  1. d**n, that's a sweet setup!
  2. I agree with what everyone else has said. Shouldn't be an issue of the gear ratio
  3. I used one similar to Felix for 2 trips to the lake then I bought a roof rack made by Rola for my Honda civic and I am much happier. When the kayak was on the roof and strapped down it would make a flat spot on the roof and would still move a little bit once I got over 40 mph. The roof rack was about $225 and I feel very confident with the yak on it and would never go back. My suggestion would be to protect your car and the yak and spend another $150 to get a roof rack and make it more secure.
  4. I bought a Werner Shuna high angle and I love it. It really does make a difference to have a lighter paddle!!
  5. That's how I look at it every time it's a rough day. The weather yesterday was beautiful and I got in some good paddling. Go Dawgs!!
  6. I have 2 that I just bought and I have to say I love them both. I bought a SPeed Sppol and tourney pro. If you can swing it the tourney pro is great but I still really like the speed spool for the money especially since there is now a $20 rebate.
  7. I would love if someone posted about one of my secret spots because that would mean that I am catching fish haha. In all seriousness, it doesn't bother me too much. Someone knew about that spot before me and someone will find it when I am gone. All of the places I fish are pretty heavily pressured so I don't have much experience finding a secret spot to protect.
  8. I think if someone decides to share their spot it's up to them. If someone is ok with people knowing a "secret spot" then they can share if not they don't have to.
  9. Powell endurance 714 or 723. I bought the 714 to use on my yak and I really like it. Handled a 1/8 oz weight and 4" senko really well today.
  10. Got on the lake today in my kayak around 7:30. I fished for about 45 minutes then got back into a cove and decided to switch to something finesse since I hadn't had a bite yet. I was about to leave the cove but decide to toss a 4" senko a few times. As I was about half way through the retrieve I got a bite and set the hook on a nice 19" 3lber. And that was then end of my catching for the day haha. I fished for another 5 hours and didn't get another bite. It was a nice day on the water though.
  11. The lake is pretty clear, most days 5-7' visibility. It is a man made lake and from what I can tell most of the lake is dirt bottom, at least in the shallows
  12. I use Yo-Zuri 12# a lot and have not had any issues
  13. OK are nice kayaks and they are a reputable company. My best advice before you buy is if at all possible test them personally. Even if you have to drive a couple hours to do it, its better to spend a day testing kayaks and finding one you really like instead of losing a few hundred dollars when you sell the one you hate. That being said, I went with a Jackson Cuda over a Wilderness 115x and I am very happy with my purchase. One big difference that I noticed between the OK and Jackson/Wildy was the seat. Jackson has one of the best seats on the market IMO and is adjustable to the high and low position on my boat and Wildy has a comfortable seat and can be mounted in only the high or low position (which you have to choose at the time of purchase and can't be changed) but is still a very comfortable seat. Good luck!
  14. I fish a 535 acre lake from my kayak. I carry a 7'6" Powell Diesel MHXF 5 power with 50 lb braid & Lews SS 6.4:1, Powell Endurance 7'1" HXF 4 power with 50 lb braid & Lews TPSS 7.1:1, BPS carbonlite 6'6" MF with a 6.4:1 BPS PQ, and a *** Black 7' MF Spinning. The lake does not have heavy weed growth but does have some downed trees (intentionally by DNR) and structure added to the lake for habitat. I am not looking for specific name brands but more a suggestion such as *** = shakey head, Endurance = t-rigged creature bait, Diesel = Frog, BPS = Shallow crankbait. I post this because I have been getting skunked lately. I have thrown some spinnerbaits and crankbaits but mostly plastics and jigs. Water temp is in the mid 60's with air temp in the 70's. Most days I have been going out have been 2 or 3 days after a front and the skies have been mainly clear. All of the fish I have caught this year have been on plastics (most likely becaue that is what I mainly throw). I am just looking for some ideas to help in addition to reading a bunch and fishing everywhere I can think of on the lake. Below is a link to a DNR map with the structure that they have added http://fishandboat.com/water/habitat/mgmt_plans/lake/marsh_creek.pdf Lake is 60' at its deepest. Thanks in advance!
  15. As others have said, thank you for your service, it is greatly appreciated! The bass will be waiting for when when you get back. Stay safe and god bless!
  16. Thanks, depth lines are in 10' increments deepest part of the lake is 60'. I do see some fish on beds and some bigger bass cruising the shallows.
  17. I am getting skunked lately at my local lake. I purchased a kayak this year so I am on the lake for the first instead of the banks. The lake is pretty heavily pressured from boaters, kayak ears and shore fisherman alike and there is recreational boat traffic. However, it is an electric only lake. I have been out most days between 10-4 but also early in the am. Water temps are in the mid to high 60's and air temps are in the 70's. There are still some bass that are coming up to spawn but most seem to be done. I do not have a fish finder on my yak but I do have a topo map and map from the state showing the structure they have added. That being said, I am not great at locating all the structure and drop offs since I don't have GPS. There are also lots of downed trees along the shores. I have been throwing a little bit of everything including plastics, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs and jerk baits and I have not been getting bit much. I would like some input on what I could do to improve my success. Thanks in advance for the help!
  18. Sounds like the 743 is going to be a better bet for what you are going to do with it. Just my $.02
  19. Powell added to that list also
  20. I bought on 5/24 and I am scheduled for delivery on 6/3.
  21. Thanks guys. These were the first rods that I have ever noticed it on. Took them both out today and they fished great.
