How To Catch Bass In My Pond
I'm running into a similar difficulty with "my" ponds. One of my ponds is very shallow, and the fish have just absolutely shut off. I've tried everything, a jerkbait, spinnerbait, inline spinner, jig, ect. ect. and only caught one dink. On my other pond, my brother and I managed to catch 5 nice bass in two hours. All my luck so far (in both ponds) has been on jigs.

Consider This Situation...
Oh. But wait a minute.....you wouldn't have a hook for the guts. Okay, here's my answer: a Yum Money Frog (toughest soft plastic frog on the market) with a 2/0 EWG hook. You could catch bluegill with guts on the tip of it, although it would have to be a big bluegill to use the whole hook. I have done it, though.

Dream Combo
Baitcast: Strait from the set of Star Trek, my dream baitcast combo would be the Shimano Antares caster with the with some sort of a white custom rod (ridiculously expensive, of course.) For an actual production rod, the Daiwa Steez Compile is pretty cool. Price: $1200+ Spinning: Shimano Stella FI reel with a G. Loomis NRX rod. Price: 1300+

Consider This Situation...
You put a lot of thought into this! A 1/2 spinnerbait in chartreuse/white. Jig would be second choice. Although, if you're going the survival route, I'd get a frog. A snakehead would crush it. I could get a really nice meal from the snakehead, and then use it's organs to catch bluegill. (btw, you can catch gills on guts, I've done it). Once you have a small bluegill, you can hook it through the head and catch a bass. Once you have a bass, you turn to gators........

How Bass See Color
I'm not a fish scientist, but I have found one color of bait to be 10x more productive than other colors at certain times, so I'm a believer in colors.

Muddy Water
For lures, I tend to throw something with flash and/or vibration, such as a spinnerbait or a lipless. They "cut through" the murky waters a lot better than other, less visible lures.

Paying Extra For Quality Equipment
I'm on a budget, so I typically try to get quality stuff (on sale!). I recently bought a baitcasting combo; was going to get a Black Maxx combo, but decided to get something a lot more pricey. Glad I did.

It's Been Awhile.. Need Some Tips.
The only fish I've caught since cold fronts moved through have been on a jig. Try it! Interesting, I actually have not "finessed" it, but worked it fast enough to get a reaction strike. The fish I've caught have not been deep, hanging out in cover right by the shore.
