  1. Around here, those are high alkaline content pits. Never have done great in these, but have caught fish.
  2. What everyone else said plus look for springs. Most of them around here have one or two springs that you can find by bubbles, swirling water and a water temp. change. Rogue and fluke right now would be my 2 cents.
  3. Saw this morning the betting line this week for Tiger is 10/11. You have to bet $11.00 to win $10.00. Vegas bookies really don't like him playing in tournaments.
  4. I have had reservations in the past about Tiger and the 'greatest ever' statements. Athleticism really can't be questioned. I played mini tours and a couple of PGA events in the 70's, and even though you can play with the John Daily body it is still physically and mentally exhausting to play competitive golf. Back to Tiger; Sarezan, Hogan, Palmer, Nicklaus all were incredable, BUT their records are falling like dominos. Maybe not now, but in the near future, barring injuries, he will be the greatest of all time. Only two others can I think of that dominated like he does were Wilt Chanberlain and Jim Thorpe. The talent and the numbers of people playing competitive golf are amazing and for one person to dominate like he has is beyond comprehension. IMHO he is, or will be considered the greatest of all time.
  5. 10.25, first week of Dec., 07 at Purtis Creek on Black n Blue jig n pig.
  6. Welcome to the forum! Great place to learn and to share. As far as your question: I got a storage container and a bilge pump from wally world. I think the container is 60 quart. Put a 3' piece of hose on it to fill it, then set the pump in it to aereate once in a while. Then, during the day, pump out most of the water and pump back in fresh water. Be sure to add Rejuvinate and you'll have no problems. This works great on my Coleman Crawdad.
  7. In '88 (I think) I caught a 5.50# in a small pond in sw Iowa by pulling a jig n pig off the ice in a small pocket. The next cast I caught an 8.60# bass in the exact same spot. It was Feb. 14th and I was in a float tube. So yes, it can be done! BTW, I do not miss ice out!
  8. As a GENERAL rule of thumb, try to use the lightest weight possible for the conditions you are fishing with Texas rigs and jigs. Take into consideration the wind, depth, and the targeted cover you are fishing. As far as carolina rigging, I normally use a 1/2 oz. weight, but use 3/4 and up to an ounce depending on depth, wind and grass. I'm sure others will have suggestions as well, so you'll just have to experiment and let the fish tell you what and how they want it.
  9. Just read Tom Redington and Jeff Kirkwood's reports and do what they say. Honestly, that's probably the best truthful advice you'll find.
  10. I might have had a bump on a split shot fluke in 18' of water, but with the wind, it was hard to tell. It, I was in the brand new, shiney, 1989 Tracker with the super powerful 35 horse Merc. ;D I pretty much camped out on a deep creek junction trying to catch just one fish.
  11. Just an update on Bone Creek. Had a jackpot tourney there last night. 68 degrees when I left Pittsburg, 45 when I got back home. I think there were about 28 boats, water was 46, and I THINK I heard that someone caught A fish. I'm not positive about that though.

It's ironic that they didn't change the rules of basketball for the top 9 players of all time. :
  17. Wrangler Anglers for me. Comfy and inexpensive.
  18. "Ice Out".....I do not miss that short phrase at all. Pond fishing was pretty good after ice out in SE Nebraska and SW Iowa though.
  19. 22nd works for me, I have a tournament in Texas the 29th.
  20. A suggestion ONLY! The way the weather looks, the water is not going to warm up any this week. It was 39 to 41 Saturday. If we want to have a chance to catch any fish, I would suggest hitting one or some of the strip pits around here. There is one good one (unit 8) that is less than five miles from Pittsburg that could handle up to 4 or 5 boats. If there are going to be more people show up, there are several around West Mineral that are good fishing and could handle more boats. I am in no way trying to hijack the organization of this get together. I am merely suggesting alternative locations where we might have a CHANCE of catching a fish or two. No matter where we go, with the exception of Coffee Co. or LaCygne, the odds of catching anything are going to be pretty slim. And those lakes will be packed. I'll go along with the thoughts of you all.
  21. All right, here's what we got coming up this week for highs and lows: Today.......33/20 Tues.........36/26 Wed..........45/24 Thurs........38/25 Fri.............44/22 Sat............50 The water is not going to warm up with every night below freezing. ?????????
  22. Don't get excited! Got there about 8:30 and fished till noon. Water warmed up to a balmy 42 degrees. Only fished 3 areas that are decent winter/early spring spots. I might have had one bump on a fluke in 18' of water. Water has good color, not too clear and not too murky. It is at full pool with water running out the overflow by the dam. I fished hard and s-l-o-w for the time I was there. If I had fished any slower, moss would have started to form on my jig, rogue and fluke. With the way the weather looks, I would guess the water MIGHT be in the mid 40's by next weekend. I don't care what y'all want to do. If you want to fish, we'll fish, if you want to postpone it a week or two, that's fine as well. Sorry I didn't have anything better to report.

I much prefer the strippers, but my wife would rather I go after smallies. ;D Smallies are cheaper, anyway.
  24. Hey Val, you can always come over to Bone Creek, I noticed you have me down for Mo. but I'm not sure yet.
