  1. Imagine if, like fish, a dog could move freely and do all of its normal activities but didn't have a voice. Then imagine sticking a hook in the dog's back. He's going to flail around and run around and bite at the wound because it hurts and he's confused. Now give a fish a voice. You think he's going to stay silent when you hook him? Just because fish don't have arms, legs, necks, or a voice doesn't mean they're not clearly expressing pain. They're doing it how they know. The only way they know. "swimming away" which while in midair it just looks like "flopping". Come on y'all are smarter than this. Researchers, media outlets, and pros of all sorts in all sports always have strings attached to their arms and a deep pocket of cash to reach into if they say what someone wants them to say or hear what someone wants them to hear.
  2. Put a hook through your back and under your spine and let me know how much you wriggle around.
  3. When hooking a small baitfish, let's say, a small mullet, sucker minnow, whatever... in the nose or maybe under the spine in the back, it goes like this: fetch the fish from the bait bucket fish squirms around a bit because he's being scooped out of the water fish squirms around for 10-15 seconds until you firmly grasp them and they relax the SECOND that hook breaks the skin, they squirm and they squirm a lot. They flinch hard, and don't stop squirming around after 10-15 seconds. It's obvious that it hurts. It's pretty obvious. Same thing with simply getting the hook out of a bass's mouth. If it's a tough hook to get out, when prying at the hook, they can flop around due to the obvious pain. I'm no scientist but it seems pretty obvious to me.
  4. Someone up above me mentioned that this thread is silly... Yeah.. Kinda. What I think is silly is that some people still believe fish don't feel pain. You must not fish much to believe that.
  5. Yeah. Chance. Your rigging looks spot on. Just like it should be. It's down, simply, to the fish not fully mouthing it and/or you setting the hook in the perfect way to pull it out of their mouth rather than in it... For example.. If the fish isn't hungry and is just half-mouthing the bait on the left side of his mouth and you're hook setting to the left, away from the fish, rather than to the right, toward the fish... You could be doing exactly the right hookset to pull it out of their mouth... Tail grabbing will do it too. It's usually smaller fish that do that to your bait. Big hungry fish will get that whole worm in their mouth with one good inhale.
  6. Hauls my 13.5 foot ocean kayak nicely. site to upload photos
  7. Fish the Moment is one of my new favorites. What a guy.
  8. The South Park Oh boy this one made me laugh good because I'm such a fan of South Park humor and with the whole Mike Long situation I bet the South Park team has the capability of making one FUNNY episode out of it. They never would though!
  9. Dude... Your profile pic. Tell me you didn't hook a ****ING FROG WITH A SWIMBAIT. STOP! NO WAY!
  10. "Buddy, you're swimming to the landing, I'm gonna keep fishing" is what I hope you said to him.
  11. I very much like to fish with friends but only if said friends are as hardcore as I am. Getting up at 2:45AM to eat breakfast, load up, drive an hour and be on the lake by 4:45AM to catch sunrise at 5:15. Then on top of that, eating lunch in the truck, hopping lakes, and staying on that lake until 7:00pm and be home by 9:00 or so. Luckily for me I finally found someone who is that dedicated and as go-hard if not MORE than I am which is crazy to imagine. We think a lot alike and fish a lot alike and when we stick a pig it's nice to be able to stick a pig with good company. I cannot and will not tolerate fishing with someone who wants to go out for a couple hours and go home. If he calls me up again I'm gonna tell him I'm sick and just won't show him the pictures of the fish I caught that day.
  12. I'm in your neck of the woods. Minnesota. Haven't struggled to find bass yet this year (fish once to twice a week, always on a different body of water ((LAND OF 10,000 LAKES AND I INTEND TO FISH THEM ALL)) and haven't struggled too much to find fish, or quality fish for that matter. Been doing pretty good and keying into what they're wanting as of late. The key has been 5 foot or less in the shade. They don't seem to have any interest in moving into the main lake yet. Degrees here are still mostly 72 or less in all of these lakes and been finding them shallower still. Try it out. Texas rig worked with a craw (color depending on clarity) has been working really well.
  13. Fish are hardy. I think if you cut the line and left the hook in their gut.. More times than not, they'd survive it without too much issue. Maybe even at a higher rate than if the fisherman tugged on it and finaggled the hook out of their gut. Might be more harming than just letting the hook alone in their gut. If they were so sensitive that they died from gut hooking you'd be seeing a lot more fish belly up on the surface. I've pulled a few hooks out of fish's anuses before. Just 2 weeks ago I did that, actually. He was a healthy young bass too. Not sure where I stand on this one.
  14. Oh that's a shame. My little pompous douchenozzle 3 series BMW sturdily supports my 13.5 foot 95 pound ocean kayak! Lucky me I guess. Kayaking is great. If you don't have many spots to fish from the bank at your new location you should do everything you can do figure out a kayak. You won't regret it! I used to have a boat and sold it when I moved to Florida. Got a kayak. So simple, easy, and fun!
  15. Where there's a will there's a way
  16. I don't mean to remind you of lost gear but I'm a big Daiwa fanboy and haven't bought any new gear in something like 3 years. Wanting to know how you felt about your SV and if you'd buy it again. The SV was released a couple years ago and I've always wanted to try one. I have the original Tatula, the CT, and the Type R (also the Lexa). Love them all.
  17. I've got a rack on my E90 twin turbskies BMW so what's your excuse!? Get a yak. They're awesome...
  18. Wellllll it's been a long time coming... I finally got a yak. She's not a beauty contest winner but floats and is large enough and has enough features to make me happy. Since I sold my boat and moved to Fort Myers, Florida, I've been dying to get off the shore. So the day is finally here where I can get ON the water... Some tips on where to go is what I'm looking for. I'm so new to this area and also new to Yak fishing so I'm in need of all the help I can get. I don't want your HOT SPOT but I would greatly appreciate tips on where to go for Largies or saltwater as well. I do not like bottom fishing. I prefer to fish on-the-move and not sit still. If I'm in salt water I like to use live shrimp and actively target (structure) cast them. I prefer, however, to go for largies. Thanks for any useful information!
  19. Just finished putting my rod tube on the ol' green Burban! Stoked about it! This thing fits all 6 of my go-to setups which consists of 5 baitcasters and 1 spinning reel. Longest rod is 7'11". It could probably fit more. It wasn't a snug fit at all. if any of you are thinking about doing this, it costs about: 75 dollars - Schedule 40 10 foot by 6 inch pipe (hardware store) 45 dollars - Conduit Carrier 6 inch end caps (Amazon) 30 dollars - Spray paint (took 2 and a half cans! And I'm still not happy with the result! If I could go back I'd probably use a brush or roller.) 10 dollars - lock 5 dollars - Sand paper 4 bucks for the 2x6 board because I needed more clearance on the STOCK suburban roof rack. Didn't even need a 500 dollar rack to do this project! 200 dollars a week - for the therapy I'll need from using my wife as a helper in mounting it (all in jokes! My wife was actually super helpful and we got it mounted in about 20 minutes)! Most guys cut the pipe down to 8 foot from what I've seen but I left it at 10 feet because I've got the suburban not a pickup. Love my suburban!! I highly suggest doing it if one of you have been on the fence about getting into it or not.
  20. I'm on my phone and at work so I'll keep this as short and sweet as possible lol. All my gear is regular bass fishing attire. Corrosion resistant bearings is all I'm bolstering. Nothing too fancy. My question is about the canals. Primarily the Cape Coral canals if any of you are familiar with them. Are they salty? Should I feel uncomfortable using my gear in those canals? And if you use your stuff in salt, how do you clean it off when you're done, and how long has it lasted for you using this method?
  21. Definitely. Fiberglass has it's drawbacks but... I believe it's better than aluminum overall. I hate having to constantly be on the motor, and even in a fiberglass boat you still run into days where the battery runs dead in two hours. I'd hate to be in an aluminum rig on those days.
  22. Nice. Thanks for the help, even though it came off as condescending. "Read the pins read the rules read the pins read the rules." If I had to read all the pins in every subsection of every forum I post on, I'd have to quit my job. That being said, I DID use the search function, and came up short. I should be credited with that, at least.
  23. This isn't exactly a "bug report" but wasn't sure what else to call it. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem or what the deal is. I use Windows 10. Chrome web browser. 1920x1080 monitor. Standard stuff. The BassResource.com logo drops down over my profile dropdown menu and I can't click it. Really annoying! Any idea?
  24. If you're into the older cylindrical style reels, then the Daiwa Ryoga Shrapnel is another Daiwa option that's more affordable and comparable to the Shimano Calcutta Conquest. Not as many options though as far as retrieve and gear ratios.
  25. Daiwa SS SV 103 Always wanted that reel. But now with the Tatula SV coming out I'll likely never get the SS SV.
