Flechero, Sounds like a good plan. I can always use the extra gas can later. Thanks
  9. Why don't you try having a dealer sell it on consignment. They do all the work. You may not get as much but they get the hastle.
  10. I've eaten Muskie as a kid and I remember that I liked it. It was fried in Crisco with salt and pepper and I used my favorite condiment for fish at the time...Heinz ketchup. I remember that it tasted somewhat like cod fish. That was at least 35 years ago. My Dad nearly worshipped Muskies and very rarely didn't catch and release, but on occasion he would keep a legal small one for eating.
  11. I have a Bass Pro Shop not 3 miles from my house. My wife is amazed if I walk out of there without spending at least $65.
  12. Thanks for the links guys. I have a canoe and was thinking of using it for fishing. These ideas will come in handy.
  13. Nice boat. Here are a couple websites that might help you get this boat ready for next season: http://www.westmarine.com/?iorb=4764 http://www.overtons.com/ Overton's prices are better but West does have some things that Overton's doesn't. Good luck with your new boat. Tom

    Nice Bass!
  15. Awe, somebody must have dropped a pole. ;D Welcome Nathan! Great video LBH. 8-)
  16. A lot depends upon the fishes diet and environment.
  17. Claude, Look at my avatar, then look just below it. I am not "in the North"....But, Thanks for your recommendation. Impessive fire!, by the way. Reminds me of the desert. I miss the desert and the West on some days....the days I'm not fishing...
  18. My goal is learn Lake Norman a bit better and to also do some Striper fishing this winter. I also plan to get a decent bait caster reel and rod and practice casting and retreiving. I am not a fan of bait casters but I am willing to learn.
  19. Welcome Maybe the skunk is your good luck charm
  20. Use a heavier jig to break the ice......when it takes a chevy to break the ice stop fishing and head home for the warmth....don't forget to call the insurance company regarding the chevy.... ;D
  21. Try some J-B Weld Marine epoxy on the offending rivets and joints. It truly does work.
  22. Thanks Gents but there is no way I'll put this gas in my car or truck and the landfills here do not process gasoline. Maybe I'll check with some garages nearby as Way2Slow suggests.
  23. Airborne Angler, My opinion is not to raise your seat height. Your stability in such a small boat will be diminished. I have a 12' V-bottom Lowe "Sea Nymph" with a 9.9 HP Merc. I was very happy with it until I took it out on my local lake during a windy day. I darn near flipped it over running at about 15mph when the chop and the wind were just right for disaster. I fish Lake Norman and it's a big lake. Too big for little boats like mine in windy conditions. I am searching for a bigger fishing boat.....
  24. I have about 5 gallons of gas that I need to dispose of. It's mixed with oil and Ihave no idea what to dowith it. When I lived in CA there were companies affiliated with our garbage collection companies that would help you dispose of such things. I now live in NC and I have no idea where to dump this gas. Anyone have any ideas? I will not just dump it. I want to dispose of it properly without having to pay a lot of money for haz mat fees. I am converting the "little" boat's fuel system and I need to get rid of this old gas.
