1st Pickerel
I've seen YouTube videos on fileting them. The people doing it have a lot of practice and a very very very sharp knife. Thanks for the comment about opening the net. That's a big concern. I bought that boat (old one was a 13' aluminum) due to lak of storage space and constantly stepping on stuff. It has a ton of storage but really can't use the front. It just hit me. Maybe I can flip the lid around or screw down some milk crates inside. It only has an extra life preserver, throw ring, and 4 bumpers in it. You can still fit a 10 year old in it with ease ( the kid did it not me). I'll have to contact crestliner.

Yep...where I live it goes from 60 to 30 overnight in October or November. Rarely do you have a hint it's coming other than the wind. Forty miles east is the bay, it doesn't freeze until January. I think they've had flurries above 2500 ft.(where I caught the Pickerel) We winterize everything in the middle of October. Much easier than at 3 am 30 degrees and 30mph wind. Kinda stinks I was going to go down to southern MD again.(from the pictures even they get snow).

Thanks. I have a cx1754 2005. I might post a pic one day. It's a crappie/bass boat. It's nothing like the ones I see on there web site. A guy offered me 18k for it last July. Glad I didn't take it(I paid 14k). New anything now is 25k Crap now I want to go out again but the rivers to high and fast.

Just have to wait until spring to get one at BPS. I need a few large 3" inline spinners or whatever else they're called. Gold with speckled watermelon and red with a large sliver spinner. Caught about 10 fish off it in two months. So I'll get 3 or 4. My boats been winterized mostly now. Don't feel like pulling all the drain plugs out again and blowing out the lines and pumps.

Thanks, yall have given me a idea that should work. Stow the net part it in one of those folding chair bags(which I have one). Put it in the rod locker. Before launch take it out assemble it and tie it down with the velcro. Never occurred to me until now.

Ok..where so you stow it. I have a 2005 17' ? Can only think of the two big velcro straps on the rod lid.

Only one might fit.... Crap I saw one at Walmart awhile back that was perfect, about 12" folded and I didn't get it. My only long storage is my rod compartment. I really don't want to put a net in there. I have a 4' storage on the other side but it's full of all the take out stuff(life jacket, TM pedal, fish finder, boat hook, bow line) along with anchor, some tools. It's easy to get to before launching. I'll have to look at it. I have compartments I don't use, one because it directly under the bow seat and the hatch is so big you have to get up then on you knees to get anything. Standard crestliner 17' now 18' layout. I can more stuff into the "cooler" which I very rarely use even 1/8 of it. Ideally it would be a net I can grab with my foot on the rod and get it assembled. I very very rarely go out with another person....they talk to much ??

I'm looking for a folding net. Are there any others. I have nowhere to stow a regular net.

I'm Gettin To Dang Old for this Stuff
I agree. In this state there is no law saying under 65 have access to supplemental insurance if your disabled. Only one policy $20,000/year with a $10,000 deductible is offered. I have 8 more years to go.

Just FYI: That expensive wally world Ozark scale doesn't work at all below 3 lbs. 4lbs show 3 lbs. A 5 lb dumbell shows 4.75lbs. I figure it was 2.5 to 3 lbs. Whatta expect Fer 5.00. ?

I'm Gettin To Dang Old for this Stuff
Thanks...I'm stuck. Over 10 yrs now,Dozens of mri's ct scans ,35(yes 35 min)cortisone shots,PT, water PT. Shots produced super fast cataracts, blind for a few months, dependent on the two top strength pain stuff, off for 4 years now, saw 7 surgeons. Finally one said the odds were 0% 5 year success rate. I might have a chance in 10 years when I'm 67. Problem is it's the last disk, no way to really get to it, started 13 yrs ago. Now since on Medicare no one will talk to me. I need the supplemental insurance after 65 Bummer as if it was the next one up it would have been an outpatient procedure and I'd still be working.

I'm Gettin To Dang Old for this Stuff
I wish they would do that in MD. Bottom 2 disks herniated, bulged, dryed up. State law says no meds, docs to afraid to do anything. So I wear a brace most of the time. It stinks.

GARMIN
I had a little Garmin e trex. Something hit the display and I had a black spot for a year, it slowly progressed until it's unusable now. If they aren't touch screens can you get those small covers? I learned and now it rides in the dry storage bin wrapped in a towel. I'll get another when I figure out what I want, they aren't the easiest things to use without the manual.
-
Waypoint line up
Yep. I'm looking for a new one. My e trex display broke. They run from $100.00 to $1000.00. I just spoke to my brother I was wrong, accuracy is within. 1cm. I won't depend on my phone even with the no cell service apps.
-
Waypoint line up
Yep the government does. Originally consumer GPS was only accurate to a unusable distance. I don't know what it was. My brother is a surveyor for 40 yrs plus. He showed me there set up. A GPS rx is leveled then it sets for up to two hrs. I believe the accuracy is +/- 1 inch, maybe better. No more metal tape and plumb bobs. Just a GPS rx and a laser.

Tournament entitlement?
In regards to the ramp idiot's. I ask then if I get blown off I just go.....THEY MOVE REAL FAST. I carry dog spray with me. Never had to pull it. A guy got mad, he saw the spray with my hand next to it and took off. Must have been hit by one before. So far it's been kayaks and first time boat people. Yes I've seen them pull in straight into the water, 3 times now.
-
Tournament entitlement?
This is just me. I avoid tournaments completely. Mainly due to the traffic and the corresponding rush. I get it, you pay to get in, the competition mode sets in. But for me it's worse than a Sunday afternoon in July. Just ruins the whole vibe. I specifically go out during the week when I'm the only boat out there. Preferably overcast and spitting rain. I've turned around and went home a few times. Also just canceled a trip to Guntersville as there were tournaments every day. Where I live they have them on "small" reservoirs, maybe 3 miles by 1mile. Doesn't leave many options. Oh add to that the rec kayaks and paddle boards. It ain't worth it.

Battery Charging Too High?
I don't know if the alternator has a current regulator in it to prevent batteries from cooking or it from cooking. I wrote or emailed mercury with a question "can I rig up a system to charge both batteries on a 12/24v system without frying the alternator when I run the batteries way down" The answer was "MAYBE", According to them it depends on the serial number. I decided against it as we did it at work ( 24v mil. Comms) with a separate 24v alternator installed and we fried 3 (100 Amp draw from an inverter...don't ask, I know the numbers don't add up..let's say coffee was being made) Drop Mercury a detailed email with the year, model, and s/n. They should be able to help. Oh the system was some ganged switches to put the batteries in parallel and disconnect the trolling motor. It was a 2005 merc 50hp 2 stroke Fried 3 alternators and two military batteries exploded in the trucks bay once.

Which boat in your opinion would you say is better.
I've fished out of three types. A 13' old Wards aluminum row boat modified, a 12' narrow Jon boat, and my current 17' crestliner bass/crappie. I really didn't like the Jon boats stability, the row boat was indestructible but sailed around. The crestliner is OK just very heavy and harder to turn in area.

GPS Position...so far off?!
I've had the Same issue with my Garmin e trex before the display got broken. I really Don't know if it was off or the map was off.

Guntersville guides, fishing trips ect?
Yeah, the size is a bit of a problem right now. So far it takes at least a day for me to scope out a lake or river. I never get even the fairest of spots the first day. Guntersville is so large it would take me at least 4 days just to scope out around Scottsboro +/- 4 miles. I'm pretty sure I would have to go way upstream to get out of the tournament traffic. It's still a real bummer but I guess for the best. My boat parking place is now gone, GPS broken, and the hotel prices doubled. I've been at the state park in the early spring. Nobody out on that part of the lake and it was intimidating. I got massively lost, thank God for GPS. Yep your right, you can from the world on that lake. Hide from the world

Guntersville guides, fishing trips ect?
Well I was set and ready to make reservations in Scottsboro AL. Then for some reason "tournaments " popped into my head. Turns out there have tournaments every week for September and ones scheduled for every week in October. I don't do well in crowds, particularly tournament ones. A bit to high strung for fishing. Not to mention the ramp traffic. Plus the cost is now to high and would limit my stay to a week at the most. Bummer man...I even went on a two to three day trip locally and did better than the entire year. I wonder if that lake (Guntersville) ever has some down time other than spawn. Oh well maybe back to Deep Creek and a better hotel.

Looking for a decent hiking type GPS?
Thanks didn't know any of that. Yep my Garmin is an e-trex. The lcd display got smacked by the anchor at some point.

1st Pickerel
Thanks. I never fished for anything I'd need a steel leader on. I have some 30lb braid and it's very very hard to cut. If I go back, I'll stay an hour away. Hotel was terrible, gave me a massive headache. Thanks for the compliment it's officially my biggest ratio catch from min size to it's size. It's not a bass so not a PB ?.

Maryland's Who's who!
Correction: Chain Pickerel. Question: 30-40 years ago they put a ban on liberty reservoir due to Zebra Mussels. From what I remember if your boat went in that lake that's the ONLY WATER it could go in. I'm near Mt. Airy, can you now fish that lake then take it to blackhills, Potomac, etc?
