  1. Not on trebles, but with single point worm hooks (I'll add finesse) barbless hooks seem much easier to hook. Larger 3/0 4/0 5/0 I have yet to feel the difference. The fine-wire finesse hooks go through quite easily without barbs. And helps when oyu get yourself tangled in some trees.....
  2. I tried 4in Senkos today but the fish only nipped at the tail end and I couldn't get a hookset. They usually clobber the 4in worms... Time to downsize for me I guess.... Or maybe with the stocked trout I should try insanely huge baits.... Whichever way I go, SLOW!!! Ok, got that I was fishing a tad fast today I guess.
  3. The aftermath of getting a girl hooked on fishing is even worse. You're going to see lotsa worms 'n lures you never threw into your cart when you go to the cashier..... This & that and this & that. I swear she's worse than any bait monkey I'll ever meet!!
  4. I've been saying "one last time" too many times. I think I'm ready to go until it starts snowing 8-) And I wish I had a 4WD to go throughout the year.... I'll have to be a good boy and ask Santa and his Elves. I want a rod signed "Santa & Elf .Co" with a bright red tip! I'm going to have to start knitting soon or I won't be able to finish off my 6'6 sock before christmas!!!
  5. Am I supposed to go Slower and Smaller as it gets colder? Or Slower and Bigger?? I got confused when I read that Bass in the winter don't eat something that doesn't look "enough" to last for a while. Until I read that article I had been using smaller baits (3in stuff) with "some" success.....
  6. I just went today and promised myself this is going to be the last for this season.... It's getting darned cold... I got a few dinks (As usual) and a bunch of stocked trout (They seem to LOVE the cold...) Just as I was about ready to call it a day, I had the urge to make one last cast with a wacky rigged 2in senko (I know it's tiny, I used it on Trout). I let it fall on slack line and saw the line start to move, so I made a perfect hookset. It was a picture perfect hookset... 'til I noticed I broke my rod in two..... A 5'6 UL Trout rod to be exact... This just had to happen on the final day of the season eh..... At least I have another excuse for my GF to squeez just another day of fishing this season. "Ah... The rod broke and I'm going back for revenge" Plus an awesome excuse to get me another Bass rod if money allows!!! ;D monkey RULES!!
  7. I had been fishing with barbless hooks since the day I started Bass fishing 'til just until around August. Single-hooks are no problem. In fact I feel barbless hooks penetrate better and aid those lousy hooksets... Trebles OTOH, not an accurate number, but I've been losing about 1 in every 3 fish. OUt of the fish I lost, I can say more than 90% of them were lost just as I was about the lip them, or net them. Crouching down and having an arm swinging out to get a hold of the Bass, you're unbalanced and it's a great oppurtunity for the Bass to just shake loose. It doesn't even have to jump to shake it loose when you're in that position. If you fish barbless trebles, you might want to get your fishing partner get the net for you while you keep the Bass busy. I stopped using barbless trebles this August because I was fed up of losing fish within arms' reach... I still use barbless single hooks for worms.
  8. GYCB Flappin' Hog?? Looks like it. I have the exact same color. Costs a bundle.... But catches fish.
  9. Hmm... We still see a ton of them in stores around here... It looks better than the XT.. Oh well Thanks for clearing things up!! Seems like you guys love the Chronarch50mg so I was looking into it. Looks good. I want it, but that won't happen until at least another year ;D
  10. Oh I forgot..... A big thank you for the video!!!! Much easier to understand than words
  11. Oh, yeah so I guess that's why the drag is supposed to slip right?? Mo' power to the drag 8-) Im going tomorrow so Ill see if I can get a good hookset. No wonder I lose fish on jigs... :-/
  12. Thanks!! But why is the Scorpion Mg called ChronarchMg while the MetaniumXT is called Chronarch... I thought they weren't related in any way..... Besides, if that's what Mr.Shimano likes to name them, where did the MetaniumMg go?? :-?
  13. Ooo... Let me check my hooksets... Light!!! Time to review everything I do on the water... I guess I'm just too darned worried about the 5lb line.... Next time I'll practice with my baitcaster with 12lb so I don't have to worry about the line and concentrate on solid hooksets.
  14. All these topics about reels are very informative, and I love the fact that we get first hand impressions of a huge number of reels. What a great way to judge my next one!! (Whenever that will be) But hold it there, I'm getting myself confused with the names of the reels. US - JDM Curado - Scorpion Citica - Metanium Chronarch - ??? Why doesn't Shimano name them the same, or at least close enough to get a vague definition.... :-/ Does it have something to do with the little differences between the US and Japanese reels?? Pour in the knowledge!! (Hey Raul ) THanks.
  15. Copolymer sounds like good line for them Cranks and Jerks and Topwaters I'll have to go find it..... P-LineCX or Yozuri Hybrid... Doesn't matter which. I just want to try out a different type of line. Sounds like a happy medium between sinking fluoro and stretchy nylon.
  16. Thanks for that chart! Didn't know the lifespan of a fluro line is generally longer than a Nylon... Is the Yo-zuri Hybrid a Copolymer?? Errr... are "Hybrid" lines just "Copolymer"??
  17. I need ya to hammer in every single bit of knowledge Raul ;D ;D ;D Thanks, now I'll go put a little pressure on them brakes and stop that darned spool.... BTW, is there anything we should keep an eye on for Spinning reels???
  18. Ok, so I've put 0 pressure on the drag, 0 on the brakes and the spool wants to spin around like crazy making miniature overruns. What's a good way of keeping that darned spool from spinning around and around and around and around........ Tape?
  19. Advice can't get better than this ;D I'll have to take note of this during my next purchase....
  20. I'll try finding a copolymer line and try it next time I have to spool up some line. And while I have my currrent line I'll practice the baits and see if I can adapt to the differences. About leaders.... Wouldn't using "leaders" defeat any purpose of using that particular line in the first place? Ex. Using a mono leader on Fluro line?? I have read many people using leaders and such for braid, but it sounds to me like that is defeating the purpose of using braid/fluro, "good sensetivity" "non-stretch" aspects which mono doesn't have. I'm getting confused about leaders...
  21. I agree. He needs to go "bass fishing" with a few carefully chosen members of US Special Forces. Get him on a boat and then SEAL him ;D
  22. Can someone give me a brief introduction to Copolymer line?? Pros, Cons? I have read that using Copolymer line defeats the meaning on using Fluro line in the first place. Don't remember where I read it but I'm sure I read that somewhere...
  23. Most of those poles and retrievers don't work from the bank

I tried snaps that look like those Duolock snaps, but my Crankbaits swam wherever they wanted.... And I'm sure I tuned them to swim straight....
