Went out today on a small local lake...probably 15 to 20 people and three boats in water. All trout fishing. Best bass spots taken. People looked at me funny when I said I was bass fishing. Probably won't go back until May when trout stocking insanity dies down.

I have xr50 in chartreuse wounded bream and it looks KILLER. Haven't had a chance to try it yet. I think they are discontinued.

They have trade offs. Xtra fast let's set hook better...but a fast or mod fast gives you flex so you don't straighten the hook. Use thick flipping hooks and go with the x fast imo.

I have...not particularly weedless and it's fragile. Takes practice to work it right and is a big profile bait which gives me little confidence

7 foot to 7 foot 6 (depends on your height and fishing platform and preference) medium heavy fast action with exposed blank reel seat.

I love revenge swim jigs. Will buy their spinner baits in a couple weeks.

Give him cheapo stuff. It teaches him that fishing is mental skill not how pretty your rod is. In the future if he likes fishing it will motivate him to earn money to buy better.

Really no different from soft plastics. blacks browns greens fishing shallow you could try craw reds or green oranges for gills on beds

Are gills baitfish? I'm sure bass prefer minnows over dealing with claws and shells

cool. I like swim senkos but they are expensive so I really want to give shock wave a try

medium heavy is fine...probably should be a 7 foot not 6'6" but not a big deal.
