  1. The boat was trimmed as far down as it could go, we had one tank of gas full and the other empty. It was normal conditions as far as weight on a boat. And it took like 20 sec to plane out. I'm a big guy (260lb) and I sit on the front deck and it still took 10 sec. I thought something may have been out of adjustment that is cause both problems. Honestly I don't know the way to diagnose between ventilation, cavitation, and slippage, the best way i can describe it is that I am going down the lake I trim up and then the engine revved like what would happen if you pushed the clutch in on a manual truck while driving it.i tried googling my problem and I see that it could be multiple things, and I don't know how to narrow it down.
  2. So the cavitation plate and the bottom of the boat need to be Parralel, and the center of the prop needs to be 3.5" below the bottom of the hull correct? And I thought that's what it could be on the top speed, but it doesn't act like it is slipping when it is trying to plain out so that had me confused. What could cause the slow plane?
  3. I have a 1993 stratos 201 pro xl with a 200 evinrude. it takes for ever for it to plane out it acts like it can't get enough power to plane out. Then when it finally planes out the prop acts like it wants to spin out, and when you trim it up it starts to spin a lot until it finally comes out of plane. I can play with the trim and still get it up to 45mph with the trim almost all the way down. The lower unit was new on the boat when I got it, and the engine has just been rebuilt. At first the jackplate was way to low, then I adjusted it up to the center of the prop being 3" below the bottom of the boat with the prop and the boat being centered. I'm at a loss for what to do next.
  4. Found small nick marks on the main shaft
  5. That's a amazing looking reel, I got the Shimano style handles on mine
  6. Thanks a lot, I like to think I'm somewhat good at this because I do similar things like this for a living. But it was interesting without a diagram, I took it apart twice yesterday and put it back together with not really any problems minus that o-ring. Thanks for the diagram by the way. I'm still kinda lacking the silky smooth retrieve I was looking for, but I got a 35 sec freespool on it with the stock bearings so that part is under control. Maybe I need to remove the gears again today when I get the bearings to put in and do a good scrubbing in them with a toothbrush and buy some better grease sense I only have reel butter. My main concern now is if the handle I bought for the reel will fit it, hawgtech said it was made for this model reel
  7. I have it all took apart and I took a million pics to remember how it went together but I found a o-ring that I don't know where it came from. If anyone knows Much about the Calais could you help? It fell out when I took the side plate off of the drive side I'm pretty sure. I went ahead and put the whole reel back together for the night minus this o-ring, because my bearing should be here tommorow.
  8. Thanks for all the replys the gear set just seems kinda dry, I would like to send it off to get it worked but I would like to fish it now, I just wanna clean lube it on my on to make it better. Does anyone have a diagram on the Calais they could share? I still plan on getting it sent off later on. And also what kind of work is required to get the handle to fit?
  9. Okay I may check into that if I can't get the performance I wanted, I'm a tinkerer and I wanna see what I can do myself but I'll probably end up sending it to him. I this thing to be as smooth as possible. What is polish and cleaning about all you can do to them?
  10. I just bought a used Shimano Calais, wondering what all I can do to make the reel the smoothest furthest casting reel possible? It's always been a dream to own one, know I want to make it as smooth as possible. I have abec 7 bearings coming for it with some of the boca oil, and a hawgtech 102mm handle. Are their any tricks to cleaning this reel to make it any better?
  11. Anyone know where I could get a xg at right now? Or how long it would take to get it from tackle warehouse? I want one asap lol
  12. Imo id start off with a couple pointers, couple mcsticks, and a couple 110s that would get the basic selection of brands. I'd do one of each brand in a smoke/clear styler pattern, and the other in a chrome style pattern. That will catch fish in every single lake
  13. What hooks do you guys use to get through the thick body of these plastics? I'm thinking at 7/0ewg. What do you guys prefer for magnum beavers?
  14. So how would the ALX deputy 7'1" medium heavy compare to my imx 7'1" 3 power rod? I'm looking for a heavier action rod. Would the medium heavy be plenty or should I go with a heavy in your opinion? I'm very undecided on what I want
  15. Wonder how this compares to the aldebaran? Will it be worth the price difference?
  16. That sounds good but I really prefer full cork handles. I really want a st croix avid but I fear it will be to heavy, because my 6'6" avid seems a fuzz heavy but I have no clue about there 7' rods
  17. Sounds good ill call him tommorow, I'm just looking zolo with a full handle
  18. I bought a avid 6'6"mf and it's the best jerkbait I've ever owned hands down
  19. Does this rod have plenty of backbone to get the fish out of the cover? Sounds like what I want if I could find one in stock. And is anyone familiar with his turnover wait on a custom rod, and his pricing on his customs?
  20. Imo I like the st criox avid better then the new loomis imx, if they where both $200 I'd still pick the avid
  21. I'm locking for as light of a rod as I can get in the $200-250 range, gonna be for 1/4-1/2oz. I'd like it to be 7' and mh-h power. It's gonna be paired with a core 50mg7. I'd like to build a light setup that I can fish all day no with no fatigue.
  22. I like the idea and plan on buying one asap, if you see one for sale let me know. I currently use all 200i's
