  1. This happened today and is one of those "You ain't gonna believe this sh.." stories. No BS............ after this morning my Airrus Spectra is 6'11" instead of 7'. It was mostly my fault and I'm just going to put a new tip on the rod. I hooked a mudfish that weighed 8 - 9 lbs this morning. It appeared to be barely hooked in the side of the mouth. When I got the fish wore out and next to the boat & to save having to re-tie a new hook (us hicks are lazy) I lowered the rod and tried to shake the hook out. But low and behold that bastage mudfish got a third wind and jumped up and bit the tip off of my rod. It all happened in less than 1 second. All I could do was laugh at my own stupidity and the mudfish's guts. On the good side I caught 18 bass (5 between 6 1/2 lbs and 10 lb 3 oz). (even my camera is wrong...date should be 5-22) Stay tuned for the Next episode of "Gomer got a Boat"..................... ;D
  2. TD-X 103HSDL on a telescoping 7'6" (heavy/fast) G-Blanks rod w/20lb Fireline (breaks @ 54.5lbs or 273% of rated strength = strongest braided line made). 8-)
  3. If you got the fish fishing in my boat you would need all of that nutrition to re-coop from that long swim and even longer walk back with the fish to your truck ;D ;D
  4. I have a Diawa TD-X 103HSDF on that and a Zillion 100SHA on the Spectra. It balanced out well and feels like an extension of the arm over a days fishing time. I use graphite and composite rods for different purposes myself. Graphite is much better suited for use in open water situations (finesse baits, crankbaits, etc..) because it is much more brittle than a composite rod. With the technology that has come into the sport and used in rods in the last few years it would take a machine to tell the difference in sensitivity between the two. Composite rods are better where power is needed (heavy cover) and graphite rods are better in situations where you will be moving baits & casting faster just because of the weight difference. The only exception to me would be the use of heavy baits and then the composite would win in all situations. This is just my opinion and some may have a different outlook on it. I wish you the very best with whatever your choice is, Dave
  5. The only fish that are allowed to be kept anywhere around me are ones that may have swallowed the hook and are bleeding. It does happen once in a while I don't eat any type of fish or seafood myself anyway.....(beef & pork only for me...... no yardbird either). When I was a guide in the 80's I had to allow the customers to keep one fish if they desired by my employers rules and sometimes it broke my heart because of my love for the sport. Big fish spawn big fish. I have only had two fish mounted and that was over 20 yrs ago (11 3/4 & 12 1/2). I do hope that if someone does keep fish that they choose to keep only fish 1 lb - 3 lb so that the larger fish will multiply for their children's children to enjoy just as they have. Now that bass fishing has become "cool" and the sport has grown so rapidly it has had a negative effect on the bass population in the more high pressured lakes/rivers. As someone who has fished only for bass for close to three decades I have noticed the decline in the bass population first hand here in FL. A picture with a nice frame is much cheaper than a mounted fish and gets a lot more respect from me. "A picture can be worth thousands of baby bass in the future!" just my .02
  6. I had to vote $200 - $300 because I'm addicted to the Diawa TD-X reels (5 - mostly HSDF), + 1 - Zillion 100SHA, and 1 - TD-ito 103M. My retired fleet consists of several different Diawas and 1 Shimano Citica. I am a diehard Diawa baitcaster fan and have been using them since the PL series came out 20+ yrs ago(I've never owned a spinning reel). But it doesn't matter if you use a Zebco 202 as long as it works for what you want and makes you happy it's all Great! (Edit: OOPS - I lied........I have some kind of spinning reel in the closet that has never been out of the box that I got as a gift yrs ago )
  7. Welcome !! (WARNING: Bass fishing is highly addictive. It can also be hazardous to any personal relationships that you may be in and your current financial status.)
  8. I have an Airrus Spectra and Ultra XL. They are both Great rods and I have a Puls-R that will be delivered next week. Airrus has the Best warranty on rods that there is (period), no $50 charge like Loomis. There are Loomis GLX - IMX, Kistler LTA, Allstar, and about every other kind of rod known in my home. The Airrus blows them all away IMHO. Maybe thats why they have recieved the Best of Show award over all of the rest at the ICAST show 4 yrs out of the last 5 yrs. Look at their site and give Ken a call. You will get him personally, not some flunky and he will answer any questions that you may have. G. Blanks is another great rod. I have a 7'6" flipping rod that is flawless enough that I bought a 6'10" mh 2 days ago to go with a new TD-ito 103m. Only negative is the 1 yr warranty.
  9. Bass are dumb? We are the ones out spending thousands of dollars and countless hours trying to catch them...then when we do catch them we throw them back..... ask 99% of women who is looked on as the dumb one - the bass or the man
  10. I have never seen a boat I can't get registered in FL and I have done a whole bunch of them without paperwork over the years (and recently). Write yourself or have a friend write you a bill of sale for $50 for an abandoned or salvaged boat with no name brand on it, just the length and material it's made of. Then just tell them at the county tag office that you spent a few months rebuilding the boat and get a homemade title for it. A good idea is to also take it to a near by landfill or other certified scale so that you have a verified weight slip in hand (some places ask for this and they usually charge a $5 fee for the weight reciept and scale use.) If you have any questions or if you just want to sell it pm me. Tennsopher has a 9' Bass Hunter type boat and I fish with him once in a while in it. That little boat is pretty comfortable and goes places I couldn't even get a jonboat (+ he catches as many or more big fish than I do in my big boat.) But he hauls it in his pickup because those trailers with the little wheels would be useless on the lakes that he fishes in the swamps here. my .02
  11. Have you looked at Airrus? Ultra XL model = UXLC681MH 6'.8" Fast Med Heavy 3/8 - 3/4 10 - 20 lb 1 $159.95 (and a better warranty than Loomis - Airrus only charges shipping cost for replacement if something happens).
  12. There is about every kind of highend & mid range reel made by all of the makers here in our home (30+ USA & JDM) and all of the highend rods are represented also (Loomis, Kistler, G-Blank, Airrus, etc...) (I'm looking for a Steez 100H if anyone has one laying around pm me) Right now out of them all the best combo so far I've used together is the Zillion 100SHA on a Kistler 6'6" MH Helium LTA (I am going to try it on an Airrus Puls-R that Ken is shipping to me the week of 5/21). Casts a mile and smooth as a babies .... It's now my go to set up for big fish. I don't use any line lighter than 17 lb test and I don't throw small lures/baits either so it may be different for those who do. my .02
  13. There is a big difference between glasses. A cheap lens is like looking through a kaleidoscope to me. Buying cheap eye protection and expensive tackle is a good sign of someone that's a few cans short of a sixpack. If you ask 90% of optometrists they will tell you that for fishing or watersports that "Revo H20" sunglasses (prescription or not) are the very best in the World. Super light hand made Italian Titanium frames and 100% UV protection polorized lenses that are a step above all others.

I guess because I spent 6 yrs @ UF I'll have to settle for the Gators ......... Maybe in ? yrs you can have one too (not) ;D Any way you slice it the SEC is the toughest division in college sports (period)! (if you don't believe me ask Ohio )
  15. Those are AudioMobile Mass 12"s (36 lbs each & the GroundZero Nuke is 65 lbs). The RF amps are older than the BD series...... they are an 1100a2 and 800a4. Line drivers are a good add on & they don't take really any pwr at all to run. You need to ride in my boat sometime, it prob does 120-125...........not bad for a bassboat, but not like the ski boat we did for Shaq. An ex Orlando Magic player is a part owner of the shop I do sound out of, so we do a lot of NBA & NFL players vehicles from accross the country.
  16. LBH - I made a cheap box w/ 6 - $25 6" speakers from rad shack and got them to hit 150 db in a Pathfinder on bet it couldn't be done. All of the items in my Jeep are pre-2000 if you are calling that old school.....(da.. that makes me feel old, I guess @ 46 I'm ancient school ) (the jbl gtq400 & earthquake are mounted on the rear of the seats and not in these pics) (note: those bat straps are red/white/blue....not rainbow )
  17. Just go over to that link I posted and they will tell you how to wire those 3 subs to 2 or 4 ohm. It's not hard to do.
  18. I have heard a lot of claims from companies but never seen any amp run very stable or long @ 1 ohm. We call them toasters because of that. What do you need a 1 ohm amp to run anyway? If it's multi subs you should just wire them to become 2 or 4 ohm. Then you can find a lot of cheap good quality amps on e-bay. For good info on this subject or any car audio related subject try here: http://www.sounddomain.com/ubbthreads.php
  19. Hey Bro tennsopher is a straight up bass fisherman and just about a living textbook on all subjects related to it. We fish together a lot and even on the worst days it's still enjoyable (even if he is a TN Fan).
  20. Sorry for the delay...(chasing gas for the boat ) You just have to be careful not to ground it out when removing it. I take and wrap electrical tape around each post as I remove the wires is all. Try running it without the cap now that you have a good alt. and see how it does, you may be surprised. Now off topic: What do you think of Airrus Rods? I just bought a Spectra and Ultra XL. (both mh).
  21. Yes it will lose pwr holding capability after a while....it's just a bunch of lead plates. That's why I use the 1 farad caps..... cheap to replace a bad one. And unless you are driving the subs hard you should never really need one. edit added: be very careful removing a cap even if you think it is bad.... they can hurt you quick and before you trash it stand back and throw it in 5 gal bucket of water so it doesn't hurt anyone else.. and most people don't realize how loud 130db is. Yours prob sound better than mine.
  22. That's the same van...... it was built in 02 and is at most big shows. I listen to mostly sq like you and that's why I mixed in the 12's to listen to 99% of the time @ very low good sound. I got into it by mistake really. I went to SBN (45 min away) just to look in 1998 and bought a $10 ticket that has ended up costing me $?????????????????????.00 :) I saw the vehicles and just had to have one....................that's why the nic "badhabit". I take every hobby to extremes...........boy's and their toys .... :o wanna buy a $10k pool cue? (just joking - it's not for sale)
  23. I've done some install and design. One build even made the cover of DUB a couple years ago (Anthony Carter's Hummer H2). Our Astro Van does 167db (just a show van not comp.... 36 x 12" Crossfire BFL's w/12 kw of Crossfire amps and sponsored by Crossfire). If you have ever attended Spring Break Nationals you have seen it. Way too much to list here in this one( over $100k in mods). My tow vehicle (Grand Cherokee) does 158 db (SPL/SQ vehicle DBdrag & IASCA). 2 - AudioMobile Mass 12's run by a RF 1100a2 amp (bridged 1300w), 1 - 15" GroundZero Nuclear (euro model & more SPL than 3 Mmats 15" Drednaught's) run by an EathQuake PHD2 Shredder (2kw). 4 - Orion HCCA 6s mids run by a RF 800a4 (1024w), 4 - 6" Waveguide horns run by a JBL GTQ400 (800w bridged), 4 -Audio Control EQT's, 1 - Audio Control 4xs, 240 amp Ohio Generator Alt., and a fleet of Optima Yellow tops (with 1 farad caps and Clifford alarm system + much more............). Rock on..................................
  24. I fish 4 - 5 days a week. Cost = approx. $1k per month (gas, oil. replacement tackle, and boat maintenance - boat is paid for). So you must love it as much as I do............................ follow me to the free cheese line ->
