  1. When I mean small I mean 60 to 300 acres. The weeds are all over the bottom. A lot of milfoil some submerged and floating around the edges. Not many rocks are found. One here and there.
  2. I have have the same set up as you do. what i typically do whenever I get all my baitcasters in but the braking system on the highest setting. Slowly let off on braking after every cast until you get maximum distance with your casts.
  3. Ya, my buddy had an 8lber out of a pond about 2 acres.
  4. Anybody got any tips on small weedy lakes. I live up in New Hampshire and I want to hear how people fish these kinds of lakes, where fish are according to the season and the main forages they rely on.
  5. I've been going to Naticook a couple of times and I've been catching bass. I worked the edges of the growing lily pads with a jerk bait in 5 feet of water and I worked the top of a weedy ledge with he same bait. By the way it's just the start of post spawn. I tried deep didn't catch anything. The thing Im asking though is where are the big ones at? I've ice fished there and caught a couple 4 pounders. Some friends I know caught a 9lber out of there. If any body has any experience about this lake and how to catch the monsters in there. Tell me what you know. Please!
  6. Any body got any idea how to mount a minn kota edge trolling motor 42'' on a 12 foot v-hull?
  7. I'm not too sure.. its right off a highway, im assuming it public because there is a small launch and I haven't seen any private property signs.
  8. I have a friend who has been telling me about this pond off the 101 in amherst NH. If you not from around the pond is only a couple acres big. Its weedy with some rocks and logs. There are some big bass in it though. I fished it the other day, I can see the fish roaming around. I know that if you see the fish the fish see you. I fished the whole pond tried different things. I wondering if they are just not biting because thy are staging on the bank to breed or if I'm doing something wrong. The bass in there feed off bluegill and yellow perch. Let me know what you guys think!
  9. I got a trolling motor, thanks for the advise. I found a pro control product that converts a transom motor into a foot controlled motor so ill probably do that and just work against the bait.
  10. I've got myself a 12 foot jon boat. Great boat, great for small lakes and ponds. One of my favorite baits to through is the crank bait. I throw square bills, medium diving and deep diving. Here is the problem.. It's not the lure, its not the line, or the rod. It's the boat. So I cast the crank and I start retrieving. The boat spins into the direction I casted my bait to as I'm reeling it in. I understand the bait has resistance. I cast out to the left and right of my boat because I don't want to put a 6xd into my brothers back by casting strait behind. Does anyone have any ideas how i can address this problem and make crankin' so much easier. I need to fight the fish, not the boat.
  11. I would use mono, I try to avoid it as much as possible. I'm not sponsored and money is tight. I wish I could have a rod for every kind of bait. I use the rod also for pitching, jigs, and heavy texas rigs. The reason why I stay away from mono is the sensitivity, It's just a big pet peve of mine not being able to feel my bait and the structure.
  12. First I'm having a little trouble deciding what line I should put on my rod. So I have a 7' 9'' Abu Garcia Veritas Heavy Action. I use it for bigger baits such as a Huddleston swimbait. I'm contemplating to either put 15 lb fluorocarbon or braid. What do you think?
  13. Up here in New Hampshire during the winter the water freezes and us northerners go ice fishing. When I do go out %99 I chase after bass. I find some pieces of structure that go from shallow to deeper water. I would expect the bass to be hanging out in the deeper water where its warmer. When I do catch a bass I catch it in shallow water. I can't figure out why these bass are so shallow. Why are they shallow? What are they feeding on? By the way the lakes I fish are relatively small between the 100 acres to 1,000 acres range.
  14. I know there are many species of minnows. I have figured out what kinds of species of minnows thrive in the lakes in my state, New Hampshire. I assume the bass in these lakes feed primarily on these minnows. The most common minnow in the lake I fish is the creek chub. I cant seem to find behaviors on these minnows but I have read one thing saying they hang around the shoreline. There is a brook that does feed into the lake. Will this area where the brook meets the lake be a good spot to produce bass? Give me some feedback on bass that feed on minnows
  15. So I fish small lakes around 100 to 1000 acres in size. I know where I live its too cold and the lakes are too small to hold a shad population. I have figured out the bass are feeding on mainly bluegill and yellow perch. I have been looking around online trying to find articles on how to locate bluegill and yellow perch. i don't seem to find out what to look for on my charts and what kind of depths and structure to look for according to the seasons. I would super appreciate if I could get some feedback on how to locate these bluegills and perch all year round to improve my bass fishing knowledge.
  16. So I am in high school and I have a big passion for bass fishing. I am working on getting a job. i have been looking around online and I really want to get myself a used bass boat. I have found some Ranger Comanches for 3 grand and some tracker for the same price. I know it will take months of saving but I feel like it is worth it. Please give me honest feedback if it's a good idea or if I should just get myself a nice kayak.
  17. When I'm looking for a reel I always get a reel for a specific reason (mainly looking for gear ratio). Gear ratio plays an important role in what kind of baits you will be throwing; for example I use either a 7.3:1 or a 8.0:1 if I'm throwing a frog so I have speed behind the line to catch up with the fish coming strait at me when it takes my frog. Secondly I look for the number of bearings, I have had experience with this. I had a reel with only 5 bearings and after a year things got noisy. Go with 7 bearings and up, it won't disappoint. Lastly the cost. I'm not a millionaire so I find one between the $100 to $200 range. My favorite reel that has been super dependable for me is the Quantum Accurist PT series, never disappoints.
  18. Well I know the lakes I do fish have had a lot of 3 and 4 pounders, the biggest in the lake is 8 pounds. I do have a 12 foot john boat I use on this lake because it is only 270 acres and there is no boat launch because it is private, and on the boat I have a hummingbird 120; and I'm saving up for a triton. What I mainly use for bait is either a jig, Texas rig with either a crawdad or power worm depending on the season, lipless crank bait, and a square bill. These baits work the best in most of the lakes I have fished in this area.
  19. So up in Southern New Hampshire there are not many big lakes, also none of them contain shad or blue herring. I have fished a long time on these small lakes, I could just never figure them out or the bass in them. For example, in the summer I find myself always going shallow, but I'm only catching small bass. I read up on articles saying to go fish ledges and all, but there are no bass to find on the ledges; the lake only gets 30 feet deep. Also there is not much structure, it's just a big bowl of milfoil. I am constantly running around trying different things no matter what season is. I use bluegill pattern baits like cranks, jigs, plastics, and etc. because it's the main forage, but I can't ever find myself landing any fish over 3 pounds. What can I do to change my approach on these small lakes and catch some bigger fish no matter what season it is? Thanks, -Keiran
