  1. Ok so i just moved into a new area and its been pretty hard to find places to fish around here. I finally found a few ponds to fish and have had pretty good luck. One has me pretty stumped. The pond itself is about 10-12 acres and its fully accessible all the way around. Max depth is 5 feet. Water is crystal clear all around. The fish are beyond skittish. I've seen 5+ pounders swimming but they don't react to anything. I've thrown soft plastics of all colors. Hard baits. Today i finally got one to react and hit a Huddleston but it just chased and swiped at it. This evening i threw a lucky craft sammy and had several hits but the active fish are 12 inches or less. I've fished a lot of pretty clear water lakes(lanier, hartwell, knottely, clarks hill) and had luck on just about everything. Any ideas or tactics for these fish? I haven't taken my kayak out yet but i'm going totry due to the fact one half of the lake is flooded timber.
  2. It will still be that price. Thats not the 2015 model as to why the price was dropped so low but from what i've heard its still a really great reel.
  3. 189.... 189 for teh abse model aldebaran.... Thank you bootytrain. lol
  4. What website did you find it on for that price?
  5. I laughed a little too hard at that. It will be my first shimano... I've been abu since i started fishing.
  6. Sunline shooter 7lb. I'm pretty excited. Hopefully the S/O doesn't notice its new. lol
  7. So i found them online for 355.... And in a moment of weakness ordered one. It's the new model and i'm wondering if anyone has experience with them? Its the BFS LTD not the base model.... It looked so good and at the price compared to most sites i had to order it.
  8. Flipping jigs is #2 to topwater blowups for me. I love to flip into cover. This year is the first year my pond has had lilly pads. EVER and the ponds been there well over 100 years. So far the fish havent been very keen on the pads yet though.
  9. Instead of a basic frog i usually throw a live target mouse or the spro mouse. I've noticed on heavily pressured waters i'll pull more fish using something a little different.
  10. I've switched it up on my trick worms. I usually throw a weightless fluke but once i feel its been overused i'll throw a weightless trick worm and work it just like a fluke.
  11. Its been high 80s-low 90s here for a month now. What is your go to baits for this time? Morning i throw almost solely topwater or flukes. Mid day shakey heads and jig under dock.
  12. PM sent. AVOID LANIER on holiday weekends. thats the only big thing there.
  13. Gulfcaptain is right. My first few meetings and tournaments very few people talked to me at all. Once I started catching fish and being around more everyone talks to me now.
  14. H20 express. Go to academy.com They're 2.99-3.99 -i work there. lol
  15. Jimbo on Lanier is pretty cool Look up Lanier baits on Facebook. His name is jimmy Harmon. He guides on Lanier along with making his own baits. The other guides and most people know him as "The dropshot Jedi" not only will you catch a lot of fish. It's a great price and you'll get a full ab workout laughing. He is the funniest guy I've met. Also if you want to check out a great tackle shop look up Oakwood Bait and tackle. It's a tiny hole in the wall shop but carries everything quality.
  16. I've been lucky to meet a lot of famous people per say but not many fisherman. Mostly musicians and college coaches. But when i was little we have this thing in my town called the fisharama. They have a trout pond you catch and release fish in. Well my first fish i caught there swallowed the hook so they let me keep the fish.... Well walking out i was extremely excited about it and the guy from the "strollin with Nolan" tv show saw and called me over. My dad and i told him what happened and that i was begging my dad to let me mount it.... He offered to get it mounted for me. Sadly that fish got destroyed in the moving process a few years after and i was devastated. 2 years after that i went again and the people wouldn't let me keep my fish i caught. I didn't understand why they wanted me top throw it back but i did and left upset. I was quite a handful as a little kid. On my way out Jay Yelas was packing up his boat and saw me walking out mad/upset and called my dad and i over. I told him the story which was probably extremely exaggerated by a 7 year old kid at the time but he told me he would've let me keep it and to cheer me up i could go on his boat and grab any one item i wanted. So what does a 7 year old kid grab.... Not one of the 20-30 perfectly setup rod/reel combos, not a small tackle box. I went through everything and decided to get one lure. ONE lone lure... 21 year old me is really upset at 7 year old me for not getting a rod and reel or even an autograph but he was a great guy to meet even at that age and i still have that lure.
  17. So i thought i posted one of these and i was mistaken. Name is Ian. From Georgia. 21. Fished my entire life but got more serious the past 3 years. I fish all over Georgia and South Carolina. Have fished: Texas,Florida,Arkansas,Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Alabama. My go to setup year round is a black and blue jig. Second favorite is s swimbait Since i started getting serious i've placed in a good bit of tournaments and recently joined a bass club. I work part time at Academy sports so i'm always. ALWAYS hearing fishing reports and what works here or there and giving advice on local waters. Full time at the sheriffs office. I try to attend and volunteer at youth events when they take place around me. I have a problem with buying stuff i "NEED" then i end up selling it or giving it away... Miss anything?
  18. I fish with a club and also a co-angler for the bigger events the guys in my club don't participate in. I do not have a boat yet so i've always had to partner with someone. I have yet to have a bad experience with anyone i've been with. We all have good humor and try to stay calm on the water and no matter how big or small the event we have fun with it. From takeoff to a fish a piece is crunch time but after we have one in the boat it relaxes a lot. Last weekends tournament we spent more time playing than we did fishing because we had limits in the first couple hours and there was no big payout on the line. Try to find a club with some good guys and you'll look forward to tournaments and learn a LOT. You'll also be amazed at some of the techniques and skills the older guys have. Back to this past weekend my partner had been fishing the lake his entire life.... He was telling me "off this dock is a chair, Theres a guy in this cove that always wants to have a beer, Theres this dock that has so and so and every year a goose nests in the giant flower pot" probably the most fun i've had with a new person i'd never fished with.
  19. i prefer to skip weightless with spinning also. I work at an outdoors shop and i'm sitting here building combos trying to find a reel i like. So far the curados are doing the best.
  20. Its just an old curado and an original all star rod from when they were made in texas. I have a rod in the same exact action i can skip ok with. I just haven't found a reel that can compete. I fish in a club. Most of the guys are the ones who buy the best of the best but none of his is really new but it all functions flawless. I tried to talk him out of a few reels already... lol
  21. I want to get ceramics and a shallow spool. But I think I'm going to get an all new reel for it since most of mine are already set up. I want to order the Aldebaran 50. Japan tackle has them for 286 opposed to 419 at TW
  22. Yeah. Weightless and Texas rigged. It drives me nuts. It wouldn't bother me if I couldn't do it with something that's not mine.
  23. I can skip a jig all day with a baitcaster. Or anything with a little weight to it. I can skip with my buddies curado no problem. But it's got some upgrades.
  24. Ok so I have a lot of reels. So far I have not found a baitcaster that can skip a soft plastic either weightless or light Texas rig without becoming s mess. My fishing partner uses an old curado that's beefed up a bit and can skip for miles. Maybe I've found reels that could do it but none that I am comfortable with. Any suggestions would be great. So far I have all of the Revo series from the S to the Elite/Premier. No saltwater models. They just don't throw weightless well at all.
