You should have been here the other day
this makes me count my blessings. the jobsite where i am currently assigned overlooks my fishin hole. as i descend the west stair tower, i can actually see it from the 6th floor. (trees get in the way lower than that) i get off at 2:30 pm, so on days when i know the weather will be good, i put my bfs rod in the car with my fishin boots. i have my line in the water by 2:40. the only reason i dont go at lunch time is jobsite parking is so bad, if i leave my parking space, i have to park a half mile away when i get back.

lures not made anymore
so, back in the day, one of my favorite lures to throw was a spence scout. anyone remember them? i caught lots of fish on them, they were a good lure. why would something like that, which worked no longer be in production? i wonder if there are other lures that were good ones, but are no longer made. are there any that you miss?

Should I Try ?
i often let things like that go just out of time consideration, let alone risking gators.

You should have been here the other day
that's exactly my point. at least for me, i couldn't care less how good the fishing was last week, or even yesterday, or 5 minutes ago. when i see another angler as i walk along the bank, i usually ask "catchin any?" but really all i'm doing is greeting them. even when they say they ain't had a bite all day long, it doesn't change what i'm there for. so when i tell someone "oh man, we busted 'em up here last week" it doesn't mean a thing. if they know how to fish, they'll probably catch some, or they won't. nothing i say is going to change that. i just like jerkin their chain a little. besides, anyone who knows that section of the crick knows i'm full of shizz anyhow. that place is so over fished , nobody has more than 2 or 3 good days in a whole year there, i don't care if it's roland martin.

Overfishing
i went fishing for the first time this year, just yesterday. i was there 20 minutes when a guy walked up with his daughter and his lab, and started throwing a retrieval dummy into the water. for whatever reason, i didn't even get mad. i just went home. the place i go is heavily fished, and it's tough to get good fish there. it's been that way as long as i can remember, about 44 years. i like fishing there, but i am starting to think maybe i don't really go there to catch fish.

Grabbing line when landing fish - Myth?
when i was 13, a buddy invited me and another guy to their cabin for the weekend. he told of this pond nearby that he had been wanting to try out, so we did. well, we had the best fishing day a kid could ask for. we caught LOTS of nice fish, to my memory the smallest of them was about 2 lbs. at one point, i hooked a monster. the fight was epic. taking line, gaining it back. my berkley rod bent over in a mean arc, mitchell 300 singing away, the flourescent yellow 12# stren was tighter than a banjo string. after what seemed like an eternity, i got the fish close to the bank. one of the kids jumped in the water. he went to grab my line, and i screamed NOOOOOO!!!! in what felt like slow motion instant replay. i yelled LET GO OF THE LINE!!! but instead, he lifted the fish out of the water with about 18" of line below his fist. the fish shook once, the line popped, and it swam away with my black spinnerbait. things between me and that boy changed forever that day. this wasn't even one of my fish. i posed for this picture so we could send it into mepps in attempt to get into their magazine.

First cast jinx?
i rarely catch a fish on the first cast, but when i do it seems to indicate a good day is in store for me. i have had tons of hits on the whopper plopper, but i have yet to actually hook a fish with one. it's getting to the point where i don't throw it, in favor of a buzzbait or a stickfish

What makes you cover or not cover your rods?
any time you buy from 6th sense fishing, you can get 10% off by using the discount code jr10. it's from a youtuber named justin royal. i watch a bunch of fishing channels, for the same reason you might watch fishing shows on tv, except i don't watch tv. i learned about the rod covers from his channel. he likes the smell, but i like the quality of them. you'll see what i mean.

What makes you cover or not cover your rods?
i use them on all my rods, because i worked real hard for the money i spent on them. i don't have a boat (yet) so when i go fishing, my rods (one piece) ride along. they go from the trunk through the back seat, all the way to the front seat. not using sleeves would (for me) be foolish. i have an easy fix for that: buy your sleeves from 6th sense. they're waaayyyy better than the mesh sleeves, and they resist getting snagged. they also don't catch on the guides like the mesh ones do. if you try one, you'll never use anything else.

rubber frogs are ok, but nothing beats an actual, live bullfrog- One lure only.
i don't pay much attention to who makes what, so i don't know the brand. but i would choose a ½ oz spinnerbait in firetiger, with the biggest willow blades i can find, preferably hammered ones. i don't even need a trailer.- Way off-topic. A cooking discussion?
i love making it, especially because many restaurants make it wrong, and the sauce is cloying. i HATE that. but it is alot of work- Ugliest Fish in the Aquarium
when you say ick, it made me think of this song- Way off-topic. A cooking discussion?
if you know anyone who owned a suzuki marauder, ask them about "the burrito box". it's a fake air cleaner, that actually holds something called a pair valve, which everyone removes. stick a hot pocket in there, and take a nice ride. when you stop, enjoy a hot meal! hahhahaha it really works though- Way off-topic. tonight i am making "orange chicken". it's my own recipe, and it's not like what you might get in a asian restaurant. in a bowl, mix the following: 1 cup oj zest from 3 oranges ¼ cup soy sauce tablespoon brown sugar ½ teaspoon course ground black pepper ½ teaspoon salt preheat oven to 400º put 3 boneless chicken boobs in a casserole dish pour the sauce over them stick it in the oven, uncovered for 30 minutes. serve over a bed of sushi rice, spoon sauce over it so the rice can soak up some sauce. i usually serve a little less than a cup of rice per boob. tonight i'll also have some fresh green beans cooked in a fryin pan with some pepper, and butter. i don't really cook them, just kinda make them hot- Way off-topic. back when i was an apprentice, i worked in a small shop in pa. an amish guy came every tuesday. he only had 1 item...bearclaws. they were huge, and delicious, and only 85 cents. i would bring one each for the wife and kids. they were gone before i got my boots off- Way off-topic. i'll occasionally add a little less than a teaspoon to a pot of spaghetti sauce to cut the acid- Classic Country & Western
i can't think of one time i've listened to that song, when my heart didn't break just a little. my 1st wife's uncle jerry used to work for him as a double, ages ago. i grew up listening to 80's metal, and 70's arena rock. when i was a teenager, one of my buddies was going through his parent's record collection. we laughed at the cover, and some of the song titles, because of how not metal it was. he put it on, as a joke. that's when the laughing stopped. you can't not like at least some of that record. it's what caused us to listen to some of the other records they had, and turned us on to music we might not have given a chance. my taste in country might not be as country as some of you folks, but if i made a top 5 list of the finest ladies God ever put on this earth, these 2 would be in there.- Way off-topic. an old girlfriend showed me how to make my chilli way better, and it was already pretty good. my recipe fills a big ol stock pot, i dunno...it's maybe 2 gallons? but anyhow, i was making it one day, and she...persuaded ? me into adding something i NEVER would have thought of. 3-4 squares of baker's chocolate. the ones that are about ¾" what it does is subtle but it makes the sauce sooo good. i'm no chef, so maybe some of you guys already know about that. but i do make certain things well. nobody leaves my table hungry ?- Way off-topic. i love to cook, but i hate doing dishes. i have a notebook for recipes that i've collected or created over the years. i can bake, too. i want to learn to grill & smoke.- River bass after flood?
all my biggest bass from a river have come from the same type of cover. after a rain, i look for newly downed trees that are still alive. i ALWAYS catch big ones by fishing them. - Frogs
