Jerkbait Recommendation
I haven't fished jerkbaits in the past but I would like to this coming season. That being said, I'm not looking to make a massive investment into them, I would rather buy a handful, see if I can get them to work for me and then go from there. So, if you had to reduced your jerkbait assortment down to 6, which weighs make the cut? Would you carry 6 of the same make, just in different sizes and colours, or would you carry a couple from different manufacturers? I'll be targeting mostly smallies in clear, natural Canadian lakes. Thanks in advance!

School Me On Extra Fast Taper
Extra fast means that the rod flexes very little before it gets into the backbone of the rod. The tip will tend to feel overly stiff since very little of it is flexing before getting into the stiffer part of the rod. That being said, I have a drop shot rod with a titanium tip section that has a very soft tip but gets into the backbone of the rod very quickly. I'm not sure what you might use that rod for though...

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
I recently picked up a nice used Saros 3000F and a new Symetre 2500FL. Then I got wind of a local rod manufacturer going out of business and decided to take advantage of the situation. I picked up a drop shot spinning rod, 5 7' medium spinning rods, a 6'6" light spinning rod for inline spinners, and another 6'6" medium spinning rod. I expanded and replaced all of my cheaper rods with these. I also picked up a couple of casting rods, a 6'10" medium for jigs (which fishes like a MH I'm told) and a 6'6" medium for jerkbaits. My wife asked me what we were going to do with all those rods and I told her, "go fishing more!" She said, ok :-) I also picked up a few shaky heads (spot removers and owner stand ups). This has been such an expensive winter so far and I still have 2 reels that I am on the hunt for. Realistically though, I might not even need to purchase anything until mid summer unless something goes catastrophically wrong with some of the new equipment. But I do recall seeing bulk packs of senkos on that auction site, plus I just bought a rod for jerkbaits and I don't have many of those... Oh please, let there be a bunch of jerkbaits on sale when BPS has their sale in February!

Pricing Out The Average Angler?
Get in where you fit in is the more relevant statement so far! I absolutely 100% agree with it and subscribe to it wholeheartedly, especially when it comes to hobby spending. I'm not making an investment into my profession so buying the top end stuff as soon as it comes out is only going to satisfy my want for cool stuff and empty my wallet at a faster rate. I have purchased very few rods or reels brand new unless they were deeply discounted. I purchased 75% of my rod and reel combos used and if you're patient and willing to do a little scouring, great deals abound. However, if you're caught up keeping up with the Jones', your wallet is going to be in trouble. If you feel you have to spend to keep up, it might be time to reassess what you're trying to accomplish by going fishing...

Weird Hooks
Good to see that one-liner comedy is alive and well Try resizing the picture in paint, it's probably just too large.

Downsize Spinning Reel For Braid ?
I'd say you are. That's been my theory and it seems to work, although I don't have any emperical evidence to support my beliefs :-D

Second Life Rod
I'd try some simple green, shouldn't hurt the finish.

Accidental Catches
Fishinig for bass in Halifax with a crank bait and I caught a toothy little chain pickerel. I'm lucky I had my long needle nose pliers with me or I would have had to cut the line. They're teeth are at least in the sticky sharp range, if not sharper!

Mono Or Fluorocarbon
If you go with the Berkley 100%, get the XL version for spinning reels. It's a lot less springy than their other 100% FC.

Power Pro Super 8 Slick
It sure does stay smooth. I used 15# all last season on all of my spinning reels with a fluoro or mono leader.

Spinning Reel With Fc Problems...
I spooled some 8# Berkley Xl fluorocarbon on a spinning reel today and filled it within 1/16" of the lip and it didn't seem to be coiling. Might be worth a try.

Christmas Loot!
Here's the results of my trip to BPS after my gift cards :-D I *should* be taken care of for the upcoming fishing season but I'm sure I'll find some other way to convince my wife that there are a few other ways to catch us more bass ;-) I'm in the same boat. My father in law and I fish together every chance we get. He's a Canadian Maritimer so fishing comes to him as second nature. There are a couple of nice little trout ponds near his house, not to mention Bras D'Or Lake which isn't that far away either.

Best Fluorocarbon For The Money?
I had a chance to get my hands on the new Berkley XL Fluorocarbon and it's surprisingly limp. Mind you, this was just in a store and I was only giving the tag end sticking out of the packaging the flick test... 6#, 8# and 10# all felt closer to mono than FC. It's on my short list of lines to try.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
I would consider being set up this early in the bait money's active season a very dangerous and potentially costly scenario! I'm always planning on being set up.... until I see that crankbait lot for sale in the flea market, then all bets are off and before I know it, that stinking monkey snakes me again!

Guess This Smallie's Weight.....
That could be the next contest! I'm going to say that tube is a good guess but I'm going with a drop shot.

Looking For Reel Info - Team Daiwa Pro 100Hl
I found this reel for sale but I'm having a hard time finding any information on it. Mainly I'm wondering if it would be a good candidate to throw small to medium sized crankbaits with? Here's a link to it: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1038874737 Thanks in advance! Adam

Paying Extra For Quality Equipment
That's exactly why my frugality outlasts my patience, it would kill me to save up for something then have to sell it, especially if I were to take a loss on it. Used is the way to go for me. When I have a monthly 4 figure disposable income, then I'll be buying high end stuff brand new. Until then, it's used for me :-D

Paying Extra For Quality Equipment
I like to let others pay full retail for high end stuff, use it for a little while and then sell it to me for what I can afford to spend

Best Bait Casting Rod For $102.50
Whichever rod you get, be sure the muffler bearings are installed in the correct orientation from the factory and that the flux capacitor isn't cracked. The last thing to be sure of are the power bands, the chartreuse Moose ones are especially fragile...

Fc Leader Line And Knot
I use 15# Super 8 Slick on my spinning reels with a 15# FC leader (one of them has 20# Sufix with the same leader). My leader length is the length of the rod and I use an Alberto knot to join the two. The knot is a bit noisy going through the guides but it doesn't affect my casting distance. I use 40# braid with the same leader and knot on my baitcasters. Same deal, a little noisy going through the guides but it doesn't hurt my casting distance.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
My recent bait monkey binge was on a couple of second-hand reels, one a BPS Carbonlite and the other a Daiwa TD-X. I'm going to wait until the fishing exhibition shows that are coming up in February and March to see what other damage I can inflict on my wallet... Then there's also the trip to Japan that my wife is taking, I might place an order for her to bring back with me...
