  1. So I recently began fishing with the Stanley Ribbit Frog. I started off just using a 5/0 hook and the first day using it I missed a fish and got another. Ever since, I haven't been able to bring one in. I get plenty of blowups but no luck bringing them in. So I decided to try the Stanley Double hook that they make for their frogs...nothing changed. Plenty of blowups but no fish. Also I noticed with this type of hook my frog is upside half the time and I have no idea how to fix that. In open water there is no issue, but as soon as I throw it on top of grass or algae it starts coming back upside-down. Any reason this is happening? is it something I'm doing? maybe rigging it wrong or off-center? Before I set the hook i let them take it under and wait a bait then set the hook and then I play "dodge the flying frog." Any advice would be great because I can see this bait works! I just need to be able to bring the fish in. (I'm using a frogging rod and I'm using heavy braid on my reel as well. I have the bluegill color, the watermelon red, and the white frogs.)
  2. So I have a Lowrance unit on my kayak, and I recently Haven't been able to fully connect/turn the cable to the unit. So the prongs go in but then the piece that turns and locks it in place isn't turning and locking down all the way. Any tips to fix this? Should I not be out in the rain while this is happening?
  3. @Bluebasser86 I recently got into chatterbait and I've caught some of my biggest off them. Haven't seen any red ones tho, those are pretty sweet!

My go to would have to be: Strikeking 1.5: sexy shad, bluegill, and natural shad. Spro little John: Rootbeer
  5. I'm sure they are in there but don't forget extra hooks and weights for soft plastics. I have one Plano box I take that I call my A-team, it's all my confidence baits plus one or two I'm trying out. Once you fish certain areas enough you get to figure out what works and you can change out the "team" depending on where you go. Then I have another plano with about 8 bags of worms/rodents with a section of it filed with hooks and another with weights. Limiting what you take with you, in my opinion, can make you a better angler. I like to take things I'm not good at (worm fishing) and force myself to only use that. I've learned a lot and I've had some great days by doing this.
  6. I have a lot of trust in shad pattern cranks, even in lakes where I don't think there are any shad. I do find myself hesitant to throw it in lakes where I'm not sure shad is available, do you think it really matters? I feel like they will go after it just because they can lol
  7. Went out to a lake I usually do very well on, this day it was raining the whole time i was there and the water was the clearest I had probably ever seen it. I was pretty confused because I'm used to stained water. I decided to try the usual baits for a cloudy day and I was getting nothing. My buddy decided to throw a red craw square bill and he was just having a field day! When is the best time to use this red cranks?? I heard they also work best in shallow water?? I thought for clear water its best to use natural looking baits, which i tried and after about 4 hours I began to catch them as well! So what would be the best attack for a cloudy/raining day with very clear water?? For the record I was able to come back and tie my buddy on the last cast of the day! haha he wasn't happy about it at all! Good ol' trusty bluegill square bill saved the day!!
  8. @primetime thanks so much for all that info, it all makes sense to me. I'll have to start trying the blue sapphire color, can't say I've messed with it too much. Most lakes around here are stained and I've been pretty successful with natural colors or anything with some gold to it. Thanks for taking some time and writing all that, I appreciate it. I think you can never stop learning when it comes to fishing, wife gets mad when I start doing research and start ignoring her haha
  9. @primetime Thanks for that info man, i guess I haven't really looked at baitfish enough but all that makes sense. whats the spike it marker you mentioned?? I've never heard of it and i've never really used markers before. I've also never gone into the wake bait world, might be something to try. Mind explaining a little more about the color not turning grey without sunlight??
  10. Had an aha moment the other day, wanted to see what all you pros thought about this. So we use chartreuse baits on low light/stained water. Is this because those scenarios cause the bright yellow to take on a brownish more realistic tone? What about gold blades on chatterbaits? I only use them on cloudy days, am I missing out by only using them on cloudy days? Thanks guys!
  11. I've been really looking at their products and want to buy some of their crankbaits, any advice on which ones to get?? Maybe you've noticed a certain type of them work better in certain situations. Im interested in the MVMT, 50X, and 75X lines. The colors I like are the chrome shiner, live baby shad, and the bluegill colors. Any help is appreciated!! Thanks!
  12. just recently began using chatterbaits, I was introduced to them by LTB with a chatterfrog. I'm just mad I hadn't used them before, they are awesome and I've caught some of my biggest fish on them over the past few weeks. I only use the trailer that comes with the z-man original chatterbait, what trailers do people use? I've been thinking of going and buying some trailers just not sure which ones.
  13. Hey Sam did you mean Gordon creek? I can't find Jordan creek
  14. Ended up driving a bit further and put in at Morris Creek Boat ramp, and ended up having one of my best days in my kayak. Fished nothing but grass lines after getting most of my bites there. Only got one bass off structure. Crankbaits and chatterbaits were my go to. I might try Jordan creek either Thursday morning or Friday.
  15. Fished Morris Creek which is near the opening of the chick and had a blast fishing grass lines! Caught them all on crankbaits and chatterbaits, I've caught some of my biggest fish this year on chatterbaits. Might head out there again Friday and maybe hit up the upper Chickahominy river Thursday.
  16. So I can't find too much information on this place as far as bass fishing goes. I've fished the upper chickahominy river, and chickahominy lake but I've never been as far down as the opening of the Chick. Want to put my kayak in tomorrow morning but wanted to see if anyone has some good info on where to go? I read something about heading back into Morris Creek? Any information would be appreciated! Thanks!! Also if anyone wants to meet up and go bass fishing tomorrow let me know, I love fishing new areas!!!
  17. I was there this past week and used Orlando bass as my guide, shoot me a message if you want and I'll let you know how it went
  18. Taking the family to Disney World in early April and as much fun as meeting Mickey is gonna be... I want to take a day to fish while I'm down there, I would love to get some fishing in on Lake Toho. I've looked up some guide services and they are definitely pricey (300-400 bucks for 4-6 hrs). Looking for some advice/info on guide services in the area, I'm active military so if you know of any military friendly places that'd be great also. Looking to see if anyone on here has used guide services and their experiences with them, are they worth it? Its going to be my first time fishing in FL and I'm more than excited for it haha. Thanks in advance for any information you guys send my way.
  19. Thanks everyone, I appreciate the help! Learned a few things.
  20. So I've recently started fishing weightless worms a lot, so I'm learning to watch the line. Since this is something new to me, I'm using my old set-ups and all my lines are the moss green color. The waters in my area are pretty stained so the line and the water kinda match. I fish mostly braid with a leader on the end, but now I'm thinking of buying some high vis line for my weightless worm fishing. What would you (the more seasoned gents) recommend? As in what color and what type? Mono or fc? Thanks for the help!
  21. If you don't mind traveling to the Williamsburg area there are a lot of good places like: Chickahominy Lake (you can launch at Ed Allen's) Chickahominy River Diascund Reservoir (its low right now, a good time to explore and find all the stumps and lay downs) Little Creek Reservoir (good walleye fishing) Waller Mill (heard great things, have the worst luck there haha) I live in Newport news and travel up there a lot, I also fish around here: Newport News Reservoir Harwoods Mill Reservoir Good Luck!
  22. Guess this is pretty ironic...caught this 22" Bass today, my PB, with you guessed it...a wacky rigged worm! Wish i had a scale, I'm buying a scale on my next trip to bass pros! haha When I set the hook on this beauty almost lost my pole haha caught a another big bass today using a chartreuse trick worm and hopping it off the bottom.
  23. I've actually had luck using the rage bug with that set up!
  24. Fished again today at a different lake while it was raining, and the only three fish i caught today was on the wacky rigged worm haha I'm starting to think there is something to these worm things. I tried throwing my usual cranks and other confident lures but didnt get anything on them, just weeds..lots and lots of weeds. Now im starting to think of all the fish i've probably missed because I haven't used a worm. Here's another question: All the fish i've been catching have been on a wacky rigged worm (weightless). I've tried it texas rigged (weightless) and got no bites. Does texas rigging only work with weight on it?? And under what conditions would you use the weighted texas rigged worm? The lakes I fish dont have hard bottoms, its all weeds, not sure if that matters.
  25. I've never tried dropshot, then again the lakes around here aren't very deep. (not sure if that matters lol) I've never tried a wacky work as a trailer on a jig, but i've actually had a lot of luck using a KVD Caffeine shad as a trailer.
