  1. Have you considered this -- http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/pelican-bass-raider-10e-10-2-pontoon-boat/pid-1408792-- a lot of people love these things. I'm tempted, myself.
  2. I was looking at Berkley Powerbait products and also Megastrike. We need every edge we can get, it seems. Seem to make sense. Do you think it works? Which do you like?
  3. Have people modified these Pelican (or other brand) boats to be one-man boats? I would like to know what people have done, pics would be awesome. What is the best price for Pelican Bass Raider, and has it gone on sale?
  4. I have a 1432 with 5hp Nissan outboard and also a troll motor and I can fish it with another person but it's not very comfortable fishing. Bear in mind that I have caught a bazillion bass with a small jon boat. I also owned a 12' that I loved and two fished out of it and it was even better because it was deeper and wider than my 1432. It was more stable. I would not put a deck on one unless it was far wider than a 1432. And preferably longer. Another option is two kayaks, lol. You might luck up and find a decent used one. If you go around a lake, you can spot some and if you ask, you might snag one reasonably.
  5. A buddy has these two for sale, never used... Dobbins SS 663 C and SS 703 C rods. These are both MH/Fast and the first is 6.5' and the second is 7' length. If I can buy for a good price... hmmm... Do you know of them, what type fishing would they be good for? I don't know much about rods at all, what makes this rod a good one? They cost $160 and $170 new.
  6. I bought a 1997 Bass Tracker Pro Team 17, a 17' aluminum boat with 40hp motor and troll motor. There is an old depth finder on it but it doesn't work. I note that the transducer is mounted on the bottom of the transom; it's a hinged bracket and the transducer is NOT parallel or in line with the bottom of the boat. Due to the hinge, it isn't pointed straight down. If you hit a log or something, due to the hinge, it can be knocked out of alignment like it is. I want to buy a new fish finder (maybe two), where can I put the transducer? I might also buy another troll motor. I guess the question is, where to put a transducer for a bow mounted fish finder and where to put one for a fish finder mounted at the steering console.
  7. Just last week, I found my anchor I had been looking for to use in my jon boat. It sure came in handy on this particular lake. When I found it, I noted that the rope was ragged but it was plenty heavy enough for the small anchor. It crossed my mind to wonder if the rope was good, as the anchor had been sitting outside for a couple years. I tugged on the rope hard as I could and it felt ultra strong. Wrong. Dropped it over the side the second time on the lake and the rope broke. I felt like an idiot to lose that perfectly good $20 anchor. Would have been so easy to just put a new rope on.
  8. You most often hear people talking about action. How does rod length come into play? And is it the same for casting and spinning?
  9. Hmmm, I made an offer on Ebay and picked one up, brand new, for a great price. I see these still selling for $429 in some places. Any tips to set it up right?
  10. Well, you've got wind and sometimes, you have to throw into it. You've got limbs of trees sometimes because you are inside a Cypress forest in the lake and you have to cast under and around trees. You've got different weights baits, and baits that are shaped like a missile and baits that have a lot of surface area like a crawfish. And different line tests and all kinds of variables. And you have several rigs and they have different rod flexes and the reels have different setups and you are switching between them all. And I dunno, but seems to me, with me and all of the guys I fish with, backlashes are certainly not unusual. Maybe none of us know what we are doing, lol. I got a spinning reel setup lately and it's pretty foolproof, lol. Hmmm...
  11. I am quite enamored with the ned rig and finesse fishing, as I prefer to catch quantities instead of drooling for the hawgs. I *so* want to fish it hook-exposed but I can't due to the cover in my lakes. I caught some bass (and even bream) on the Zman setup with Shrrom jig and TRD with exposed hook but it was hanging up a lot and I have since tried to use weedless hooks with the metal thingy that goes over the hook point. I have never done well in my lakes with that because it attracts moss, grass, algae. Now, I am trying Texas rig, using a "slider" type jig head and it seems to work fine but, I am missing fish. The hook is not coming out well enough and I hate to miss fish! But, it could be bream or jackfish (pickerel), too. I really am in a quest for a totally weedless ned rig to where I can get good hookups. I would love to find some bass in an area I could use ned rig with exposed hook!
  12. Sometimes, even with a bassboat and foot-controlled troll motor, it's a battle with the wind. I have a small lake I go to and I sometimes think, heck, I should just run upwind and drift back over a decent area next to the creek channel. Might take, say, 30 minutes per drift. How to fish it? Throw upwind and then hop a worm/sinker off the bottom as you drift or what? Jig a crappie jig straight up and down and you might catch bass or crappie? Anyone do this?
  13. Baitcast reels, being prone to backlash, drive some people nutty. Have any of you found a reel that changed your life, so to speak, lol? Expensive to me is, say, $175 for a reel but geez, I am seeing reels for $400 and more. Does it matter? It really would be cool to find a reel that rarely backlashes.
  14. Zman The Real Deal.
  15. Field & Stream, the magazine? I wonder if it's still available. And where do you buy manual inflate for $50?
  16. I bought a 1997 17' Bass Tracker which supposedly has very little time on it and that appears to be true based on looking at the main prop, the troll motor prop, the tires, the seats, the carpet, the overall boat and trailer. Yet, when I activate the troll motor with the foot control, there is a lot of slop, it rattles and is quite noisy with the torque from being activated. Troll motor is a Motor Guide Tracker 30; it says 37 lb. thrust. It has less slop if I have it on a low speed, obviously, due to less torque. I'd like to know how to lessen this noise and jerking motion. BTW, I note that the plastic bracket that extends to the very tip of the bow has a compound fracture. I wonder if I could glue that and have it hold.
  17. Is he still actively on the circuit or is he pulled a zillion directions with his fame and business interests? I have no idea, I have not followed bass tourneys. He seems to have done something right in the past. Does he have a good or bad reputation?
  18. I see his name isn't on the list, he wasn't there? Why not?
  19. How much for this? Is the transducer $1,500? What unit do you couple it to?
  20. Do the lines have to be similar lbs. or similar diameter to hold?
  21. I bought a Zebo Z03 reel for my gf. I thought I'd try it, lol. It casts a mile. The line is red, I guess it's 10 lb something. I am curious if spincast reels have dramatically improved since I was a kid and everybody had a Zebco 33. I think this (EDIT: I mean the Zebco Z03) is top of the line or close anyway in the Zebco line. And is there any spincast reel you feel is totally adequate for bass fishing? I guess for small bass, it would be fine. Which is mostly what I catch, lol. But, I caught a 6 lb bass on a Zebco when I was 13. Hmmm... it says 2.9 gear ratio, wonder if that means it's half the retrieve speed, feet per crank revolution, as one that is 5.8. If I have a complaint, it's that the drag keeps loosening and the knob is right there where your thumb is. That's good for adjusting, but maybe my thumb is hitting it? I don't know why it would loosen on its own. Anyone use spincast? Do you need to match these up with any certain rod specs?
  22. How do you guys apply KVD?
  23. My fave color in stained / dark water is watermelon red.
  24. Fishing is weird. You have the feeling that there are fish where you are fishing, you've caught them there before, but they won't bite. I just looked at the 2015 Classic results. Two guys in last place got zero. Those at/near the top caught their limit, and good fish. Those guys at the bottom are no slouches or they wouldn't be there. I assume that those guys did fish. Fishing is weird.
