I don't own a new spinning combo, but I've heard really good stuff about the St. Croix Mojo Bass rods and Shimano spinning reels. That's probably the route I'd go.

Somebody gave me an old Shimano spinning combo and another three boxes of finesse worms (that I'm still using) and got me started in fishing. I probably wouldn't be using worms right now if he hadn't introduced them to me.

Yup, that'll help. I suck at one-handed casting; two-handed ups my accuracy by 50%.

Here's a little trick I learned: "measure" the fish-length and girth- with some mono, cut it off, and measure the length at home. Voila! Problem solved.

I've seen one before, and they're not good. The owner of a private pond I've fished at has a solitary otter destroying his stocked fish. He's tried to trap it, but to no avail.
