  1. My parent's have a 25 foot pontoon boat and I am trying to get a new battery for him. I really do not know much about this stuff and was hoping to get a specific recommendation from someone on a battery that will do the job but stay at or under $100. I have attached a photo of the current one we are replacing. In the past he has bought what he called just a normal "starting battery" and that he saw no need for a deep cell or something. Any advice or current sale someone could point me towards would be great. Thanks!
  2. I use the same hooks on my 1.5's but I put a 4 on both front and back. What is the thought process about putting a 2 on the front versus the back or vice versa?
  3. The clear latches are known to break. The black ones are where it's at. The original 3700 model.
  4. The Plano 3700 with the "better" black latches are SUPER cheap at Academy right now. Like 3 bucks a box. I bought like 14 of them LOL
  5. I have hardly ever seen arky jig heads in store with or without weed guards. Many options out there?
  6. I have a few and really like them! My only complaint is sometimes it takes a bit for the blade to start up. Not sure if it is due to the design or something I do it. Normally I give it a good jerk when I start the retrieve and I'm good.
  7. I go to Roger's all the time and talk to Dave. my question goes back to a few weeks ago when I asked for a recommendation on why size hook to use with some 9 inch worms. I certainly expected to get a lot of many different opinions as to what STYLE of hook to use but I was SHOCKED to read all the different size recommendations! I thought that was something that would have a pretty standard answer but it was FAR from it. I wanted to make a decision for myself if there was so much variance in the answer I got back.
  8. It is easy enough to understand the different styles of hooks such as EWG, round bend, straight shank, etc.. But what about the sizes? Other than it is larger what makes a 4/0 different than a 2/0? Is the shank just longer? Is it the distance between the hook point to the shank just greater? Both? I looked online for a diagram and didn't really find anything. This is something simple that I feel I should have a better understanding of and wanted to see if anyone could help. Thanks!
  9. I am looking for a 1/4oz black arkie style jighead with weedguard for some GYCB 5" double tail hula grub. Looking through Bass Pro I was surprised at how few options I had. I am guessing an arkie style would give me more versatility that a football head but I would listen to that argument if someone wanted to make it.
  10. Did you ever find out if Tangle Free was still being made or not? A lot of my trips to the lake are impromptu ones where I'd never have the chance to apply something to my line 12 hours before fished.
  11. Earlier this afternoon I wrote: Just looked it up and confirmed it for myself on Bass Pros page. Got to search for your specific store then look for the flyer that starts on 4/12. The funny thing is I was home and like 10 minutes later the flyer arrived in my mail LOL
  12. Yeah Russ, a few months ago when the Cabelas out by you had a big sale on InvizX I loaded up on 10, 12 and 15. I have always been a 100% Sufix 832 braid guy but since getting on this forum I have learned the advantage of different line types and I decided to branch out this year. Ultimately I really see the advantage of doing braid to FC leader for a lot of applications but the "hassle" of tying that all up correctly all the while having to do the normal Dad duties when fishing with my family (changing lures and taking off fish for a wife and an 8 and 3 year old boy will SEVERELY cut your fishing time!) just seems like too much. Perhaps when I am fishing by myself I could see that happening. I bought 4 new rods/reels for specific presentations this off season so I am committing to learning more. I watch as many YouTube videos as I can and read as much as I can here but it is hard to go apply it to certain lakes in certain situations because as you know the right thing to do is so situational and you can only apply the correct method with experience.
  13. It is interesting you say that about the wind because that is something I was thinking about today while out there. The wind was coming BIG TIME out of the south. I was wondering if it would normally be best to hit "targets" from the south so the wind was at my back aiding with casting OR if it would be better to be on the north side which would make it tougher because I would be casting into the win BUT if it's true the wind can push bait fish does that mean there is a pretty good chance fish might be on the north side, facing south waiting for bait to come at them? Or is this all hog wash LOL?
  14. Think I might go back to James Reed in the morning. I don't if you have ever been there but they have 8-9 ponds/lakes that are pretty good in size. They do not allow boats our there and a lot of people have posted pics of big females caught that are normally not accessible but are now with them moving in for the spawn. A few weeks ago I did well with white spinner baits. Then all my friends swore up and down last week that I needed to move to square bills and red colored lipless. Well I had NO luck and only managed to lose a ton of brand new baits! If I go in the morning I assume you'd advise me to go to the north end of whatever pond I choose as it should hold the warmest water? Any particular presentation you would suggest?
  15. I have found 40# braid to be a good size line for a general purpose 7'0" BC rod. Thinking about making up a similar set up but with fluero. Would 15# be the right size for this purpose or something else?
  16. Super windy today. Was bank fishing today at James Reed and all the bites I got were right at the bank, literally as I was about to pull the bait out of the water! It has been in the low 80's this morning and it sounds like until 1 it will be about 70 and then it starts plummeting to the high 50's around 8 AM and such. If this happens is it even worth trying to do a little fishing tomorrow morning and if so how would you go about it?
  17. Even thought I am new to making a know with FC I am GUESSING the line is breaking versus my knot giving. If it were the knot when I reel back the line it would kind of be "crinkled up" and not a clean cut, right?
  18. 12# Seaguar InvizX. I am sure at first I felt what felt like a potential bite then somewhat set the hook. I then will sort of "jiggle" it up,down, left, right and such. Then I will walk the bank one way or the other and try to get at it from a different angle and see if that does anything. Then at that point figuring I've got nothing left to lose I will go to the power game. A lot of times with braid on I can pull it out because the stock hook will bend.
  19. I am a BIG fan of SK RES and I bought a bunch this off season. I even went as far as to upgraded the trebles on all to Mustad KVD short shank triple grips. Bought a dedicated rod for this and dedicated to switch from my braid and learn to use fluero. So far I am SEVERALLY regretting all this and I hope my problems are more a matter of where I am fishing and not the decisions I've made. Wanting to take advantage of the spawn I've been going out to a local wildlife place called James Reed which has 8 or so good sized ponds. A lot of big girls have been pulled out of there this spring! They do not allow boats so it has been all bank fishing. My frustration is over 2 trips now I have lost 5-6 new RES with all upgraded hooks and that adds up! The hooks are so strong they will not bend out and release from the hidden obstacle and also no longer using braid I am unable to pull or jerk it out of the tree limb or whatever and it has frustrated me to no end!! I keep telling myself if I was on a boat and not on the bank this would not be happening. But I have fished there before with stock hooks and braid and did not lose NEAR this many. I guess I am just questioning my thought process or if I should have used cheap-o options instead. I am not really asking any specific questions here but any thoughts? I understand if I throw it in the middle of a lay down I get what I deserve but it has been out in what I think is fairly open water only furthering my level of frustration!
  20. Just looked it up and confirmed it for myself on Bass Pros page. Got to search for your specific store then look for the flyer that starts on 4/12.
  21. Be it T-rigged or wacky when do you start throwing a senko? Before, during or after the spawn? Is it at a certain water temperature?
  22. Where are you seeing this?
  23. Do you leave your soft plastic trailer on or take it off? Like If you were fishing a chatter bait or a jig that day where you had a plastic trailer on both when you are packing up to go home do you just leave it on for next time? If you may not fish again for a few days does it damage the hook or rod and you should take it off or what? Just curious for other opinions out there.
  24. I have read tons of opinions on EWG style hooks and straight shanks but have not read much on offset shank RB worm hooks. For what applications should I consider them?
