  1. The weather has been nice here for February and Iv'e been out hunting down the big mamas as much as I can. No luck on any hawgs recently but hooked up with a big pickerel over 5lbs. Yesterday in the same spot something big blew up on my crank and chewed me off. Probably the same fish although it's loaded with them. Water temps are higher than I ever remember for this time of year.
  2. Good job. I was throwing a frog for a few minutes at some local ponds hoping to get a desperate hit. By Friday the water might be warm enough to get some attention.
  3. Can't go wrong with these. Those will get it done everywhere. What model case is that?
  4. Sometimes they aren't too picky about color and if it resembles bait where they live.
  5. Awesome trip and catches! That lake is bigger than I originally thought. Definitely on the list to go to.
  6. You're welcome. He will recommend live bait for a better shot at catching a possible 10+ lber.
  7. Call Jamie at 407-288-9670. He can put you on some big bass on Lake Toho. Iv'e went with him numerous times. If he is booked he has a few guys that work with him you could go with.
  8. If you're looking for a guide for Havusa check out Shaun Bailey's Guide Service.
  9. They are hitting it around 6 inches below the surface I would guess. There were a few bass and pickerel that smacked at it with a few connecting while it was in wake mode.
  10. The minus 1 is killer at alot of ponds around here. Water depth is 2-4ft where they are hitting. There are bluegill, yellow perch, crappie and pickerel in this pond.
  11. The ponds locally were frozen for a few days but was too busy to drop a line when they opened until today. Ironically it was sleeting during my outing. Water temp was 40-41 and they were pretty fiesty hitting the crank. Glad to see a decent amount of 50 degree temps coming this week.
  12. You aren't kidding. Alot of the small neighborhood ponds hold some giants. This girl was over 10.
  13. If you can fit it in do a Lake Toho fishing day. Very possible to get a new PB from there. Let me know if you need more info on it.
  14. Great suggestion. Let me know if he's booked. I know several other guides that I have caught 10's with.
  15. Thanks. Some of the smaller ponds had ice recently. A warming trend is coming with temps in the mid 50's later this week.
  16. I gave it a shot today but after 20 minutes even with the gloves I had my hands lost function. Snowing, windy and colder today.
  17. I couldn't let a little cold and snow stop from searching for those giant January bass that have been caught. They were hitting like it was spring time. Didn't get a water temp but would say 38-40 maybe colder. Had to keep breaking ice chunks off the guides. This is north of where I have been fishing recently. Caught 6 bass 1 pickerel and lost a few . Big pickerel bit my swimbaits tail off after catching a couple bass on it. Another dose of snow expected tomorrow.
  18. Nice hawg! That one would qualify for the trophy catch program.
  19. Thanks. It's been nice to still have open water and catch em on cranks in January. They have been hanging off the points recently.
  20. Wednesday was a decent day weather wise considering the time. Water was 50 degrees which will take a drop with the cold snap coming through. The wind made it tough but managed 4 bass between 1.5-4lbs.
  21. Biggest LM last year on artificial 7lbs on a Stanley Top Toad ( Is it spring time yet??) Biggest SMB 5.5 on a swimbait.
  22. With a warmer than normal Jan. 1st I headed out to try to catch some of my first bass of the year. Water temp was 46-47. Air temp got up to around 54. Caught 9 bass between 3-4 lbs on a chrome/blue lipless. Gotta get out there before this weather takes a dip.
  23. Thanks everyone. I'm glad to still be throwing cranks this late in the year.
  24. I took a ride to one of the lakes Iv'e been fishing recently to see if they wanted to chase some cranks. Water temp was 46 and cloudy skies. Like last time there were a few big bass following the bait up to the boat then turning off. Fished in just a couple key areas and caught three bass between 4.75-6lbs. The biggest one had a large dose of the black splotches.
  25. Thanks guys. Yes it was a Cotton Cordell Super Spot. Was using a blue/chrome color when the big girls were there and gone but that one ended up in a tree.
