  1. I can't comment on that, but this costs less than half that amount and I use it to get the boat and trailer into my storage space.
  2. If I was in your shoes, I'd say, " It's your boat, and you're the Captain...I'd appreciate it if you could let me know if I'm doing something wrong" . When someone is in my boat and they don;t listen to my advice (rules), they don't get asked back. Other than that, sounds like a great opportunity !
  3. I did the same thing I bought a left hand retrieve baitcaster for my first baitcaster
  4. Pulled up to launch my boat, saw a SUV and trailer almost completely submerged. I was politely told by the Police Officer the ramp is closed today. **edit*** I deleted the photos because I felt some bad karma coming on.
  5. I made a rule for myself of giving it 1 hour before switchin lure.
  6. Few more and you can have a fish stick dinner !
  7. Very nice boats here. I can't compare mine to most, but it fills it's purpose of getting my Dad out on the water for fishing on the weekends. I bought it in June and so far this summer had a great time. It's a Tracker 1436 from Bass Pro Shops. Electric setup, no gas motors around here. Thanks. And for when I feel like going small & solo
  8. I used the lipless crank version this Sunday and caught 2 LM bass and a couple of Crappies. The bass were small though less than 2 pounds each. My last 2 weekend fishing trips I didn't catch anything using other lures. (I will admit, I bought it because I thought it looked cool)
  9. My Dad caught his personal best Largemouth this Sunday. He was slow reeling a nightcrawler drop shot.
  10. Lure making companies would have you believe live bait doesn't work. Don't believe the hype.
  11. Thanks for the info ! I'm going to leave one out overnight and see what pops in.
  12. Poor summer for me here in central N.J. I've been fishing seriously for the past 3 summers and I just can't seem to get the combination of lure/location/method lined up correctly this year. I'm looking forward to the fall though, because I caught all my personal best's during that time of year.
  13. Hello all, My Dad always wanted to try out one of those Minnow Traps so I ordered one today. I was wondering if anyone here uses them, and if I need to have it in the water overnight ? Can you suspend it from a boat when fishing ? Thanks for any info. PS I put it in the "other fish species" catagory because it didn't seem to fit in any other forum.
  14. The only other forum I'd like is one dedicated to personal best pictures.
  15. Be careful with your eyes if you cut the barb off with cutters. The tips can go flying off at near light speed.
  16. **Follow up** I just wanted to thank everyone for the great advice. I'm now comfortable launching and retrieving the boat solo. The best advice for me was to take my time and not rush things. My only mishap so far was I left the trolling motor down once and scratched the metal fin on the bottom. Had a laugh about it and double check now. Thanks again !
  17. I use the bed extender for my canoe and kayak. Works great, no heavy lifting over your head and takes about 10 seconds to load up the boat/kayak. ( make sure you buy a locking hitch pin so no one steals it when you're on the water)
  18. I use this one. Works great, I use it to move my boat/trailer into my storage thing. Works better for me on gravel than the hard plastic wheel on the trailer jack. You can rotate to trailer in a circle. edit... I agree with JFrancho. If it is a single axle trailer I believe you will not have a problem making a 180 degree rotation using the trailer dolly.
  19. Never tried it but sure sounds like fun being able to scoot from spot to spot.
  20. I agree with this. I would also like to add my 2 cents. Don't look down on people who legally fish using a Spincasting reel.
  21. I have a pivoting seat in the middle, and just turn sideways a little when I work the rear mounted trolling motor. I can't say what I would do if I used a gas outboard though because I don't have one sorry.
  22. I use the mini paddle from Bass Pro shops. There great for ma king ltitle manouvers wit out ha Ving to usee 2 hands. . http://m.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Mini-Paddle-with-Logo/product/1303290621382/
  23. I often wonder about the number in lakes I fish, especially when I don't get a single bite all day .
  24. Hello, I bought a 14 foot jon boat and trailer, and this was the first time I ever towed anything. So I have practiced backing up in an empty parking lot this weekend and feel I have the basics down, especially once I read that it's better to keep your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel. So the main point of this thread... Can I expect the trailer to act differently when I am reversing downhill the boat ramp ? Thank you for any input. **edit** The boat ramp I'll be using the first time is pretty wide and I'll be able to straighten out the truck and trailer before I reverse
  25. Thanks everyone, had an uneventful 137 mile ride home. The guys at BPS were great and walked me through everything, me being new to anything larger than a canoe ! Guess I'll have to upgrade my 30lb trolling motor now.
