  1. Irod, st croix NEW mojos. Gander Mountian Elite series. The gmountian is made by a quality company, 40 ton graphite blanks. Comparable to 200+ dollar rods.
  2. Because I copied the wrong section.
  3. An advertising company of this site just made a definitive statement about rods being what casts, with reels not playing a part unless they're set up improperly.. My point will be simply to show that it's misinformation for people whom take their advertiser tag, and word over common sense.
  4. I would personally save another 30 dollars. 130 dollars is the price range that I call make or break, anything over you can make it work for years fairly well, and reliably. Anything under that is going to break, it's going to get pretty bad boat rush if you have it stored improperly during hot months, or have it laying in a boat during the hot days with sun.
  5. I have two NRX 852C JWR at home, I'm going to put a Silvermax and one and keep a Core on the other and throw 1/4 weight in the yard. I don't believe they're going to cast even remotely the same distance but we will see.
  6. Biospawn vile craws, t-rigged
  7. Welcome to the club, I'm not too far from you out of Elgin Illinois. Primarily on Wisconsin lakes, or Fox River for smallies and walleye like you. I also practice catch and release unless it's salmon out of Lake Michigan.
  8. It's a nice reel, if it was the only reel I had ever held I would of loved it unconditionally, it was smooth, good casting distance, mechanically sound. With that said, having used other reels in the casting sector from 30 dollars, to 700 dollars. I was not impressed with it for the price point, and the competitiveness of the market in the area and price point. 350$ retail can buy you a lot of different options. I personally have a 230$ reel I am more a fan of than the MGX.
  9. 30lb Power Pro super 8 slick. I'd just avoid rocks like the plague.
  10. I've never seen anything outcast a Shimano Core, ever. I own one, I've fished with several of them and when I'm testing a new reel like I will be with a few I ordered recently I always compare it to the casting distance, and smooth retrieve of the Core. I've seen 600$+ reels that can't hold a candle to the core.
  11. 30 pound braid, more than strong enough to handle the shock of a fish hitting it. 6.x.1 or a 7.1.1 ratio reels will work, that way you can work em slow, or speed it up to get some serious action from the bait.
  12. I use braid for absolutely everything. I throw a leader on of 100% flouro if I need to but that's about it. I don't own anything else but a 12lb mono for backing.
  13. Still to this day haven't thrown a chatterbait, plan on doing it at least once this summer.
  14. You can't go wrong with a Blackmax or Silvermax.
  15. IRod Gen II 8' Heavy Swimbait $150 This rod for certain, at least in my opinion.
  16. I'm ordering three myself, I understand it looks gimmicky and I feel the same way. But in regards to fishing this and moving it quickly up and down with a willow 1/8th ounce I feel like this could present a much better presentation than a wacky rig. I have no idea, it's just a feeling. I'd really like to see it at a 1/4 so I can really move the bait around during aggressive feeding times but maybe in the future if this doesn't prove to be another banjo minnow. I also feel like the water displacement could be better than an underspin for JR flukes, and vile craws (if the biospawn craws aren't too beefy to over power the lure itself that is)
  17. I own a thousand dollar and change rod and reel setup, I own 300 dollar rod and reel setups. And have spent 30 dollars or more on a single hard bait. It can very easily become a rich mans sport, but so can't almost anything else. I could be just as happy with a few bags of soft plastics, a few bottles of jj magic and some terminal tackle on 130 dollar gander mountian elite series rod, with a BPS pro qualifier reel as I am an nrx and shimano core, and a boat load of tackle.
  18. I usually upgrade all of my trebles to mustard hooks. Especially for salmon fishing.
  19. What guys do you commonly use for penetrating very thick weed beds around docks? What colors do you prefer in these situations?
  20. If those are the three you're interested in I would go with the lews. However I'm not allowed to mention my other two recommendations on this site.
  21. I wonder if this is a ploy, they're secretly designed to break other rods with use so Carrot isn't the only company with the problem of excessive breaking? If not I don't understand in what world a company with such a poor quality rating would make a baitcaster. The pinnacle of elitism when it comes to quality.
  22. If I'm not using my left hand for pitching, then I'm always with two hands on my rod. It feels more controlled to me. I can't honestly ever recall casting with one hand. Unless you're fishing pistol grips
  23. I think it's just the extra water displacement to attract the lateral line from a further distance.
