The biggest difference ?
Great advice. I have been spending time with the depthfinder trying to learn the bottom in the local lake I fish most to locate subtle points/drops and rock piles that arent visible so it will click eventually I hope. More work to do for sure. With LM of course alot of the brush, lilly pads, whatever, is more visible. I cant believe how different it is. Im learning....thanks in part to this great site and its members. Many thanks. Mark

The biggest difference ?
Anyone else switched from being brought up on LM and moving to a SM region ? What do you think is the single biggest difference in locating and catching SM vs LM ? Is it deeper water this time of year ? Thanks for your input. Mark

Typical post-spawn patterns ?
Some good stuff here thanks. Im going try to get out tonite and try a few things based on this stuff... The lake max's at about 30' and mostly SM. Ive done well earlier in 6-8 and/or even shallower with Senkos and LC jerks. Maybe I am stuck in my previous life LM mentality too much. Thanks again for any and all input guys. Mark

Typical post-spawn patterns ?
Im in Maine. Mainly SM but some LM too on the lake I fish. Water is a little high and 70-71 degrees. I did good pre spawn and spawn but was off the water for a few weeks with all the constant rain. Ive been out twice this week and feel like I have no idea where to start witht he changes on the lake water height and temp. Any basic patterns to look for that go with post spawn temps ? Im a lost dog all of a sudden. :-/ Thanks for any input. Mark

Night vs. day fishing
I'd say that you catch all sizes....the average size from my experience is a little larger overall at nite though. Jitterbugs and spinnerbaits have been my favs at nite. If you start to like it and your considering alot of nite fishing flourescent line and a black light are really helpful. Mark

Any body fish out of one of these
They work well for smaller ponds. The other thing to consider for smaller ponds is the inflatable belly boats. (tubes) The type you wear chest waders and flippers and go solo. They are alot of fun and much more effective than shore fishing IMO. Ive caught some nice fish in mine. You get a great angle for tossing worms under branches and docks BTW. Mark

if you had any doubts about big baits...
Ive caught a bass no bigger than the Muskie Jitterbug I threw out into the night. Those things are silly big....generally big bass lures too. Its all good. ;-) Mark

Anyone else fish from a pontoon boat ?
Picking up a 565 Humminbird this week to put up front. I will send the transducer in to exchange for the Trolling motor mount. Ive been spinning the unit on the console to the front when Im fishing....thats a PIA but more important it puts the transducer around 16' behind me. Been raining so much I havent been out. Mark

Best Fish Finder For The Money
JTB What is the purpose of the 'side beam' ? Is it related to marking fish or identifying terrain ? Thanks for your detail you provided on these 565's ! Mark

Best Fish Finder For The Money
I believe the 565 comes in different versions....some have the following and some dont: basic portable speed water temp TM mount Im leaning toward a 565 to mount in the front of the toon. Mark

Best Fish Finder For The Money
Is the "side imaging" strictly a function of 'marking fish' of does it help you to see/understand the terrain better ? "Posted by: Way2slow Posted on: Yesterday at 9:41pm The best "FISH FINDER" for the money is a plastic worm. " LOL. Good point. To me these units are all about being in touch with the terrain. I guess Im missing something on the 'fishfinder' part. ;-) Mark

Adding a butt seat
This is great info. Thanks. This site rocks. Do you find yourself wanting to have the ability to adjust height or are you ok with a fixed height? Mark

Is the side imaging that helpful ? Id love to hear some opinions on that. Mark

Adding a butt seat
Im considering adding one on the pontoon boat towards the front rail to rest the old back on occasion. I know I want a plate thats flat so its not a trip issue with a removable post. Is there different types that are better or worse for stability or easier to put on or remove ? I thinking gas lift isnt needed unless I find a deal...a pin style adjustment is fine. Do they drill thru the plywood floor and/or is there a plate underneath ? Can anyone tell me what they like or dislike on this setup ? Wheres the best deals ? Sorry for being so green on this. I want to do it once. :-) Mark

Looking for Smallies in RI
Try Watchaug in Burlingame Park. One of my fav ponds. You will find some if you fish a little deeper. Same for Beach Pond. I think Indian Lake has some too but in RI your going to get mostly LM as you know even in these lakes. Mark
