Non-Navigable Waterway Access
I have this same concern with ALL VA lakes. I've been told the property owners own the water, the development owns the water, no one owns the water. As a result I have not touched any VA lake at all. Supposedly a local lake put a jetty through with pipes to prevent boaters from coming in.(Lake Anna). Many private lakes in MD with security guards also. I've had to escort ahole hunters off my land a few times at gun point. They were charged and one went to jail. I avoid them mostly and wait with the cops or DNR when they come out now. I don't need that crap.

Ice fishing???
Ok...makes sense. I'd guess lcd or any new display won't work in that temp.

Ice fishing???
Dumb question what's a flasher. The batteries are mentioned. You all dump a flashing beacon in the hole?

Joining the 'real' boat crowd
I'm sure you won't but I'll mention it. DON'T SILICON TREAT THE BUNK BOARDS !!!!!! If you ever have to only do the back 2 feet. About 1.5 years now since I did and it's just starting to wear off. I figure Sep 2022 it will be good.

Ice fishing???
I have a buddy from west central Montana. He said MD clothes, boots, and gloves don't work well. All I got is heavy duckies farm stuff and insulated wolverine boots. Heck my heart probably would explode. Not curious enough to do the drive. I might try it if they have "charter" type ice fishing where your supplied with everything. Huh come to think of it the Potomac used to freeze every year in the 70s, we would drive down to watch them blast the ice flow. Can't remember when it last froze.

Ice fishing???
Given the cold, the work, ???ice, cold, blue toes I think I'll watch YouTube videos about it if at all. I can't handle float, trolling, or deep downrigger fishing anymore. I'm 35 years too old to start that stuff. Thanks. Seems it's a bit more advanced now than a beered up guy driving out on the ice..then ice go "Crack ??.

Ice fishing???
Sounds like my teenage years. A bunch of us would pool our money. Get some beer and head to the river. Build a fire party and fish all night. It was the only thing to do that we could afford. But when it was halfway warm. I don't think I can get good enough clothes in MD for it :). only one lake many two around that are safe.

Ice fishing???
Ok due to the great wizard Google I now get a ton of ice fishing info for pike and musky. Has anybody done that? It seems incredibly cold and boring. Something for younger bodies.

1st Pickerel
I was too bored. Anyway I looked up pike fishing and read 5 or 6 articles I think 4 of them recommended the lure I was using, even down to the color on 2 of them. Below is the closest picture I could find. Mine has 3 yellow beads on it 1/2oz, and a #3 or #4 treble hook. Very very well balanced. Doesn't fold up on you in the cast. I'll go back up there in May with some wire or braid leaders. I got a real nice net now so I can save some fingers. I had no idea this was a pike lure, guess the musky one beside it should have told me. Oh, I'm guessing but that longer red "hair" is the only difference. I caught more off it in two months than the previous 2 years. Mostly small mouth.

Lower back pain...
Sorry that belt pic was for my medical brace. The one I'm speaking of it the highest rated non leather weight lifting belt in sports stores. All strong elastic and velcro. It reduces disk pressure and limits your twist.

Lower back pain...
I have bad bilateral sciatica. I use a heavy flexible weight lifting back brace. I helps tremendously, plus gives you two large hooks to hang stuff on.

Looking for a unique inline Spinner.
What weight on the spinner bait? I'm in central MD. And just about everyone I spoke to hasn't had much if any luck with them. We are split between small mouth and largemouth bass, snakeheads, and catfish. Of course carp and sunny. I catch 2 #'s mostly.

Dumb pole question.
@Junger let me tag along once in the mattawon or something like that creek (tidal)and he had one. I kept wondering why as it seemed to short for his boat. The stuff he goes through he needs it.

Dumb pole question.
Wow had no idea this was an issue. I only heard of push poles for swamp use. Thanks for all the suggestions. I was just going to cut a 1x3 in half and put in some type of connector. Or use a piece of 2" pvc with a coupler. I like the T idea I'll always run aground.

#$&@! Hotel Guest
I recently stayed at a cheap hotel that lied about everything. But the worst was the room smelled like it was next to a paper mill. Gave me a massive headache. Oh well if I go up there again I'll stay at the lake/ski resort, $250.00 a night if your lucky. With a $50/day boat ramp and storage (DC and Pittsburgh clientele). Your guests sound like my neighbors.

Dumb pole question.
I run aground on mud a lot. Mostly due to wind and not paying attention. I have a extending paddle/boat hook that I've been using about 4' long. It works but a 8 foot pole would be better. I'm considering using a small tree whiteled down and stash it in the rod box, or an 8' 1x3 A collapsible one would be nice. Anyone know if they're made or even what they're called. Thanks

Trolling motor battery died - replacement recommendations?
I wouldn't recommend Everlast. The warranty is no good as the thermal ink disappears from your receipt in a year. Plus the batteries stink.

Looking for a unique inline Spinner.
I'll have to look. The only ones I find at Walmart or Dicks are the very very tiny ones. I had three lures that were the best The "mepps" type spinner Silver and black repalla Red and white headed jigs. I haven't used jigs in 20 years now. I'll have to try them again. My best spinner was a green and yellow one. I caught at least 5 bass with it hanging over the row boat in the water then the rod took off out of the boat. Maybe it's where I live or lack of skill with them but I've never got even a fish follow a spinner bait ever. These "inline" work great for me.

Looking for a unique inline Spinner.
Just a 1/2oz cabelas inline spinner or rooster tail. Gold, large sliver spinner, yellow beads,, dark "hairs" so to speak with a longer red trailer. Found in the trout/pike section. They had a musky/pike one that was about 8" long. I bought it in May then lost mine a month ago but found two more at BPS...they must be popular around here. There were 8 empty row hooks listed the same. I got the last two. I don't know if the beads are weighted. I personally have always had very good luck with this type. These 1/2oz are much better than what I described originally. Also bluegill don't seem to hit it.

How much wasted tackle?
Remember a long time ago there was this traveling tackle show with a massive see through tank of bass to sell there lures. We all bought them... Then it came out they never fed the bass. Ok OK I'll go get new glasses It's as someone posted what ever works for you.

How much wasted tackle?
Most of my softplactics turned into a big lump in the bag. The spinners are sold in the trout section and you see the tiny ones like 1/4" long all over Wal-Mart. Also known as rooster tails I use 1/2oz now.

How much wasted tackle?
Jig were my every day lure before I got the boat. Perfect on rocks. Everything except carp and eels hit them. Perfect for a kid.

How much wasted tackle?
Hey, I didn't have my glasses on. I thought it was another smiley face.. blame Android google. Yeah, it's just I don't have the right touch with the others. I've watched guys catch 4 bass on the exact same lure that I didn't get even any interest in. I'd imitate there presentation as best I could,, still nothing. I'd switch and catch 3 pretty fast. I had a crankbait that was perfect until a little 6" tiger musky crushed it (or I did with a log...long story, but it sliced a scar on my arm). I've never found it since. 1/2" black fat head shallow dive. I guess it don't help that I'm 80% color blind. I'll fill up more buckets I'm sure.
