  1. What book would you recommend? And not limited to bass or even freshwater angling, any nonfiction fishing book.
  2. very informative, thanks LBH
  3. The earth of course does go through natural warming/cooling cycles. It also goes through unnatural cooling/heating cycles. For example a large volcanic eruption or asteroid strike causes a drastic cooling cycle. Massive release of greenhouse gasses causes a drastic warming cycle.
  4. I have read many posts mentioning non certified scales. So what is a certified scale? A state certified weigh station?
  5. Ok I got the daiwa viento for christmas and i need to decide on a rod for it. I already have a chronarch on a stcroix avid M/H. I was thinking about getting a IMX 844 and putting the cronarch on it for flipping and pitching. The viento will go on the st croix. that sound like a good idea or does anyone have a better suggestion?
  6. I have seen video of LMB spitting out a couple treble hooks and of them being ripped out of the mouth. I beleive the reason for this is treble hooks are generally attached to the body of a lure and the force of your pull on the line is not directly transmitted to the points of the treble as it is with a single hook attached directly to your line. Meaning that the points may not be lined up correctly to pierce the mouth and are simply pulled out. At least that is what i think is happening.
  7. im looking for a new rod to go w/ the reel im getting for christmas. was leaning toward a g loomis or another st croix. It doesnt seem that either sell any spiral wrap rods though. i was doing some reading on the spiral wraps and am interested in getting one. where can i get one with comparable quality/pricing/warranty as these manufacturers?
  8. i generally try to have the buzzbait moving before it hits the water but sometimes have to let it sink as switch hands in the canoe on a shorter cast, same with some jerkbaits i like to move real quick when they first hit the water. Hmmm.. something to think about. maybe ill try a left handed retrieve and return it if i dont like it.
  9. how old do sturgeon get? ive read that they are one of the longest lived animal species
  10. im getting a new baitcats soon and was debating left vesus right hand retrieve. I cast and retreive right hand now so maybe ishould just stick with whats working like maltese.
  11. Hey i just asked for a viento for christmas and im wondering what rod i should purchase to go with it. I already have a st croix M/H fast action 6'6". I was thinking maybe a 7' g-loomis or another st croix rod with a heavier action. The g-loomis seems a little expensive but i might be able to swing it w/out having to buy the reel. The Flipping stick GL-3 seems like a good buy and i was also looking at the st croix tourney series 7' 6" med /heavy. What do you guys think?
  12. I havent fished much in moving water mostly stick to small ponds, large ponds and maybe their inlet stream. I want to get out to the Taunton river to do some fishing and was hoping you guys could direct me to some articles on fishing running water or give me your own tips.
  13. maybe try some superflukes and some suspending baits you can work really slow, or any countdown lure you can try at different depths. as far as other soft plastics i been getting skunked on the senkos myself but i have caught a few on fat ikas rigged backwards, havent been taking them rigged forward for some reason. Also if u use live bait they have been going crazy for shiners in my ponds lately
  14. its funny you say that cause now that ive been using a right hand retrieve baitcast ive switched my spinning gear to right hand retrieve. I like the feel of it better and i think i get better hooksets
  15. had a lot of fun fishing withing some new people this year, im loving my new baitcast setup and am looking to buy a second, caught a lot of nice fish, and am hoping to try some icefishing this winter
  16. i have had a lot of luck with small suspending rapala baits worked slow. At sundown ive still been getting a lot of hits on buzzbaits as well. I dont use jigs much but my fishing partners have been catching some big ones on 1/2 oz black jigheads w/ a gycb baby craw trailer and some spider grub trailers. what have u been using?
  17. I was just wondering how many of you cast right handed with a right hand retrieve baitcast. I learned on spinning rigs and always casted right handed and now do the same with my right hand retrieve baitcastand swith hands on the retrieve. Do those of you that do the same notice that you lose any fish when they hit right away? I havent lost any yet but i could see that happening.
  18. and i didnt know about those stores opening either that will be sweet
  19. i was contemplating buying the calais w/ a g loomis but i think that is going to have to wait till next year about $400 is the most i want to spend on the whole setup for this spring. I may get the calais once the overtime kicks back in next summer
  20. yeah i used to seel them when i was 10 to about 14 i wouldnt do that now but i sure did make some money selling them and earthworms to various fisherman
  21. any fine grit diamond sharpener that looks small enough will do?
  22. I love the baitcasting setup i bought this year (cronarch on a st croix rod) and i want to get another baitcasting setup. Ive read about many many different reels on the forums and i am interested in several. However i dont know of any places i can try them out before purchase. I know im not going to be able to actually bring one out on the water but to actually get my hands on them at the store would be nice. I buy some tackle at dicks but their reel selection is very limited. I live in southern MA anyone know a store with a large selection i can try a few reels out at? hmm.... maybe i should post this in the locations section
  23. Ok, thanks guys. I guess ill just keep at it
  24. I didnt have time to read all the posts on this thread so i dont know if anyone has mentioned it but it seems that most good braid is a LOT more expensive than comparable strength of any other line. That is a pretty good reason for me to stick mainly to mono.
  25. my local pond is full of crawfish. I know cause i used to net coolers full of them out of the pond and go sell em at larger bodies of water. I picked up some crawfish lookin jig trailers but my pond is choked with weeds. whats a good bait or way to fish a jig in a weed choked pond?
