  1. I like the specs on that 7'6 rod. How do you plan on using it?
  2. Very true. I have a very stout spinning rod. When I put braid on it, I can easily punch with 1oz jigs.
  3. The company website is still up so you might be able to get the parts from them: http://www.usreel.com/
  4. I saw the same thing yesterday. I was standing on a bridge over the water looking at a shallow part of the pond. I noticed lots of fish sunning there. There were several bass and lots of little fish (minnows I think) all in the same area. They were all swimming around peacefully. I threw a lizard in the area and didn't get a nibble. I begin to wonder if it would be possible to catch bass in that state. With all the little minnows around, they have the opportunity to eat them and they are not even interested. What would make them interested in my plastic lizard?
  5. I think that Savage Gear is affiliated with Okuma. So it is definitely legit. "Developed and retailed in Europe, Okuma Fishing Tackle has brought Savage Gear to the United States. Our selection is concise, focusing on the most unique and productive of the selection, but be assured, there’s more to come."
  6. I've seen used C3 model go from $35 to about $60 depending on the condition. So that could serve as your baseline.
  7. Just take it back to BPS (if you have one close to you) and they will most likely replace it.
  8. Thanks for the heads up boys. I'll be trying the chatterbait and spinnerbaits this afternoon....in addition to jigs and shaky head. So many to try, so little time.
  9. I don't remember the specific details like size or the type of lure, but I do remember my friend bugging me about going fishing with him. I finally caved and went along. He let me borrow his extra rod and even pre-rigged it for me. On my first cast ever, I caught a bass! It wasn't huge, but a bass on the first cast ever was pretty exciting for me. I was hooked on fishing ever since.
  10. I noticed the Xcalibur baits too, but I didn't pick up any. I did get the Strike King Shellcrackers for $3.49 per pack. Not all the colors were on clearance, but the ones that I wanted were!
  11. I know that you are asking about wires, but I have been using the small plastic wire ties for my jigs, spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. They seem to be working fine and holding up well.
  12. Maybe that would explain why my Yu-Zuri feels lumpy on my reel. But when I examined the line from the bulk spool, it seems to be smooth.
  13. What did the wife purchase at Cableas??
  14. Nice. I had my best day on a chatterbait last fall. Got about 20 fish in about 5 hours. I can't wait to get back out there with the chatterbait and have another record day.
  15. I have changed out many of my hooks on crankbaits to circle hooks. I find that they get hung up a lot less than trebles. I have only caught a few fish on them (not very proficient with crankbaits yet) and they seem to hook up fine. I know that Yo-Zuri sell lures that come with circle hooks.
  16. I have replaced many of my crankbaits with circle hooks and I get a lot less hang ups.
  17. I use circle hooks on many of my techniques. They are great since the hooks set themselves. I especially like to use them when I put the rods in holders and the fish gets hooked while swimming away with the lure.
  18. I am glad that they came out with a jr version. I have both the original and the jr, I can't wait to use them both.
  19. Blue/black jigs have been very successful for my fishing buddy during the VA winter.
  20. Wow, that is going above and beyond! I am impressed.
  21. I don't use braid very often, but when I do I always get caught a little off guard and think that something is grinding. I am sure if I used it more, I'd get used to it.
  22. I like the eagle stripping the drag...
  23. You can still get the Abu Vendetta at some Walmarts for $30. The Berkley Lightning Shock are pretty good rods also.
  24. I agree with several of the other posts. There is a certain amount of luck involved. The only time when it is "all skill" is when you can actually see the fish.
  25. Hello Bass Resource friends, I will be visiting Gulfport MS for a few days, and I want to bring a rod with me and try out some of the ponds in that area. I would appreciate suggestions from any local guys regarding what lure would be the most effective down in that area. I am really excited about the possibility of catching a December bass. It has been a cold and tough month in VA. So I am hoping that my chances will be better down south. Thank you in advance!! Happy New Year!
