  1. Thanks for the help. In a few days when I am home I will post a picture of where it's coming from as well as a sound video. I suspected it was at the point that the rotor/shaft is because without the spool i can still hear it as i reel in, the harder i reel the louder it is. It sounds as if there is sand in there, like i can hear something small scraping as i reel. I tried a shimano sedona in store and it was incredibly smooth and didn't make a sound. This reel would be very smooth if it were not for the scraping noise. One other thing i forgot to mention that i believe is part of it, the reel seems to not spin very long when i make it free spin. If i spin the reel on my cheap $15 diawa strikeforce fast and let it spin, its momentum carries itself for a while, while the lews seems to be stopping short. I will show this in the video as well
  2. yes i meant rotor, I am not very knowledgeable in the parts of a reel. i can still hear it without the spool.
  3. were they ever able to fix it?
  4. I have a new Lew's Tournament TS300 spinning reel. Before it was used, when i would crank the reel,I could hear a faint hissing sound, like something was rubbing up against something else in the reel when the spool rotated. After fishing with it twice, it's gotten louder. I have tried other reels and know they are usually silent. I could only describe this sound as a very soft version of what it sounds like when you have a piece of paper stuck in a bike tire spoke. This reel was sold at $80, (has since been discontinued) so I would expect a silent reel. Do any of you reel experts know what this could be, or how to fix it? I already reoiled some parts but most of the reel is still fresh with grease from the factory. It gives the reel a sort of "dry" feeling instead of smooth like butter. I tookit apart and could not see anything stuck in there.
  5. thanks, i will definitely check out the bg, i was thinking about buying one for saltwater, and was eyeing the nasci, but id prefer not to have a graphite frame. thanks, but the only reason i made a separate thread was because i was trying to gain knowledge on the 4 i mentioned
  6. good for freshwater?
  7. Looking for a new spinning reel this black friday or cyber monday, I need help on this handful i have chosen, if anyone has experience with any of them please let me know: 1. Abu Revo X 2.Pflueger supreme XT 3. Daiwa procyon 4. A stradic ONLY IF it is on going on sale. will be used for M-MH rod trying to stay within 100-130 dollar range
  8. I am planning on buying a baitcast setup for frogging in the spring/summer. Any suggestions on rods+reels? $150 range or less for rod and for reel.I am leaning towards the dobyns fury magheavy flippin stick and the bps pq2. I'm not brand specific just has to be a flippin stick 7'-7'3 and a reel thats solid, has at leas 6:1 GR, and preferably the simpler to operate the better. some other reels i would consider -h20 mettle (is the gen 2 as good as the first?) -Abu orra sx -shimano caenan
  9. Thats what i was thinking, i have been there three times, twice in a boat, with no luck on anything except small pickerel. I would go back to try and nab some trout though, but it looks dead for bass.
  10. Good to know! i actually go to school 5 minutes down the road from cochichuate... have been a few times but havent caught anything except some pickerel, saw plenty of large trout but no bass. Will definitely check out more you mentioned.
  11. Mostly central Mass, i'm from worcester and the farthest i will probably go to fish is 45 minutes to an hour, maybe up to the quabbin or the manchester reservoir in attleboro which i heard was great fishing even in the winter. thank you thanks man!
  12. where is that? i am new to the forum
  13. Anyone have any tips for a new fisherman on how to catch bass in the wintertime up here in Massachusetts? I do not have that much access to a boat, and mostly do shore fishing, but any tips will help. thanks
  14. I ended up getting the clarus because it ran me the least amount of money and i heard amazing things about it. For christmas my girlfriend is getting me a dobyns fury djektd. I would like to keep this thread running however because I will need another rod soon and Still am considering the ones i mentioned above. Falcon looks tempting, may save up and buy the bucoo sr. If abu runs a clearance and sells veritas for $32 i will definitely jump on that. on this note, does anyone know when rod riots at academy are/when the next one will be?
  15. About to purchase new rod for spinning setup. It's my first over 20$ setup. I just bought a lews Tournament speed spin 300. There are major sales right now, and these are my choices. I cannot try them out in stores so am looking for some info on them; experience, flaws, overall value. -Veritas 2.0, 7ft MH-$65 (reluctant because of breaking history) -Falcon HD, 7ft M-$69.99 -H20 Express Ethos 6'10 MH-$59.99 -Shimano Clarus, 7ft MH-$49.99
  16. Really want this rod but do not have enough money
  17. Veritas 2.0s are on sale for $65. Went to buy one, but learned about all the snapping issues, and am now reluctant. Do they really break this easily? $100 marked down to $65 is very tempting, but is it worth the buy? Considering veritas or falcon hd.
  18. Anyone have any experience with falcon, specifically the HD? I am looking for a budget rod, and I have heard great things about this brand. the hD is only $69.99. worth the buy?
  19. I just picked up a lews speed spin tournament spinning reel on sale for $30. I believe they used to retail for $80 before the new version came out. Seems like a good reel. anyone have experience with them? its the lews speed spin ts300

  23. I was debating on getting the ugly stik, but for the bass fishing i do i decided the 30-50 dollar price range would be better spent on a lightning rod/ rod shock than an ugly stick, sacrificing durability for sensitivity
  24. found a used dobyns fury on amazon for 83$, says it is like new... is this worth spending extra money on and waiting for a reel or buying a less expensive reel? dobyns are never usually on sale
  25. strictly Freshwater i'm looking for , I mostly spearfish saltwater, but may possibly do some shore fishing this summer.
