  1. Have been looking for a good deal on a Tacoma or a Frontier for the past four months and the right deal finally came through!!! Got myself a 2006 Nissan Frontier w/18K miles in awesome and I mean awesome shape for......$15K out the DOOR!!! No financing straight cash deal.
  2. Hunting-Dove, Duck, Deer, Turkey, and Hog Running-ran the Miami marathon 2 years ago, but have knee problems now so mostly gym running. Video Games- love Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Madden Aquariums Going to get back into archery this year. Too many hobbies not enough time, but if I had to pick one it would be FISHING, hands down. ;D, hats off to Bat guy, good ones cost a small fortune.
  3. Any news about muck removal projects on the Big "O"? I remember reading somewhere that the State was going to try to restore some shorelines during the low water levels, but haven't read anything since. I think that we should have a bass boom here in another 2/3 years.
  4. Your making me jealous :'(
  5. Click this link http://myfwc.com/fishing/pdf/Exotic%20Fish%20Identifier.pdf
  6. Not rumors, Snook are in there and throughout various other S. Florida Canals, as well as Tarpon. I've been fortunate enough to catch both. I never targeted them specifically I was fishing for either Peacock or Largemouth. Same techniques work. Caught my tarpon on a Tiny Torpedo and have caught snook on everything from rattle traps to x-raps.
  7. S. Florida Canals, especially the Tamiaimi, are chalk full of.......DRUM ROLL PLEASE...Mullet. Yes, mullet and they are quite the jumpers. Only way I have ever caught them is using a cast net, which I don't recommend especially in S. Florida canals unless you want to be repairing it, due to sharp coral rocks. Multiple jumps in a short period of time are typical of mullet and they usually are headed in one direction. Here is an interesting article on why mullet jump. http://www.amonline.net.au/fishes/faq/mullet.htm
  8. I had same "isolated problem" I have both exact reels and would give the nod to ....drum roll please............SHIMANO
  9. :-?, when did using braid become following the crowd? Anyway, some of you old school fellows here that have only tried braid when it first came out are missing the boat. IMO it has evolved from a disaster waiting to happen (twisting around guides, cutting into itself, making better knots than you, fraying, etc.) to a must have option. I too hated Powerpro/Spiderwire with a passion and still do, but some of the newer braids are way better. Try Stren Superbraid or Suffix and see what you think. As far as frogging with a St. Croix legend and braid, what are you afraid of? If my little finesse G. Loomis slate can handle it then your St. Croix legend should have no problem. Make sure you don't crank your drag down too much and no more swinging for the fences hooksets. Your hookup ratio should increase especially fishing the slop and you don't have to worry about breaking off. Now get yourself a spool of Superbraid 40/50# and catch a slop monster with that Croix.
  10. Got both reels. Fished the Zillion exclusively today, be it with a Frog. Hmmm, as far as cranking power its seems like a larger cranking handle 89mm would give the Zillion a slight advantage. I also like the swept handle, but not sure if it gives more cranking power. The HLC is one sweet looking reel, approaching the weight of the Core, but I don't think its worth the extra price. Go with the Zillion.
  11. My cousin is getting married in Pittsburgh in January, dumb***! Anyway I love the guy and will be his best man. Tried to get him to go to Montreal and he was game, but none of his friends could commit. So now I am headed to Pittsburgh and was planning on showing him a good time. Do any of forum Pennsylvanians have any suggestions for entertainment (i.e. Adult nightclubs, cool bars, limo services) ? Thanks in advance.
  12. Driving up to West Palm Beach tomorrow morning to do a little a BASSING. Going to try some of my new goodies (Cumara Rod, Zillion, Bully Wa Frogs). Will be going out on a Jon Boat in a private community, place is full of BIG'UNS and dinks, you never know. Should be done by noon. SYFER has been there once and has seen the evidence. I know its a short notice, but if any fellow forum members are interested send me a PM before 6 AM.
  13. I just got mine on Christmas Eve, but have yet to use it. Very nice, heard it uses a G Loomis blank, but mine had a made in China label :-/. I'll see how it fishes, bought if for my frog rod 7'2"MH model. Going to put a Shimano Metanium on it.
  14. Hmmm, I find that interesting. I think it is good to offer alternative choices, suggesting other reels from different manufactures to posters. It doesn't hurt and may actually end up being a better choice for that particular poster. Of course you want to give advice on similiar category reels (e.g. Don't say get a Steez when someone wants input on a Citica, but a Daiwa Black Widow II would be a nice "alternative"). I too am partial to Shimano, but I still own a Revo Premier and just got a Daiwa Zillion and have had other manufacture models in the past. Same goes with Rod choices. Ultimately, posters shouldn't be forcing their reel of choice down others throats, but an alternative choice should be welcomed or ignored by the questioning poster if he already has his mind made up. Just my 2 cents
  15. I know for sure you need LEADER. I snook fish alot and some of those pilings are pretty sharp and braid doesn't stand a chance although you would assume it would be more resistant. I like using fluorocarbon leader (pline or yo-zuri) and have found two great knots that work joining the braid to fluorocarbon. A bimini twist to bristol knot and a Uni to Uni both are great knots. Lately, I have been using the uni to uni more because of its simplicity, but I think the bristol to bimini test higher. The only lure I don't use leader on is a hollow body frog. All other lures get leader when fishing braid usually use 3-4 foot and sometimes more 6-8 if fishing clear water or fish are spooky.
  16. Offseason? Boy, I am glad I live in Florida . First, I clean every guide seat and guide with a damp cotton swab and an old soft toothbrush. If a guide catches any cotton from the swab I get it replaced. Then I rub rod and guides down with a very damp soapy cloth, then a damp cloth with no soap, and finally dry the rod with a dry towel. Same goes for the reel seat. Lastly, I spray the rod blank and guides with silicon spray and rub down with a cloth to a shine. If it works for saltwater rods. I think it will work for winter storage. I still have an old Kunnan rod that is in excellent shape after many years of saltwater and bass fishing. I don't suggest spraying rod down under pressure which I see people do all the time. It can get under the guide foot and start bubbling the finish.
  17. I am buying St. Croix stock. Congrats man, too bad you can't go out and slay them. Take a vacation with some of that bonus money down to FL and fish the spawn ;D.
  18. Yeah, Kelly was on FIRE. I think he said in all his years of tournament fishing he never did that, nor did Boyd ever see anything like it.
  19. I have a Revo Premier and a Japanese Core (Shimano Metanium Mg/Core 100MG) and do yourself a favor and get the CORE/Metanium. If you want to save some MONEY you can get the Metanium from japantackle.com. You can possibly find it for a little less, but japantackle.com does a great job of backing up none domestic warranty work if you ever need it. Ever think of the Daiwa Zillion? Happy shopping
  20. Rod: Custom G.Loomis MB783 Reel: Shimano Metanium MG Line: Stren Superbraid 40lb w/P-Line Fluorocarbon Leader where applicable 1. Tru-Tungsten Jig 2. Megabass Deep-X100 Crankbait 3. Yamamoto Senko 4. Lucky Craft Real Skin Pointer 5. Luck ''E'' Strike Rick Clunn Trickster Spinnerbait
  21. I appreciate it bud, I've been watching the show religiously since I DVR it. Anyway, I am kind of pulling for Boyd, but I doubt he will win. I also can't believe how much of a jerk Clausen has been throughout the season with his antics of cutting the line and admitting he would do anything to win.
  22. Called *** today to check status of my order and guess what? My Dobyns rod is on backorder >. Me being impatient asked what they recommended. Sales guy explained to me that Lamiglass rods actually makes the Dobyns rods and they are HEAVY, as in weight. HMMM I thought, so I asked what he suggested and he said "Cumaraaaaaa", ahhhh a Shimano Cumara a stealthy looking beauty. Long story short I asked him to compare that rod to a G. Loomis frog rod so he went out and came back with the verdict . The Cumara was 2 oz. lighter, SOLD! So now I have a different frog rod combo :-?. The Zillion will be go on my 6'6" MF St. Croix Avid and my Shimano Metanium will take on Frog Duty. I'll see how it plays out cause it gets here Christmas Eve and I am going fishing the 26th. By the way anyone here own a 7'2" MH Fast action Cumara?
  23. Let me tell you something about the Spro 65. It is a HOG catcher down here in S. FLA and I am not talking about just fishing the thick stuff. I have caught well over 100 or more bass with the Spro frog and yes I have some bad ones that sink, some that ripped, but all-in-all if you stick to it, get use to delaying before the hookset, and use the correct tackle and presentation you are going to catch some BASS. I always trim the skirt a bit on my frogs one side a bit longer, I also paint the hook eyelet black. Its not a gimmick lure and it beats the pants of the some other brand frogs I've used (Snag Proof Moss Master and Bobbys Perfect). If you guys want to try another good frog try the Swamp Donkey. It floats a little higher and flat. I ordered some of River2Sea's Bully Wa lures the other day and I will see if they can compete against Spros/Donkey. Swim frogs are a different story, sometimes the bass like them better sometimes they don't. Oh, by the way just because something goes on sale doesn't mean it sucks . If that were the case then Shimano Curados must really be horrible since Shimano is giving $50 back on purchases
  24. Under 20K for a used boat. Hell's Bays are nice but a bit too specialized for flats fishing. I was thinking more along the lines of Hewes, Pathfinder.
  25. Who here is watching Ultimate Match Fishing? I can't wait to see if Boyd can pull an upset with the two hour free fish. I still think Luke got the short end the stick by getting caught with 6 fish in the live well during the quarter finals.
