Best Equipment To Feel Bites
Tell that to Berkley; they say they designed the rod for Superline.

Berkley Lightning Rod - Shock Series
I bought a Shock spinning rod at Walmart for $40, 7' Med, paired with Pfleuger President 6940 and I really like it. I am using Sufix 832 Advanced Superline. I am amazed at how good I can feel every stick/stump when fishing a Texas rig worm and feel bass bites great. I set the hook hard and it does great, hookup percentage is high. I also like the flex, allowing me to fling a fluke or worm for accurate casts.

Yamasenko -- I Lost Two Bass
I guess they were bass, bit like bass. I got two strikes this morning and set the hook and got nothing back but my 1/8 oz jighead. The second Yamasenko was brand new. Rigged weedless Texas-style, how the heck can that be? How could it instantly come off upon hook set? There are jackfish (pickerel) in that lake and I usually catch a couple; I suppose it could have been a jackfish, with their sharp teeth. But even a jackfish, can't figure out how it could just instantly come off. The baits might have been 2-3 years old. I found a package a few days ago in my closet. I wonder if they deteriorate (in the original packaging). Weird, yesterday, I caught several bass in that lake with no issue with this bait.

Do You Like Fluorocarbon Line?
Why do you like it? I've never used it. Thinking of adding a leader to my braid but I might try fluorocarbon on its own just to try it. My buddy tried it, didn't like it.

Best Equipment To Feel Bites
I have a new rig -- Berkley Lightning Rod Shock Spinning Rod / Pfleuger President 6940 spinning reel / sufix 832 advanced superline braid fishing line 50 lb. I note that when fishing a worm, I can feel everything I come in contact with better than ever! I feel bass hit the work really well. I wonder if it is the rod or what? The rod is supposedly made for superline. A label says something like "super sensitive tip" on the rod. It is a 7' medium action. I am wondering what provides such sensitivity? Rod, line? Would a heavier rod provide more sensitivity for detecting strikes or less?

How To Get A Plug Out Of Aluminum Boat There Long Time
I have a 14' aluminum boat, 6 yrs old, and the plug has been in there since bought! It won't come out. It's a standard plug with the nut on the end that you can tighten or loosen. I guess dirt and corrosion got in there. Any tip on how to get this out, I can't budge it.

Owl Tries To Steal Frog Lure
Awesome, glad he didn't get hooked! I once saved a coyote pup; I was hiking down a levee and this little pup ran out of the grass, onto the road atop the levee and trotted ahead of me. A huge red tailed hawk came out of the sky and was in a dive to nail the pup and I screamed at the last second before impact and the pup did a jag and the hawk missed. I questioned if the hawk could carry him, he was pretty big. I guess he would have just eaten him there. Or part of him. Lucky pup!

Flukes
Fluke is my favorite bait, I fish it weightless with a very sharp hook rigged Texas style. I let it settle next to the target, then twitch it a few times on the way back. I reel in when it's 10-20' away from the target cover (heavy cover, shallow lakes). Watermelon red is by far my favorite color, but they bite other colors too.

I Don't Understand: Bobber Stop / What Is Punching
What is punching, is that dropping your lure down into heavy cover? Or casting into it? And... see this -- http://www.*.com/Eagle-Claw-Bobber-Stop-p/eagleclaw-bobberstop.htm-- I understand a bobber stop. I guess I do. It stops your bobber at a certain depth, for using a sliding bobber setup so you can cast it. But on that page, the people talk about it like it is to stop the weight. ???

My First Lake Is Full Of Small Fish
I fished this lake a ton of times as a teen ager and young man. Even back then, bout all I caught was buck bass. Been fishing the lake several times this year and have caught several bass on most trips and all fish are about 1 pound, same as decades ago. It's about 70 acre lake/pond, flooded timber in upper third of it (which is about 99% rotted away), built probably 1965. Fed by a small creek. In all of the times I fished it, I recall only catching two bass over 5 pounds. I wonder what's up with that. Also, I note that I have never known anyone catch a good mess of white perch (crappie) or even finding a bream bed. When I buy a bass boat (soon), I am tempted to go there and scope out the creek channel and try to fish that channel. (Been fishing the shallow water lately.) Years ago, though, my buddy and I did fish a worm on that creek and caught a few, but never really slayed them. I guess I was easily entertained back then. The lake does not get much fishing pressure at all.

What is a C-rig? Thanks.

Fish-Catching Method For My Girlfriend
That's very interesting, you saying you have caught thousands that way. Hmmm. Do you rig it Texas style? Is your lake full of stumps/cover where you troll? Do you troll with big motor or trolling motor?

Fish-Catching Method For My Girlfriend
Hello Chris, I am newly back into fishing after fishing heavily for most of my life, but been out of it for quite a long time. I know the shape of a circle hook but why would a circle hook lessen deep-hooking fish?

Is A Long Leader Okay? What Lb. Test?
I want to be able to see my line but the new braid I just put on a spinning rod/reel is not easy to see. It is Sufix 832 Advanced Superline 20 lb. I would like to put McCoy Clear Blue Flourescent (or something highly visible) leader on there. I fish shallow lakes, generally 8' deep or shallower. How long can a leader be? Also, what lb. test should I use for a leader? This is for fishing soft plastics, like a fluke, rigged Texas style. Or I guess I could remove the new line and put some yellow braid Power Pro on or something like that, lol. Might do some night fishing, fluourescent would help.

Fish-Catching Method For My Girlfriend
She doesn't "work it" back, she just reels it in? And does she set the hook? I fished a frog bait like the horny toad a few days ago and I never did land a fish and had about five great hits. After a couple of misses, I tried to wait to set the hook; never did catch one. So, does she catch 'em on the horny toad or just enjoy watching them strike? It would drive me nuts to never catch one, lol. I am still investigating using a frog and not missing fish!

Fish-Catching Method For My Girlfriend
LOL, what a crazy post, but, I'd really like to know, I'd bet a bunch of guys have dealt with this. My gf had never been fishing until I took her couple of days ago. She caught a bass and two jackfish, so, that was awesome. I had her throw a very small white spinnerbait; it runs pretty shallow. The lake has a lot of moss in it, so, it can't run deep. I am looking for foolproof baits for her to throw. I have never fished a wacky worm, is that foolproof or do you have to set the hook. She doesn't "get it" as for setting the hook. If we did wacky worm, it would have to be fished with a weedless hook, there is a lot of cover in this lake, including the moss. I bought a Zebco Z03 Pro Omega spincast reel for $65, then a rod, and she did great with it. Made a lot of good casts, rarely got hung up. I had her practice a couple of days before we went. I didn't know Zebco made a higher end spincast; it had real good reviews. I bought her a decent rod, too. Anyway, looking for a way for her to fish to where technique does not matter so much. Any fish is a good fish for her. I would be bass fishing, using my troll motor to move along slowly. I think she wants to cast instead of using a stationary pole. Although, I am going to take her crappie fishing and bream fishing, and we might both use poles. Ideas for lures for her for casting?

Spinning Rod/reel For Finesse Fishing
I am thinking of using lighter plastic baits, like 3" flukes, etc. I bought a Pfleuger President 6940 for bass. It's the largest President. They make five models in President line. 6920 6925 6930 6935 6940 Which reel? I catch quite a few crappie when fishing flukes. I like crappie and I always catch nice ones on 5" flukes. I am thinking I might catch more on 3" flukes. So, this would be a combo rig for fishing for bass/crappie. The 6920 is ultralight model. I fear that is too light? Obviously, I would catch some bass and maybe a lot! So, I am thinking of middle ground. I would like to be able to throw small small spinner baits and small plastics too. Maybe small divers. I guess I am looking for a lighter weight bass rig but it would double to catch crappie. I have found that ultralight rigs are much too light for my preference. Light weight is good but I prefer a little bit stiffer setup. I don't have to buy Pfleuger, it's just that the President series gets as good a review as any product I have ever seen! I fished with my new 6940 yesterday and liked it but noted the bail was hard to flip after a cast. But I don't have experience with spinning gear, so, maybe I don't have it set up right. Anyway, I am not married to Pfleuger. Then we come to rods. I don't think I want something real short. I am thinking 6.5' to 7' rod. What action? I don't think I would be throwing tiny baits but small baits, yes. Weightless 3" flukes, small spinner baits, beetle spins, roadrunners, small crank baits, etc. Thanks in advance for help. P.S. Since I am new to this, no sense in spending a lot. Say, less than $125 for rod and reel. Unless somebody says oh my, you gotta have such and such!

Should I Put On A Filler On Spinning Reel?
If the braid is tied into the holes in the center hub of the spool, it can't slip, right? I like that idea of putting all braid on and then reversing the braid in second season for two years of fishing. Seems like a good idea, lol.

What Is Your Ideal Bass Boat?
- hydraulic steering, never heard of it on boat, ignorant of it, so, why do you want/need it? - why do you favor a 2-stroke? - what is hydraulic jack plate? - what does a 36 volt troll motor do for you? - oxygenator pro, does that just keep fish alive better in live well? - what is a di/si? Thank you, learning, lol.

Should I Put On A Filler On Spinning Reel?
Got a new rig, Pfleuger President and a Berkley 7' Med rod. Was recommended to try a superline with this setup, Sufix 832 Advanced Superline in 20 lb test. I bought the line at BPS for $45, 300 yrds. Sounds expensive but I guess it isn't. I had them spool it. The salesman put it on and afterwards I thought gee, I probably wasted a lot of line. I mean, heck, most of my casts are fairly short and max is probably 30 yds. And it will be rare to break braid, so, that line underneath is just going to waste? Would you put a filler line on first and if so, what? Any tips if I want to remove some of what I have on it now? How much filler, how much braid? I used the rig yesterday, liked it, caught six.

Hook Set For Soft Plastics
Yesterday, I bought a pack of Trokar Lazer Flippin Hook 4.0, $6 for 4 hooks at BPS. These have couple of knobby things near the eye to keep the plastic bait on the hook. I had 6 strikes and caught 6 bass. Can't beat that! All were hooked in side or roof of mouth and no way would they get off. This was using my brand new 7' Berkley Med action rod and Pfleuger President 6940 reel with 20lb Sufix 832 Advanced Superline. To get 6 out of 6, I'm pumped. The only disadvantage is that the head of the Zoom Fluke seemed to tear up quicker. I could only catch a 1-2 fish on each fluke. EDIT: I just remembered how this was not a perfect test because the six I caught were small bass, all 1 - 1.5 lb. The test is the big ones. Although, if a big one is hooked in the side or top of his mouth like these were, he's not getting off.
