  1. wow thanks for all of the opinions everyone. I'm around 5'10" so I do question the length of the rod also. 7+ foot rods have never been a problem in any other situation so I'll most likely stick with a 7' medium xf/f rod, but I may try a shorter rod such as a 6'8" if I can get my hands on one to test out with some diff jerkbaits.
  2. roadwarrior and bmlum415 it's funny that you mention these rod choices, they are actually the two I have looked into. I assume you have had no problems with either rod? thanks for your opinion guys
  3. Currently looking into buying a jerkbait rod but would love to know others opinions on rod lengths, tapers, action, etc. Also if you like a specific rod/brand how long have you owned it and have you experienced any problems? Thanks!

Would love to get some real input on the new "spybaiting" technique and if anyone has had success on it yet. I haven't had a chance to buy any yet but have been leaning towards trying them out for high pressured areas.
  5. Are there any Maryland boaters who are looking for a co-angler for bass tournaments? I currently do not have my own yet, but I am a looking to get my name out in the bass fishing circuits as a co-angler first. Feel free to send me a private message here and I will respond immediately. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you!

Powell 7'7" Med Hvy Flippin Rod, Revo Stx 7:1:1, 65 Pound Sunline FX2 Braid, 1/2oz to 1oz weight, bobber stopper (doesn't really matter which brand) and a VMC 5/0 Flippin Hook, Bait depends on conditions
  7. I've never experienced a problem with SK KVD squarebills. Mine have always run very well
  8. Mann's jelly worm
  9. I tend to fish spooks out over points although you can definitely throw them shallow. I will also use spooks on clear, sunny days. I tend to use buzzbaits more in the evening hours, low light conditions, overcast, and defnitely shallow. I have never thrown a buzzbait out over deep open water.
  10. War Eagle 3/8oz Spinnerbait in Mouse color. I flat out catch them on this. In the water it looks a lot like a crappie.
  11. I seem to have lost my fair share of spinnerbaits. Nothing too expensive but I have lost very big fish to them. The worst was an 8 pounder that grabbed it two feet from the boat and then literally seconds later rubbed a tree sticking out of the water to break my line....I almost jumped in after her.
  12. It honestly depends on what type of structure you are throwing to and what you believe is down by the fish. If you think it is just rock then I would not hesitate to throw smaller diameter line such as 10 or 12 pound. It will allow you to get the lure down to it's true running depth.
  13. Does anyone know where I can find some older gen 3 revos? Ebay?
  14. Spro Bronzeye 65, Nasty Shad, Bluebird Sky's for this particular color, and moderate to clearer water color
  15. I should have also mentioned that I grew up as a shoreline fisherman with my father, but have fished all of the reservoirs in MD with my friend and their boats. I love throwing spro frogs, senkos, spinnerbaits, jigs, and flipping and pitching. I would say my strongest attribute is flipping and pitching and that the technique I still need work on would be deep structure fishing.
  16. What's up everyone, I'm new to the forums and have only had an account for around two weeks. I'm from Carroll County, more specifically the Manchester area. I don't have my own boat yet (you have no idea how much it pains me to say that) but frequently use a john boat with a minn kota trolling motor on my girlfriends private lake/pond (I give it this designation because it is almost too large to be considered a pond. My personal best is roughly 8.5 lbs which I caught sometime last spring during the spawn. I cannot wait to get my own boat sometime within the next two years and start to fish the potomac! I look forward to getting to know all the other MD anglers on here!
  17. I agree with this, seems to work best for me as well. I'm not saying bass don't want them on a fast retrieve at times but usually it seems to put off a little too much vibration for the fish when it's done that way.
  18. I used to have the same problem, but as others noted: it has to be a line drive or hard-driven cast to your target.
  19. Also, in dead calm water you can't go wrong with a spro frog. Spro is my hands down favorite topwater bait on the market because it can imitate so many things, not just a frog.
  20. Water clarity, wind, water temp, sky clarity all come into play. I have always found that basic colors such as white, clear with black flake, green pumpkin, silver/black all work very well. I have never tried red but I would be willing to bet it works well in stained water.
  21. Honestly I have always enjoyed Shimano spinning reels but have never thought about buying their rods.
  22. Couldn't agree more, Iove my STX and S but I seem to have the same issue with that screw that loosens the side plate to reach the brakes. I think the next time I check out a reel it will probably be a Tournament MG.
  23. Got my TW order the other day: -6 packs of Yamamoto Senko's (all awesome colors that were previously sold out and I catch fish on constantly) -2 War Eagle 3/8 oz spinnerbaits (one of which I previously lost to a 7 pounder) -2 Eco Pro Tungsten 1/2 oz jigs -2 new spro frogs -2 packs of zoom salty pro chunks for my jigs -1 Tackle Warehouse sticker....because I didn't already have enough of those haha
  24. It really depends, I love throwing spro frogs and I have found that the main difference between slight twitches/slight pops and walking the dog really depends on weather and water clarity. If you seem to have problems generating bites on frogs add some glass beads to the frog or rattles. Sometimes when the bass seem finickey and unwilling to fully commit a rattle will set them over the edge. Other times frogs may get heavily used in the area so a different pause/retrieve method for the frog will work better than another. You just need to test different approaches out to find what the bass want!
  25. That's weird, when do you use the glue? When the bait is wet? If so I can see why it may happen, I tend to use it after a day on the water when the bait is dry. If you use gorilla glue when the bait is dry you shouldn't have any issues with foaming.
