  1. Thank you for the added input! I have read up a lot on the Diawas and have seen that their mag breaks are very forgiving, so maybe one of those would be a good thing to try as well. Honestly I haven’t had a definitive idea on whether to try lefty or righty. I’ve heard if you reel with your left with a spinning, then you should reel a baitcaster with your right. But then again with the playing of different reels in stores in the past, I really haven’t been able to pinpoint which way to go without actually using them and seeing which I like better! I’ll shoot you both a pm, and maybe I’ll only need a rod! That would help immensely, and I cannot thank you both enough!!
  2. The kastking definitely looks interesting! The dual braking system also looks beneficial for a beginner to help reduce backlash. However if I go that route I’ll have to definitely get the rod from Cabelas. Interesting ideas, and it still looks like the Cabelas combo wouldn’t be too bad either
  3. Thanks for the options! With the lews, I really wish I could bump up a little, but the top of my budget in itself is a bit much, the only way is if I can get a little extra from somewhere or if there’s say a coupon code of some sorts I can use to bring it down. It’s lookimg like if I stick with Cabelas and bass pro that I should maybe wait until the spring sales next month. But then again, if something out there now would work well for me I’ll jump on it! Still open to any suggestions or ideas. I did see that used reel yesterday, but then again when it comes to buying used, I’m not exactly sure with what I’m getting and I don’t have the initial warranty or return period if I have problems.
  4. I am looking at getting my first casting combo, and have put a few hours into reasearching what’s been recommended in the past (bunch of stickied posts and threads), and have boiled it all down to a few questions. My budget is $100, and not a penny more, as that’s all I can set aside pretty much till at least June (end of this semester) as I’ve got way too many expenses to afford much else, and even then I’ll probably not be able to have anything more. Also, I really cannot afford anything at the moment, but I have decided that I need to get out and fish more, and learn how to use a casting reel, and I can’t let school take away the fun in life! But I do know I cannot go over $100 as I need to be responsible haha! Part of the budget is $20 in Cabelas gift cards so that’s the main reason why I’m trying to find something that they’ve got. So all in all, I’ve got $94 to spend because of taxes, unless I fall into some more or a hand me down from someone I know to throw at my first casting outfit! After all of my reading, the main recommendation that I found was to absolutely not go cheap because it’s harder to learn on budget equipment. I guess that’s not something I can follow haha! So, what I’m left with is to buy used, or go with budget new. And I have kind of decided to go new because I absolutely do not want to get burned buying used, and it makes me nervous that I’ll buy someone else’s problem! Looking at what Cabela’s has, I have somewhat thought the Abu black maxx and Cabelas pro qualifier combo is what I should go with. I like the idea of the Cabelas rod warranty if I have any problems, and the reels I have read are tolerable, depending on if you can get used to it. I won’t be able to upgrade anytime soon in the next couple years till I’m out of school and have a stable income, so I need something that will last! So, do you guys/gals think this combo could be trouble free for a couple years? Will it be good enough to learn on without encountering too many problems to push me away from a baitcasting setup? Will this cheaper reel be more prone to the awful backlash that I’ve read all to much on? I’ve got some 10lb pline floroclear to put on it, and I hope that it’ll work otherwise ive gotta work line into the budget as well. I don’t want to waste what little I can put into something, but I also really want to try the bait casting setup as I read everywhere that’s the way to go! (Yes, I am pretty new to bass fishing with the past summer being my first getting into it). Overall I guess the question is, would it be worth it or would it be a disappointment and scare me away? I really do not want to be pushed away from casting setups, as they are what I would like to start using. Otherwise, I know there’s an unlimited about of knowledge here, and there very well may be another option! If there’s any input or recommendations that you’ve got, I’ll be glad to try anything out, thanks!
  5. When did that deal come around? I remember the 4 for $10 deal but not a 10 for $10!
  6. Wow, some really interesting pictures here! I wonder if I could get some hooks into the bio labs here on campus and check em out!
  7. Wow I would’ve loved to get one of those!
  8. Just saw these at a local store, and I found that I can get them for pretty cheap! They look to be alright for the price! I tried a search but only came up with a couple very old posts, so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with them as a finesse style jig as most of the ones I have are fairly heavy.
  9. The Yum dinger in a bubblegum lemon swirl can have its days! I used to use the Tiki stick in bubblegum, but I can't find them anymore! If anyone has a way to get them, let me know! Have a couple left, and here's the last empty bag!
  10. Watermelon red flake, watermelon red flake, did I mention watermelon red flake? All jokes aside! I'd go with watermelon red flake, bubblegum lemon (believe it or not! Have to use them because the tiki sticks are no longer made), melon pie, watermelon pearl, and a black blue of some sorts!
  11. Here's a few from the past few weekends! Got my pb smallie for at least fir length, didn't get a weight on her, but she was a tank even though spawned out! And a nice largemouth 100yards away the following weekend. 19" and 20.25" respectively. Big shoutout to @roadwarrior for helping me out!! On jigs!
  12. I haven't gotten mine yet. Checked the rebate tracker and it says it's not found. Wonder if they lost it! Did anyone else have this problem? Really want that $40 back!
  13. Wow! Find those on eBay as well?
  14. I fish pretty much exclusively Yum Dingers, and my favorite color by far is watermelon red flake. Even if it's a slow day, I know I can throw one on weightless Texas rigged, and I at least won't be skunked for the day!
  15. I'm on the other end of the spectrum as well! If I would put everything together, I might be able to fill a 3700 box, and it would definitely not be stuffed! Haha! There's so many things I'd love to try, and wish I could afford to use, but I make do with what I've got and try to have some success. Maybe someday I hope to be in your shoes, but I'm just starting out, and get by with what I've got!

Might be a Yum Dinger? I believe the gander mountain branded senkos have the slot as well
  17. Was hoping to have checked everything out this weekend, but received some unsettling news on Friday afternoon, and never had the time. I'll hopefully get in contact with Sieberts this week and stop at fleet farm to check out the pad crashers!
  18. Also, for the trailers, I have a pack of havoc dark brown craws. Would these work fairly well on almost anything? Or should I pick up a pack of something a little different?
  19. Wow, thanks for all of the replies! Some great info! It it sounds like definitely Siebert's is the most recommended. I'll try to get in contact with him to see what it maybe will cost for a couple two-three shipped to my door if I can afford them, and what colors he thinks would be the best. I also see strike king and booyah jigs mentioned a couple of times. Are their bitsy jigs going to be large enough, as I usually have only seen them in a 1/4 oz I believe. The third option that a lot of you guys recommended was making my own with boss jigs and skirts. I looked it up, and it looks like there's a very popular fishing skirt site that was mentioned (I'm not sure if I can post their site, so I'll play it safe!) that has everything that I would need. Would it be worth it to make them for 2.50-3$ a piece instead of just buying a couple strike king or booyah jigs, or a little more for Sieberts? Are the hooks and weed guards going to be much better? It looks like I was spot on with the pad crusher frogs. I'll see if I can find some locally to check them out in person and maybe pick one up. I was thinking maybe the bullfrog color? Second, would I be better off getting the popping version or the regular style? I'll probably only be able to get one if I can find them, so if one is a little more versatile than the other one, I'll go that route! Thanks for all of your help everyone, can't thank you enough! Love this forum! Tight lines
  20. Hey everyone, been lurking here for a while, and finally decided to create an account and join this awesome community! First and foremost, I'm looking to get a few jigs, but am unsure where to start! I've read lots of previous topics, and none of them address my question exactly, or not recently. I'm looking to get some jigs, preferably not very expensive. I've started to fish for bass more and more ever since I was exposed to the sport, but I just don't have very much money for a lot of gear. I now love to fish, but just can't afford very much. I have an extremely tight budget, and when I say tight, I mean it! With school payments and everything else, it's hard to afford anything. To say the least, I'm dead broke! For jigs, I would like a couple that work well in mostly any conditions. I usually fish lakes with lots of reeds, weed flats, and sand (Wisconsin lakes, so not the most prime of areas, but still great fishing to be had!) and a couple rivers. It looks like by what has been recommended in the past is generally black/blue and pumpkin/browns. I'm thinking of getting each of these colors in maybe a 3/8 oz. I am thinking it would be a good middle of the road weight that I could fish in shallower and if need be deeper water. For as far as brands, it looks like just about everyone recommends Mike's jigs, Siebert Outdoors or Northstar Custom Baits. I would love to get some jigs like these that everyone swears by, but with shipping and everything, it's looking like they are out of my budget. Would love to have a huge selection to choose from when I'm on the water, but it's not feasible. Are there any good but cheap brands that I should look into? Also, I'm also looking at getting a frog or two to try out. Looks like pad crashers and live target frogs are the way to go, but again, are there any good cheaper options? Any help would be very much appreciated, as I'm a little stuck at the moment. Thanks everyone, and tight lines!
  21. Hmm, interesting, but I don't think they see that kind of stress in the water. Now the husky jerk on the other hand... That's another story. I can't tell you how many I've had that have literally snapped clean in half in the river for walleye in the spring. Even brand new ones after only a couple casts. Emailed Rapala, and they wouldn't do a thing, said that it was odd, but they wouldn't do anything. Storm Thundersticks for me now!!
  22. I'm looking into these two units for my kayak, and I'm not sure where to go. If you had to choose between them, which would you pick and why? I'm new to open water electronics, and can get a decent deal on either of these, just not sure which one to go with.
