I personally don't consider 25 acre's a pond. Its not thousands of acres like the one I fish but still pretty big.

They will also migrate in the big lakes. They may be out deep then move to main lake points and secondary points or road beds then in shallow and back out. It's almost like pattering deer. In ponds you just look for structure and you catch fish. Thousands of combinations it seems on lakes. In the back of bays, on chunk rock, around docks, on road beds, on ledges, on points, on creek channels.....

I grew up pond fishing but when I started fishing big water it was a different world. I fish Ky and Barkley and you may be right out in the middle of the vast lake fishing a road bed or ledge. It blew my mind that you would fish this far out. Of course you fish the banks as well but the time of year has a lot to do with it. Current also plays a big role here. It takes some time to eliminate unproductive water that all looks the same to an untrained eye. Get maps of the lake if you can. One point may look the same until you notice one has a creek channel right next to it. These things make a huge difference. The best thing to do it hook up with someone that is accustom to this type of fishing and let them show you the ropes. The learning curve will be much shorter if you do.

It may be just me but seems the tournament guys often beat the fish to death anyway. You watch them on TV ski them across the water then sling them in the boat and the may or may not catch it. Then the fish rides around and gets carried 10 miles to a different location the then tossed around some more then release many miles away from its original spot. Not so bad maybe unless it was on a bed. I know money is on the line but come on...slow down and stop being so spastic while bringing the fish in. I would love to see all pro tournaments go the to catch, weigh, and release that the MLB fishing uses. That way these nesting fish aren't forced to abandon their beds and less stressful on the fish. It will never fly though.

Lol...yeah , I understand there's upkeep and annual cost but more concerned about something hidden that's going to put me in the poor house.

He said his dad owned a boat shop and took great care of the boat. Not sure if me means a mechanical type shop or sales shop. Thanks for the advice Do people normally take a mechanic to the boat or take the boat to a mechanic?

So this guy has a 1993 Stratos 285 Pro XLR with a V6 Johnson Fast Strike 150 he motor. I can get it for 6000 and he says it's in immaculate condition and by the pictures it looks like new. I was offering 5000 but I don't think he will come down any more. He was wanting 7000. So is this boat and motor still worth that in great condition ? He said he could get a compression check if I come look at it. I'm not too savvy about boats so any advice would be helpful. I have kids in college so I'm pinching pennies paying for that. I just can't swing a more expensive boat and don't want to get burned by owning a money pit either.

What's your opinion on this. My buddy I fish with will not hardly go on an East wind. Says wind from the east ....fish bite the least. Do you see this as the case?

LOL...no he is just a guy I know. He said some years had issues but may have been resolved. Thats why I'm asking opinions here. I know there are always some to stay away from and just wanted to educate myself of the ones that are known to be more trouble.

I guess I should have said I will be looking in the 2002 to 2008 years mostly. Ranger or Triton possibly. I just didn't want to buy something with a motor that's notorious for having issues.

So I'm looking at used boats but not sure what motors are the ones that best to stay away from. Someone told me the Yamaha V-Max had many issues but not sure if the still do. So are there any that are just lemons that always have issues. Also what are the ones that are the "good" ones? Thanks.

My buddy always says wind form the east...fish bite the least. My dad always said they same thing about hunting an east wind. You guys think there is anything to this?

The term was never meant to be an "investment" like in the stock market. It was meant to be used as where do you put your money and get the most return for it in the usefullness and enjoyment factor. I don't know of many hobbies people get into to invest money for a monetary investment. You still must invest money into golf clubs, hunting equipment, and so on. Just wanting to know if its better to put that into the rod or reel if a choice was made.

Where do you think the best return is? If you could buy higher quality for only one, would it be in the reel or the rod?

Don't worry about the tree. Paper companies plant more trees than they cut down. It's a renewable resource. Yes, I work for a paper company.

Do most use the double or is a single good enough? Doesn't it come down to line size or what? I'll use 15 to 17 pound FC most times.
