  1. There are so many sites with reviews that you can really get a good "feel" for the rod before you buy it. I bought a few rods unseen, but before I do I check the return policy. Worst case scenario, if you hate the rod, turn around and sell it to someone else!
  2. My dad bought the Black Max combo a few months back at walmart. The rod was different then. They sold the black max on an abu garcia vengeance 6'9 rod MHF. It's a nice set-up. He wound up buying another one. Check the specs of the rod compared to the Vengeance. If the rod seems heavy or lunky, buy the black max alone, its about $40 from walmart. (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Abu-Garcia-Black-Max-Low-Profile-Baitcast-Reel/20646663) I actually wound up buying a Vengeance M/MF for cranking and put a Black Max on it. It's a smooth reel and casts a mile. I'd highly recommend the reel. But again, I'd look at the specs of the rod and go check it out in the store. - Dale
  3. Your guess is as good as ours...or the meteoroligists!
  4. The Abu Garcia "Max" line is great. Black Max, Silver Max and Pro Max. You can get the Black for $40, Sivler for $50 and Pro for $60 (I know, this is over the $50 mark) but they are all great reels.
  5. I took a look at it on google maps. My suggestions would be to hit the rip rap on the eastern shore. Looks like you can get a good shot at it from either side. Also, the creek mouth on the western shore comes out to a point on the lake. From the arial views it looks like there is a ledge/drop off if you cast north while standing on the point. Edit: disregard since you found the PDF file - Dale
  6. I would target the shore closest to Mary Pond Road. Also the deeper pock on the northeast side as well as the pocket on the southeast side. Target those drops and you should do well. Not sure what the bite has been like where you are, but try a few different presentations. Jig would be a nice search bait to see what you have on the bottom. Maybe a crank? Good luck!
  7. Nice work dude! All of my luck has been along banks. But I'm throwing the same thing you have been. Deep cranks or squarebills depending on the bank. I had some decent luck on topwaters early in the AM. I've hit the flat on the southeast shore of lower sciver with topwaters and shallow cranks. That's done pretty well. Deep cranks on the northern shore of upper sciver between the container and the barge. The northern side of the eastern most island has done well too.
  8. I contacted Strike King via e-mail today. They got back to me within 15 minutes and are sending me replacements. I'll keep you all posted in case you run into a similar issue. Thanks for the tips everyone. I've heard good things about Spros. I'll probably look into some of those. -Dale
  9. Looks like you've got all depths covered. Fishing a jig while the coangler is fishing a cranking type bait (spinner bait, crank bait, swim bait) can be a bit annoying since you'd most likely be dragging the jig or fishing it slowly. It's absolutely doable, but it will take some practice! - Dale
  10. I just looked on their site. All I see is a phone number so I'll give them a call and see what happens from there. Thanks for the help guys! I'll let you know how it turns out.
  11. So I have never fished a squarebill until recently. I love the action and I love that I can bounce them around rocks and logs. Over the weekend I tied on a brand new KVD 1.5. I casted it out and felt the action of the lure. Then, nothing. No wiggle, no wobble, no dive. Nothing. I was fishing in patches of weeds, so I reeled it in thinking there were weeds on the hooks, but instead I found that the bill broke off... Has anyone had this issue? Do you think there is any way I can fix it or modify it into something else? It just sucks that I spend $6 on a lure and then 2-3 casts into fishing it, it just breaks.
  12. Caught 4 early on topwaters. Howd you do Gman?
  13. All over. I started in upper fishing a few drops. Worked my way down to lower. Was out therr from 7 til about noon. Ill be out again tomorrow morning most likely.
  14. Well. The weather this morning sucked haha. 53, rainy and windy. Caught 2 nice ones. 1 about 3.5 pounds and the other about 2.5 Both came on deep cranks in about 15 ft of water. How'd it go for you Gerod?
  15. Good luck with it! Hopefully you fill that boat with lots of fish and great memories!
  16. I don't have any experience with it yet, but I've read that a lot of people use small zip ties instead of rubber collars.
  17. Anyone been to the lakes this week? Im taking a few guys out this weekend. Curious to see what is happening up there right now with the rain and cool nights.
  18. I picked up a 7ft MHF Berkley Lightning Shock at my local Walmart for $30. I threw an Abu Garcia Silver Max on it and I use it for flipping. I've heard good and bad about the rods, but I haven't had any issues. It's not the lightest on the market, or the most sensitive, but for $30 you can't beat it IMO. -Dale
  19. It is apparently a "LMB fishery" but I've caught more smallies there than anything. There are a lot of deep ledges and steep drop offs. The average depth is 42 feet, deepest point is 126 feet.
  20. I've never had a bad day at Beltzville. The thing that sucks is its a small lake. If you are there on a busy day expect to get beat around. It is like a big bath tub when it comes to wakes. This time of year it is probably not so bad, but in the summer it is loaded with jetskis and water skiers on weekends. I've never fished the flats, but I've heard good things. I fished Raystown once back around 2000 for Stripers and didn't catch anything but a cold. I'd love to hit there again though. Here are a few of the other lakes I've had my eye on, but never fished. They are all a good drive (3+ hours): Foster Joseph Sayers Lake - Bald Eagle State Park Cowanesque Lake - Tioga County Tioga-Hammond Lake - Tioga County Lake Wallenpaupack
  21. I've been trying to find some. The only one that I know that is within reasonable driving distance is Beltzville. Probably about an hour and 45 from you.
  22. Nice work! I wish my company sponsored touneys! Got pics of the fish?
  23. I went out on Manor yesterday in the rain. It was a WET day. Did pretty well though. I beat around with a squarebill for a few hours. Caught 2 bass, a pike and a catfish. The only fish worthy of a picture was this guy...
