  1. Hmmm... Good observation... BUt I don't wish weeds that much (Not much growing. Its BALD where I fish), and I get enough of them on my hooks when I do I'm sure I'm not fishing them right ;D I don't know if I'm willing to trade my slim chances of getting a big one to losing a couple of expensive lures every time I go out.... I'm going to smack my head every time I snag a lure for not putting those split-rings on, but I sure will smack my head for losing a fish of a lifetime due to these split-rings :-[ Still haven't made up my mind. According to the review, it seems like the split-rings will stay on the lure and is reusable. THe original cost of them might be pretty hefty for some fancy split-rings, but I am sure saving a couple of LC or MB baits will even up things a bit They look pretty big compared to whatever split-rings are used in lures. Do you think they impair action? Change weight balance etc? I was thinking of just giving them a shot, but figured that would eat up a lot of money with the shipping. I tried to find them in tackle shops over here, but I haven't found them yet.
  2. Did it give away on an average size fish? I only catch at most 2-pounders so if it gave away on a 10 pounder I guess I won't have to worry ;D
  3. That's exactly what this split-ring isn't supposed to do eh?? :-/ Ahh I'll forget about it. DOesn't sound like it's worth the effort and $$
  4. I have always wanted to make a switch to braid, but as a Bank fisherman, I have ruled out the possibility. The fact that I won't be able to break the line as easily is a major problem as I cannot move the boat closer to retrieve my lure. Right now I'm trying out a couple of Fluro lines and am going to see what suites me. I just have to remember to look for surrounding obstacles before casting ;D
  5. I just found the "Luresaver Split-Rings" and curious if anybody here has used them, and if they recommened it or not. Sounds like a dream being able to get your lure back from snags. All the other lure retriever "poles" don't work from the bank. These Split-rings might
  6. Luckycraft Japan has some http://luckycraft.co.jp/2004catalogue/29kingyo/kingyo_img.jpg It says it replicates true goldfish movement..... And is listed under Crankbaits. Couldn't find them in the US page.
  7. It's not the fact of getting hung up, but the stupid reasons I get hung up for.... Or, sometimes I just "lose" the lure. Like smacking a spinnerbait into a fence when casting and bending the arm into oblivion ;D Or trying to cut the excess line after tying your knot over the water. Cut the wrong place and "ploop" goes another Spinnerbait. Stupid mistakes that could have and should have been avoided
  8. I always lose lures I catch fish with.... I must be cursed > I'll see what I can do with the monkey now. But it still doesn't change the fact that there are always too many lures and not enough time... Thanks!!!
  9. Ooo Thanks for the great advice guys! I was always wondering about those "Shad" "Bluegill" "**fish" patterns... Didn't make sense to have so many look-alikes for fastmovers. How the heck can a Bass distinguish between those subtle differences when the crankbait goes right by it's head? I have begun to understand those subtle differences are meant not for fish, but for the baitmonkey. And it does a darn good job at it. Must be the lure manufacturer's hidden agenda. I never gave thought to that. I have always been shy of Firetiger/Chartreuse patterns as I have never seen any baitfish colored like that! I've read in articles they represent Green Perch and such, but we have none of them over here. The same for me. I primarily fish clear, at most lightly stained waters. All my lures were bought with this in mind. Back in August I went fishing to an unfamiliar pond after some severe rainstorms. The water was extremely muddy and I was in a world of hurt ;D BTW, An old geezer by the pond told me the fish don't bite as aggressively when it's muddy. Is this fact? He said something like the Bass don't hunt in Muddy water. I have had days like that, but only with soft plastics. I swapped from a black/black worm to a charcoal gray (I ran out of black) and the fish magically stopped biting. I swapped back to black/black on a different type of plastic, and the fish are biting again!! Frustruating. But it's only happened once so I can stand the chance of being skunked if I can stop the baitmonkey from wreaking havoc. If I sort the colors based on Hue... In general terms... Light -> Dark White - Firetiger/Chartreuse - Silver - Brown/Orange - Black ??
  10. I now know I don't need all the colors in the world. But what primary colors should I stock up on for Crankbaits, Jerkbaits, Topwaters? I was thinking along the lines of black, orange, silver (fish color) green/chartreuse. Would these 4 colors be good for a wide range of conditions in general? Or I am thinking too much again Trying to stock up on lures for the widest variety of conditions possible. And trying to do it with at most 4 colors of each lure.... I'm going to restock my tackle box inside-out. I used to buy whatever the baitmonkey told me I should get, but that has gone nowhere, I have 6 shallow cranks in silver-ish colors, and no black or orange types. I only have 1 mid-diver (orange) and so on. I keep on buying the same looking lures because I never gave much thought to matching various ocnditions. This is going to hurt me someday... ;D black, orange/red, silver (matching the baitfish) green/chartreuse look OK to you guys??
  11. Ahh I got the idea. Not that I hook up a fish big enough to give me any problems fighting the fish + torque ;D
  12. What's this "Torque" you guys mention? I don't use fast movers much so I guess that's why I don't understand.
  13. What should I do if.... My Old line has less than 50... I had a bad day last time casting into the wind and managed a few overruns.. I couldn't undoe it so I just cut the line and fished on. Result is the spool visible when I make a long cast. Should I just forget the idea of saving half this time and just fill the spool up with all the new line? I guess I can save half the next time.
  14. Nice Fish and Darned nice looking rod!! I think that's the rod I saw today at the tackleshop. I didn't bother looking for the price tag ;D So the next-generation rods are going to have spiral-guides?? Sounds like something good!! But I still hate the way it looks.... Well, functionality > looks so I guess I'll try it out. Those double footed guides must be a way to bring the price up.. So much for "High"-end rods..... Thanks for the quick replies!
  15. I was wondering how you guys determine the halfway point when spooling new line... I have 100ms of 12lb Fluoro and want to split it up 50/50 so I can spool my reel twice (Capacity: 100m 12lb). How can I find the halfway point?? Should I calculate the distance as in meters per turn of the handle or something?? Something that would get me roughly to the halfway point is Ok.....
  16. While looking around for a good Pixy rod, I came up to the Daiko BRSC-64L L/F 6'4 rod. Looks good with Titanium coated SiC guides and all that other fancy stuff, but the 1 feature I am worried about is the "Spiral guide" system. http://www.f-daiko.com/lure/fresh-burroughs_c/up/3-spiral.jpg What is the purpose of this, and would it affect my casting range?? It looks like a broken rod with the guides stuck on using glue. I'm aware Megabass has a model with this feature as well. Has anybody used one of these rods before??
  17. I've had some good luck these past few years during winter. And I like the cold weather so Fish or No Fish, a day outside is a day in heaven Jigs here I come!!!! ;D Again, THank you all for all that advice! I'll post again if I manage to catch anything!
  18. LOL. I plan on hitting the water next Monday.... Have entrance exams for Univ Sunday so I can't go any earlier :-X
  19. Ok, so the posts I see regarding "fishing the main channels" only applies to reserviors?? So far all the translation into Japanese is going good. LOL. I'd like to thank you all for not making a dummy out of me I really appreciate all the help!!
  20. Darn Catt you reply quick! LOL I meant Cove as in But that definition of Cover and Structure is great! I haven't given much thought to the difference...
  21. Thanks!! THat's exactly what I needed ;D Now, what's a cove??
  22. That is some sound advice there avid. Thnx alot! I hadn't thought of fishing it on tight line. I'll try that out. Should I cast a bit further from the target area to compensate for the curved fall?
  23. Cut and Fan out.... Sounds like I'll have to play around with a couple of jigs, including losing a few in the proccess until I can get that down to an art I'll try it on a couple of jigs and see what works with me. Catt and Hawgin, Your words are extremely encouraging!! Darned right I'm starting to get frustruated by them darned rubber blobs! I fish mainly little ponds so I can practice a bit. It's just that my hands works by itself. Before my mind registers it, I have a worm attached to the end of the line Wha'!? Who tied that on!? ;D Looks like I'll have my hands full this winter trying to figure out jigs. And I'll have to do that before it starts snowing. I can't drive in the snow :-[ Should have bought a 4WD.... Do you have any suggestions how a newb should fish the jig? (Easiest to hookup?)
  24. Sorry for being an idiot here, but I need some clarification on the terms you guys use... So, I'll just put aside my pride and ask. What is a.. Point? Creek? Hump? Channel? Hm.....
  25. I'll just have to ask the fish why he doesn't want to get hooked up ;D Oh BTW, I thought about it once more, and I figured maybe it wasnt the weedguards that were fouling up my hooksets.. I just remembered I couldn't set the hook when using a exposed hook as well Maybe the Jigs just hate me... OTH I never had a problem with Jighead/worm combinations on a ML Spinning setup... I was doing a sweeping motion to set the hook with the Spinning setup. Maybe I should try a sweeping hookset???
