  1. I've never owned a pistol grip rod......but one of my uncles used them for pitching worms and casting spinnerbaits shallow. They aren't popular anymore, but my motto is, do what works for you !
  2. Less than the cost of new 175hp Mercury Fourstroke : ) and really a nice affordable no frills boat.....its just to bad there isn't a legitimate rod box, it looks like it only offers open rod storage.
  3. Everyone fishes differently but this is what I keep on hand to feel confident in 99% of Bass scenarios : With bullet weights including Punch rigs: 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and 1oz With Skirted Casting or Flipping Jigs: 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 and 1oz With Drop Shot: 1/8, 1/4 and 3/8 With Football Heads: 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 With Shaky Head Jigs: 1/8 and 1/4 With Tube Jig Heads: 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 Swim Jigs: 3/8 and 3/4 Weedless Chomper Jig Heads: usually 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 (but my box is now depleted and I haven’t found a vendor with reasonable prices for these)
  4. I fished ABA for a few years as a co-angler and I was never back boated at the local division level tournaments; but at the National Championship it was a different story....but much of this is dependent on what bodies of water the tournaments will be on and luck of the boater draw.
  5. I’ve ordered reels but never Rods from Amazon; and I’ve never had a problem. Keep in mind though, not everything sold on Amazon is fulfilled and shipped by them. The other online retailers I have bought rods from are : 1) North 40 Outfitters (Good Prices, Very Well Packaged in the sturdiest rod tubes I’ve ever seen) 2) Academy Sports (Good Prices, Ships in Rod tubes but takes forever to ship up north) 3) Pure Fishing (Retail Prices, guaranteed waranty, ships properly in sturdy rod tube) 4) Dicks Sports (Good Prices when they run online coupons , very good customer service but terrible Rod shipping methods. Rods are shipped in two 4ft rectangle boxes that are taped together. On two occasions they shipped rods to me and they arrived with the rod tips poking out of the side of the cardboard boxes) 5) American Legacy Fishing (excellent service and very good prices , Rods are shipped properly in reinforced tubes) 6) EBay (roll of the dice and completely dependent on the vendor)
  6. I’ve seen co-anglers with $100 dollar combos outfish boaters with $500 combos....the cost of the sporting equipment doesn’t always equate to success unless you are cycling in the Tour de France on a $500 bike against a cyclist on a $30,000 bike....but fishing is a very different sport and one where the common angler or advanced angler can always compete using budget equipment !
  7. I fished a lot of very skinny water with heavy shallow cover last year and my best we’re caught mid day....but typically and historically this isn’t the case. I usually catch my better fish after 5pm
  8. I’m not sure what the fee is , but there is a daily fee for both Harley Ensign and Selfridge...both offer close access to Anchor Bay
  9. So much good water on St Clair....and those fish move around so much it's difficult to say .....but if I were new to the Lake I would get myself a drift sock and start off in Anchor bay . It's not difficult to reach from the Metropark launch and there are plenty of smallmouth in that bay during pre-spawn all the way through post spawn. Tube jigs rigged with teardrop shaped jig inserts , mojo rigs with Senkos and Lipless Crankbaits should be all you need for a good day on the water.

I like their Squarebills....specifically the translucent red craw SquareBill .
  11. I hope Rams Defensive player Robey Coleman makes an interception late in the 4th quarter of a tied Super Bowl game against the Patriots, and takes it all the way to the end zone for a pick six and a win. Not because I want the Rams to win but because I want the league and its viewership to crumble even further. The NFL has been a joke for a long time and it will continue to be if they don't make some changes...even Hulk Hogan agrees.
  12. In 2018 my most productive color regardless of lure type was Purple and also another color which is out of production.....in 2017 my most productive color regardless of lure type was Green Pumpkin and also White. So essentially......my most productive color plastic seems to change from year to year, so I try not to get hung up too much on color.
  13. I like Yozuri Hybrid in 8, 10 and 12lb test....for jerkbaits and crankbaits....but 75% of the time I still opt for basic monofilament
  14. Split Shot Rig with a Zoom Centipede or French Fry on the business end
  15. Al Linder .... He has written a ton of great information and books and also has a web page called angling edge. You can watch 8 years of fishing shows right through the "watch episodes" section at angling edge.com. If I was trying to fast track my knowledge I would watch every episode he has about Bass and then I would read his books about Advanved bass strategies. Also consider Brandon Palanuik, Kevin Van Dam, Michael Iaconelli or even Mark Menendez.....All of these anglers are good at presenting clear and concise information.....but if you want too much information than check out Aaron Martens. Good Luck !
  16. Back in the 90s I followed the tables and calendars....but I only reference them now after my fishing outing....this way if the fishing was bad I have an explanation : )
  17. Not exactly a real world scenario, as it was a stocked pond with domesticated largemouth...: ) But that is some of the best footage I've seen of feeding bass, especially in slow motion !
  18. The shows intriguing but theory after theory and no bag of gold or riches....it reminds me of those folks who chase after Bigfoot their entire lives and can never produce the proper evidence, yet they always find a way to dangle a carrot and keep the fable or mystery alive. But it makes for descent entertainment
  19. Martens, Lee, KVD, Defoe, Strader, Lucas, Wheeler and Roy should all do well....but my gut says KVD or Wheeler
  20. I often catch Michigan Largemouth and Smallmouth and Northern Pike in 45 to 50 degree water using Lucky Craft Sammy’s and Long Body Poppers; but usually in early to Mid Fall
  21. I own two of the Okuma Stratus S25 and they are 5 to 1 gearing. They are a very compact spinning reel and work well for Bitsy Bug Jigs, Shaky Heads and Drop Shots on 6ft6 Medium Fast Spinning Rods. I think they recover 25 inches of line per turn
  22. Capt. Frank Carbone has been guiding since 1991; he is reputable and knowledgeable; and knows the water from Clewiston all the way to the Everglades. I recommend his guide service.
  23. I found the 8.1 gearing is great for Frog fishing and pitching plastics. With those techniques, the higher speed allows me to make more presentations over the course of an entire day; and statistically improves my chances . But what works for me might not work for you !
