  1. When Gary Dobyns talked me out of a Champion Extreme for my Tube/Rage Rigs and recommended the Champion 733, I was left with ok? Your the boss and I know nothing about your rods, so ok! He was right, the 733 is the perfect blend between a MF and a MHF rod. This rod feels amazing. This is my first Dobyns and first rod this high end. Cork is amazing. I've got a 745 DX on the way too, so I'm even more excited! I took my 50E off my top water rod to see how it felt. I need a new 50E for my top water rod now lol.
  2. I may have went overboard. I worked almost 45 hours OT in August, so I spoiled myself. Dobyns Champion Extreme 745 Dobyns Champion 733 Tatsu line Hats Jigs Plastics Cranks
  3. Rarely do I have to explain myself, but come out to western Kansas and do a few early Pheasant hunts. You will appreciate 10" boots
  4. Hey guys, I haven't tried out Overholser yet and was thinking of making a drive Wednesday morning. Anyone have any tips or hot spots lately? Provided its not blowing 40 plus, I will be able to run my Pelican. Thanks!
  5. I have two of those in my garage. Keeps everything out of the way and didn't break the bank
  6. Did you ever watch the Kill of the Hill episode when Hank was using crack as bait? They were jumping in the boat. I can see the sales slogan now......."The new KVD Crack bait.......The fish will literally jump into you boat" As for KVD, don't mind him. he sampled the product too much. The jitters and imaginary voices will subside in a few days
  7. On the back of a flipping jig, I rig it horizontal. On the back of a swim jig, vertical. Same goes when I rig it Rage Rigged. If you run it on a 4/0 Stroker hook or a weighted swim bait hook horizontal and burn it across the surface, it doubles as a small buzz bait. Puts off a crap load of vibration and water for such a small little bait.
  8. Lol. At first my neighbors would look at me funny, but now they wave and go about their business. I've had two come over and ask me how to pitch jigs.
  9. Matt. Tubes, in my opinion, are much better suited weedless. Makes for a better day of fishing not dealing with hang ups. I use only one style of hook, and for me, it seems to make the tube last longer and sit better on the hook. I use the Gamakatsu Skip gap hook. The tube can rest on the shelf of the hook and seldom slips off. Strike King 4" Coffee tubes and Berkley Smash tubes work well with a 4/0. The Denny Brauer Strike King tube works well with a 5/0. The 3.5" tubes from Strike King and most others work better with a 3/0. Its a light wire hook so if your going to use a heavy fluoro or braded line, don't lay the wood to them on the hookset. You will flatten the hook out. If you want a weight for the tube, there are two ways (that I use) to make it weedless. First is the standard Texas Rigged style. This is one of the most popular ways as its cheap and easy. My favorite way to rig them is using the internal tube weight by Bass Pro. Basically run the open end toward the head of the tube. I use some scent gel like Megastrike to make it go in easier. Run the hook point through the nose of the tube, through the hole in the tube weight and texas rig it. Wala! Weightless and ready to go. They also make the weight with a rattle attached. With a weighted exposed jig head and the internal tube weight, it gives the tube erratic action on the fall. The Texas rigged weight on the outside, gives the tube a straight fall.
  10. Has anyone tried the strike king coffee spray they have?
  11. How heavy of jigs are you running? I use 1/2oz and like a heavy action with fast tip. I prefer braid for jigs, but I'm experimenting with some Seaguar Tatsu Fluoro in 20# on my jig rod right now.
  12. I'm addicted to it too. I get out in the front yard and practice all the time. I get bored easily and it passes the time.
  13. I bite about 3/4" off the tail on my Rage Craw's all the time. While its not a 27 day old age Kansas Ribeye, they don't taste too bad. Now the Netbait Paca craws........Don't bite them. I have an iron gut, that that crap turned me green!
  14. I have a BP 1/4 mile from where I work, and an Academy 2 miles from my house. I pass Dicks and another Academy on my way home from work.......Your pain is felt lol
  15. Gotcha, In that case (sorry didn't see your age), if your happy with the Ethos/Mettle combo, I'd go with another one. Eventually down the road, you will want a rod with great sensitivity for bottom contact jigs, but you've got a few years to worry about that.
  16. So you threatened a friend for legally taking something that the state has entitled him to harvest? Sit back and think about what you did. I'd feel about 1" tall after doing that. Come on, you have to draw a line between a conservative sportsman and a rice cake eating vegan anti war hippie with no job.
  17. Anyone who wears out there welcome on a friends honey hole otta be taken out back and beat. But on the whole eating fish debate, you can argue either way good or bad. If you harvest fish legally, its your state give right to do so. You don't hear Deer hunters say "wow that's just too big a Buck to take, it took him so long to get that big" No, they take him.
  18. KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!! I don't leave my house without my Glock. That said discharging your weapon at a snake may not always be the safest or the most "legal" method to protect yourself at times. If I'm bank fishing in grass, I have a thick pair of 10" waterfowl boots I wear. I've had hundreds if not more strikes on these boots and no holes in the legs!
  19. What's your budget on rod and reel for the jig set up?
  20. I can't say whether or not it attracts fish, but does make them hold on longer. It also removes your scent as well. I do know this, of all the stinky factory scents, JJ's dip and everything else, the plastics that have been out of the bag or on a jig for a few days to weeks, the only ones that still have any smell to them at all are the Rage Tail Coffee scented plastics.
  21. Jigs Jigs Jigs! I have two. A flipping jig set up and a swim jig set up. I have one tied on at all times.
  22. A buddy of mine had been deployed back in 2005 and said the same thing. I've got friends from Hooper Bay Alaska that come down here in the fall and wear shorts and tank tops. The "heat" kills them lol
  23. He said Train, not micro machine.
  24. Yup! Bass tackle depot and American Legacy fishing are having their Labor Day sales going on right now. 20% and 15% off. I would get a Dobyns Champion. They run 250 ish new and with the sale, will run 30-40 bucks off. The Chapion Xtreme will run you 280 after the sale too.
