  1. I'll try this when I get home. Hopefully it works because the only thing I use this rod for right now really is flipping cover and throwing jigs...
  2. the reel only says nitrous on it, and even with the magnet and spool do i feel any grap or pull on the two, idk it was for about 75 dollars at dicks. I'm going to dicks in the morning to pick up a new tatula, i just dont see any diiference witht he reel drag set at ten or zero when casting. I guess I got what i paid for.
  3. So in other words I was right with the spool being aluminum and the braking system using magnets that this won't work? Good to know...
  4. I picked up a quantum reel and tore it apart to clean it, noticed the magnet on didn't effect the spool in the slightest of manner... Wouldn't the spool have to be magnetic for the braking system to work?
  5. Awesome and yeah I am thinking about a revo and might shop for a used rod thanks for the help!
  6. I'm looking to pick up a new bait caster, I currently have a quantum nitrous and want something nicer. The magnetic drag doesn't seem to really work, spool is aluminum? Anyways I've gotten decent at thumbing it and learning so I want to upgrade, I have 100-150 limit and wanted to know if you guys have any suggestions, I'll be throwing frogs, jigs, and cranks with this rod. I have a diawa spinning rod / reel that I use for finesse and another spinning reel that is my back up to my baitcaster.
  7. I don't about the killing of the perch. Sounds like with such a heavy perch and sunfish population the bass population should be pretty good, try upsizing the baits and using perch and bluegill pattern cranks and lipless cranks. I watched where dean Rojas fished a frog resembling the patterns of a bluegill and almost fished it like a dieng bluegill and had gear success. But the pickerel problem, try throwing plastics and fishing the bottom, jigs, senkos, Carolina rigs, etc. pike love moving baits and shiny vibrating sensory grabbing such as shiny lipless and spinners.
  8. Water temp by me is 54-58 and I'm having good luck with lipless cranks and using my scatter rap bouncing off cover something about the deflection and the sudden change in direction is working wonders right now. Think the bait fish moved up and they are staging a bit. I shore fish too. Gin clear water.
  9. 15# mono for my baitcasting reel, tried 20lbs braid when I first started learning..., horrible mistake lol
  10. Can't wait go get on Tuesday.
  11. Zara puppy! Love mine and the action is fun to fish.
  12. The scatter rap will randomly shoot to one side here and there to look like a fleeing baitfish. That's the point. Watch the videos, also you might have to try to turn the ring that's connected to the bill to "tune" the bait. I've had good luck with the scatter shad one. 3-4 feet fishing along the shore
  13. Three 3600 boxes in a back pack with essentials and took some old 550 cord and made some holders for rods on the sides.
  14. I got ahold of a Facebook group and found some members thanks man!
  15. We have 500 dollar john boats on craigslist all the time with electric motors. I went with a modded 15 foot john boat for 750 dollars and it came with a 9.9 how merc and 45# trolling motor. Also had basic electronics. Had a little home built trailer and loved, I live in river and big lake country and most the ponds or small lakes have a 10hp limit for me. So I stick with the boat. If I was fishing primarily ponds, and short distances on rivers or small lakes, I'd go with a kayak.
  16. Glad there hitting boughton, might have to swing up there this week. Maybe Thursday
  17. . Where did you catch these guys at?
  18. Went bass fishing on Saturday.... Caught 3 pike and a perch.... And the pike were caught on jerk bait and the perch on a small crank.... Had one nice lmb get off the hook trying to land him :/ I'm going out Thursday then got the Rochester bassmasters meeting that night. Ugh no luck here lol
  19. Hoping to pick up my boat this next week, nice 17.5 tracker. Going to try Canandaigua as soon as I can. Caught a nice smallmouth off the pier in Canandaigua today before work on a jerk bait after 2 hours of dragging jigs, and lipless cranks. Windy and overcast.
  20. Definitely the guide I heard it hang and snap. Oh well I like the idea of putting a drop of superglue on the leader. I might just retire that pole and pick up a new one cause I don't like how the last two guides are aluminum and no coating... Just looks like a catch point for the knot.
  21. It's a diawa spinning medium was throwing a light spinner and the last two guides are aluminum, it didn't break the guide, broke the knot. Lol just bought the lure from bps. I was using a double uni.
  22. So I'm fishing gin clear water and think that a leader might be needed so I was using one about 3 feet long and I accidentally reeled in to far and casted and it got hung up on my guide and snapped the knot a double uni is my leader to long or can you use a small swivel? Not to familiar fishing clear water
  23. was trying to view the rochester bassmasters webpage, the site is down so i cant view monthly events and view the rules and regs. also if many RBM memebers view this, ill be trying to make the meeting tonight at 730, wont be there till 8 though.
  24. The water temp is 36-38 and clear, little patches of ice. Fishing from shore. Are the fish still holding deep? I saw a couple sunning themselves that I spooked creeping to the shore. Tried jigs and lipless cranks... No avail. Any suggestions?
  25. Went fishing on Canandaigua lake, caught a 3lbs large mouth and 30" pike. Fished a black and blue jig with craw trailer, and a chartuese and shad colored rapala minnow for the pike. Still some ice on the main lake, suprised I caught anything. Raining and windy air temp 46 water temp 34-36. Only fished for around 3 hours. Good day I think. Fished off the city pier around floating docks and pylons.
