  1. That would be a great choice...I have a 2 that I've been using for a couple of years now and have not had any issues whatsoever. I find myself picking up my Lew's reels way more often than my Abu's
  2. Wow...What a day!!! That would be a good year for me
  3. It's a pretty good set up for the price...It will be good to learn on...I have a black max and a silver max that have been going strong for a couple of years now with no major issues. That being said, once you get it down and fall in love with baitcasters you will want to upgrade to something a little more durable. I prefer Lew's reels myself. They are very reasonably priced and rock sollid. I have 3, and couldn't tell you the last time any of them had a backlash. Even casting directly into a stiff breeze.
  4. He came up twice before i could get him in the boat and had some serious head shakes going on that scared me a little but once I got a hold of him, he had given up i guess...I will definitely have a jig tied on one of my rods at all times for awhile.
  5. Man I was shaking like a leaf when I saw how big he was. I was fumbling around trying to get the net. I just knew I was gonna mess it up, but when I finally got him in the boat I was so pumped up. That day will always be in the back of my mind on any future "slow" days. It only takes one cast to turn a bad day into your best fish ever. Hope it also teaches me to focus more on each cast regardless of what has happened so far that day.
  6. love fishing a jig around shallow cover. also texas rigged worm or lizard. oh yeah, and would fish sqarebills all the time if I could get away with it.
  7. Welcome to the site...there is more information on here than you could ever read and the people are very helpful. My biggest rule of thumb is to use more natural colored lures in clear water and in muddier water use colors that contrast better like black.
  8. thanks Frog Turds...haven't been on here in a while...didn't know that thread was out there
  9. yeah he surprised me...didn't have a bite all day but about the time I was gonna give up, there he was
  10. I've been bass fishing for about 2 years now. This is my first ever 5 lb bass. It was also 22 inches long. Caught him on a black and blue jig. What's your personal best? And what did you catch it on?
  11. I didn't know much about Howell before this tournament but I think I have a new favorite angler. He is very humble and carries himself as a good Christian man. I wish children today had more people in sports like him to look up to. Couldn't think of anyone more deserving of a special day of fishing. Congrats.
  12. Lew's speed spool...only $99...no need to spend any more...great reel
  13. I love these reels...I find myself reaching for my speed spool more than my abu's these days...I will only be buying speed spools going forward...you can't beat this reel for the price.
  14. Bo Jackson was one of the best atheletes of all time....As an Auburn fan I had the opportunity to watch him play football and baseball in person and at no point in his college career and probably pro as well that he wasn't the best player on the field...It was a shame that his career was cut short. Would have loved to been able to watch him play for many more years
  15. I love this reel. I've had mine almost a year and haven't had one problem with it. Very sturdy when fighting a fish and casts like a dream. I seriously can't remember one backlash on this reel. I would highly recommend it.
  16. I am pretty new to baitcasters myself. I would recommend the Lew's speed spool. It's usually $99. I use it more than my abu garcia revo sx lately. Almost impossible to make it backlash. I was able to dial it in within about 10 casts. Awesome reel for a good price.
  17. Evan Gattis....No doubt about it. He is country strong. 14 home runs and he isn't even a full time player. HR derby is made for him.
  18. Love that show. If you make it through an episode without laughing til your side hurts then you have no pulse. Can't wait for more new episodes.
  19. Good rod for the money. I have no complaints with mine.
  20. I guess a better way to put it is that I need to be able to take those weather conditions and seasonal patterns and narrow down places that will give me a better chance of being on the fish.
  21. Can't beat Tackle Warehouse in my opinion. They have great prices, stuff on sale that you will actually use, and great shipping prices. I buy almost everything there. I have also gotten a few free t-shirts with my orders.
  22. As a beginner in the bass fishing world I would love to be able to learn these patterns and behaviors. I have pretty good success catching them when I find the bass but most of it is just being at the right place at the right time. Where I need to improve is having a plan before I hit the lake to minimize the days I go out and get skunked due to primarily being in the wrong areas.
  23. That video just moved Gerald Swindle to the top of my list. Being from Alabama he reminds me of alot of my buddies. That would be one fun day of fishing. That dude is hilarious
  24. 1) Yamamoto Senko - Baby bass 2) Rage Tail recon worm - Falcon lake craw 3) Rage Tail space monkey - Bama bug Can't go wrong with any of these
  25. Had to be fishing on my honeymoon with my new bride. That was an awesome week.
