  1. I agree. I have a cheap Abu I got from walmart for 10 bucks on sale. Its a medium 6' fast. I bought it for my son but have been using it for top water when fishing off docks and peers. The 6' length is night and day difference when running poppers and snooks against my 7' rods
  2. My soon to be step dad fishes off the coast of Oregon and is always teasing me with pictures of his monster catches. I have an open invitation to join him. This looks like a blast!
  3. Crimeny I bet that was a hellova fight!
  4. I just got my order in from North Star in today. I had no idear the skirt was so long on the Hippy Jig. I love it. I cant wait to get out and fish these! New order being placed next week for a bunch more!! Thanks North Star

You can have unlimited options with both weapons. I think the M1A is the better deal. Mag's and spare parts are more available than the AR series. Only draw back to your M1A is you can have it in 308 or 308. Your AR series is a lot wider. Anything based off a 308 case from 243 to 7.62 X47L There is a reason why all the M14's were pulled from retirement.
  6. That is just super cool.
  7. I typically bring all 4 bait casters and my only spinning combo so 5. I shore fish, so I haven't invested in several more combos yet as lugging 5 with two boxes, fish basket and plastics bag is enough. Basically my spinnging set up is for senkos. I have two jig rods. One 1/2 oz and higher and one for lighter jigs. A crank rod and a top water rod.
  8. I agree. If he wants to drop 3 bills on it great, but like snook said for 100 or less he can get something very very nice. Have him check the house brands from Bass Pro Cabelas etc.
  9. Dude, Beaver Lake?????? So not fair. Thats a hellova lake man. My old man got to fish a trouney up there several years ago and had a blast
  10. As a mod, admin an owner of several forums I can tell you that the main reason is this is a family site. They want it kept that way. If you wont say it around your preacher, wife, GF, mom or grandma, dont say it here. I dont think people are scared of them. Its kinda like spilling a beer on a guys carpet youve known for about a week. You want to be a good guest.
  11. I agree. You can rent them for the day for like 19.99 in some areas provided you dont go over 100 miles
  12. True. I have a Shakespeare Sigma as a loaner reel that I bought new. Does the same thing as this Quantum. Not a screech, more of a low bzzzzzzzzz as it leaves the reel.
  13. I have a few 100-150 price range baitcasters and have been primarily using them lately. I pulled an older Quantum Iron out of the box lubed and cleaned it today. Had a medium rod I thought I might make a 2nd jig set up with. Spooled it up with 15 pound fluoro and set it all up. First cast noticed that "hum". What causes that? Is it typical with a lower quality reel or is something worn out etc? No backlashes or casting issues that I could tell. I do remember dad paying like 80 bucks for it from Cabelas 10 years ago or so, so I know its not the most expensive but not a 20 dollar walmart special.
  14. One thats not in my driveway and in the lake.
  15. Good job. If I break my PB of 4.7 pounds this year, its getting mounted
  16. my mistake. I thought he was talking about them. Oops
  17. Bass Pro has several house brand combos in that range. I don't use then to often to give a fair assement on types etc as I use an ugly stick combo from walmart ive had for 10 years. Its like 30 bucks and seems to work well. I have used 8 pound line up to 12 pound without any problems. My advice is buy cheap now and save up for a decent combo later
  18. Mom said they have been catching snapper off the coast in Oregon. Said it puts freshwater fish to shame. Anyone ever tried it fresh?
  19. With a 5.2:1 gear ratio, you want to use it for crank baits. Slow retrieve with that gear is better for deep diving cranks. Plastics and jigs you kinda want a faster retrieve. I love the Ugly stick. I have 2 and both I'm running 15 pound fluoro. I'd stay away from 8 pound mono on that set up. You will want a stronger line when running crank baits. I don't go any lower than 12 pound myself.
  20. Just take some heavy duty aluminium foil and lay it flat. Spray some pam or olive oil on the foil. Add some lemon pepper and alittle salt. Add the fish in bit size pieces and take a bit of butter or oil and shower in lemon pepper. Roll it all up and seal it as best as you can. Throw it on the bbq grill on low for about 15 minutes or oven on at 350 for about 25-30 minutes. You dont have to turn it as its in foil. All the juices and smell stay in the foil and dont escape. You sometimes have to eat it with a spoon as its so tender. Cook some rice potatoes and shower it with some soy sauce and you got yourself a hellova meal!
  21. I keep alot of fish I catch. My girlfriend and I eat alot of fish. Probably 2 times a week. Bass is great. I don't fry anything anymore, I cook it on the bbq grill in foil with a small amount of butter and lemon pepper. Walleye and Crappie taste better, but bass is at the top of the fish scale
  22. True. This spot is nice, its a huge lake with alot of areas to fish and very kid friendly. Its on the way home from work too which is nice. Around central OK, the LM fishing is not very good. Lake Hefner is the only place I have ever been able to find any though.
  23. I seriously wouldn't waist alot of time and energy on finding out what they are feeding on. It really can only be a few things. I'd spend all the extra time you have on finding out what they are doing, where they are hiding etc.
