Soft Plastics Are My Downfall...need Some Advice.
Decided to stop by the lake on my way home from work again this morning...6 fish in an hour, 5 of those on...wait for it...wacky rig senko!! Lol it was a blast. Started with weight on it and wasn't getting bites, tried weightless and that was the ticket! Wish I could've been out ther longer but had to get home to the family.

Soft Plastics Are My Downfall...need Some Advice.
This is one thing I really enjoy about this forum, I know if I have a question it will get answered and things will get thoroughly explained. Thanks for the input everyone, really appreciate it. Read every single response on this forum, and I'm definitely going to try it! Thanks for showing me that I appreciate it, learned a whole lot on it. Will definitely look into trying weighted wacky rig hooks, I've seen them just never paid much attention to them. Thanks!

Soft Plastics Are My Downfall...need Some Advice.
I've been fishing for bass for about 2 years now, and I consider myself to be a decent fishermen. I like fast reaction baits, from crank baits to spinner baits, to most recently chatterbaits. Hand me a worm...and then I'm in trouble. Last week I decided to stop by a small lake on my way home from work, didn't have all my confidence baits with me but I always carry my poles. One of my poles had a YUM 5" worm wacky rigged on it (weighted). I decided I was gonna try it out. I tried some random crank baits I had, some poppers, and nothing was biting. Set the worm up Texas rigged annnnd nothing...Decided to try wacky rigging it. Second cast in, I land a 3lb Bass! (picture attached) He swallowed the worm! I couldn't believe it I had finally done the impossible hahaha so now I'm on a mission. I want to be a better worm fisherman. I've had decent results with creature baits like the Rage Craw. Worms are my rival right now. I have a few questions, and any advice would be great. I have read a lot of the senko forums on here and they've helped out a lot. Here's something I haven't found info on: Weighted vs. Weightless When I wacky rig, what conditions call for weight and when do I go weightless? Retrieve? When I wacky rig senkos (weighted) I cast to the target, let line out so it falls freely, let It hit the bottom then jerk the rod tip up and work it back to where I am? Are there other ways that might be better? I've heard that if you are working a worm and its texas rigged, you wanna drag the worm on the bottom using the pole to move it not the reel. A quick thanks in advance, I appreciate all the help I can get to be a better all around fisherman.

Looking For Club And Co-Angler Opps In Va
I fish the Chickahominy Lake and River now and then, I live down in Newport News. I don't have a boat but I do have a kayak I fish out of. The other day my buddy and I rented a boat from Ed Allens, not sure if you've tried that yet.

Late Fall Tips Needed
I live in the same area and I've had luck with poppers in the a.m and squarebills once the topwater bite dies off on me. I fish off a kayak so its easier for me to keep moving (seeing how you are on shore) looking for those bait balls. Once I find them though I throw crankbaits near them and usually always get bites. I've started having a bit of luck on a wacky rigged senko too, something I usually have no luck on. Recently I've noticed that I'm getting most bites throwing past structures and working it near the structure, not sure why but that's where I've found them. Another place I've noticed bass hanging out is the openings of creeks, I don't think they've moved into the creeks yet.

Freshwater Guy Going After Striper...help.
Went out and caught two small stripers, still had a blast tho! Was using a white bucktail jig with a grub and I kept getting hits but no solid hook ups. At one point there were scales on the hook after the bump. Decided that they weren't committing, so I changed to a yellow grub and I caught my first striper after my first cast. We caught five in total largest being 18" I believe.

Freshwater Guy Going After Striper...help.
Going striper hunting tomorrow out of Norfolk, not really sure where I'm going, heading out with an older angler that's become a good friend. I'm thinking of using different rat-l-traps and some gulp jerk shad. Any advice would be great, definitely a rookie when it comes to fishing saltwater and stripers!

First Bowfin Story!
its really becoming one of my favorite areas to fish, that place has some quality bass. I've caught my PB there and I've only pulled out one dink from there. Looking forward to the water rising, with it being as low as it is, we can see where every lay down is.

First Bowfin Story!
This one didn't have a tag on it, hoping I can catch another one sometime at Diascund. I haven't seen any gar there, I know that day there was bait fish jumping all over the place so who knows what was chasing it. It was pretty exciting though.

First Bowfin Story!
Took my Yak out on Tuesday to Diascund Reservoir, saw some baitfish jumping so I decided to throw a crank bait next to them. First cast out there I caught about a 2 1/2lb bass. Kept seeing another ball of bait at the surface so I threw to them and as I was reeling back in I felt the vibration on the crank bait change so I set the hook and my line started running. It was awesome, I had my drag almost all the way up and the fish was still pulling line out. I had to get on land to finish landing the bowfin. Didn't have a scale but it was about 25in long. I'll post pictures up later, wasn't able to take too many pictures because the fish was exhausted and I wanted to release it safely, which I did. Just an overall great catch, my first bowfin lived up to the reputation.

Crank Bait Heartbreak...
Thanks for all this info, it is all super super helpful! I will go buy some new hooks tomorrow and maybe upgrade the body hook a size larger. I am looking into a new rod now too, researching the difference between fiberglass and graphite. So far it looks like a composite of glass and graphite, or full glass is the way to go. Any advice on this?? Also, i've heard about changing speeds of the cranks and maybe cranking faster to force a reaction bite and give the fish less time to look at the bait. Is there such thing as too fast?? Thanks again for all the help.

Crank Bait Heartbreak...
I fish out of a kayak and these last few trips have hurt my little fishing heart lol I keep getting bites but they all come off. I see the fish, they don't even jump, and they make a quick turn and boom, they are gone. I sweep to the side when I get a bite, I don't set the hook super hard because the few times I've tried I've lost the fish. Thinking it might be my rod being to stiff, what are the best types of rods for crank baits? I lost a good size Walleye this morning. Any advice would help, thanks!
