  1. Eh.....I just stick with one rod and a backpack for my lures when shore fishin. Lots easier and I can choose among my setups depending upon what I'll be mostly throwing. Most of the time, I use a Medium rated rod as it handles a wide variety of baits.
  2. Custom Loomis GLX ...... awesome.
  3. Godzilla vs. Hedorah - Sorry, couldn't resist. I've heard good reviews on both rods. If you have a store with both nearby, put a reel on them and see how they feel. They really should be comparable and doesn't sound like you can go wrong with either one. If you have Shimano or Daiwa reel you are gonna put on it, maybe go with the same brand.
  4. I purposely omit anything Roland Martin pimps .... after he endorsed the rocket launcher "fishing pole" for kids. As far as reels...if it says Daiwa, I'm buyin.
  5. There are definitely some bargains. Check out the buyer ratings and the shipping costs. Be weary of people with low number of ratings/transactions ..... I've got a reel and 2 rods off ebay. 2 of them were smooth transactions and good deals. I did have one bad experience where the guy put the rod in a PVC pipe without any insulation. Came over with 2 bent guides so I had to deal with US Postal on the insurance which was a pain in da butt. So ask questions and also ask how they are planning on shipping. For rods, ideally they should ship with PVC and insulation.
  6. Recommend it .... you can always re-spool when the line becomes coily. I change out about once a month during the fishing months. I like the 10pd test....At that price, might as well give it a try. I like the ultra soft too.... One other thing....that liine is pretty darn strong....more than the lb rating.
  7. I do the same, and this is what most sunglass companies recommend. Right....except, only getting one pair of prescriptions. Would be nice to have 2 or interchangeable lenses..... Eh, will probably just go with the amber and wear a hat. Just to try something different than the usual gray.
  8. Good topic as I am also taking the polarized rx sunglasses dive this year. Folks seem to like Maui Jims, Oakleys and Costas. My optician guy recommends the MJs so I might try that....although they are probably fairly pricey when you do the frames and the lenses. Gotta go with shatter resistant lenses .... a jig in the eyeball would probably not be good with glass. I have some insurance that pays up to $120 so hopefully won't cost me more than couple hundred. You guys like amber or grey for bass fishin? Might try amber to brighten up the water.....
  9. Generally, I'd go with a Med Fast rod. I have one that I use in multi-bait scenarios when limited with my combo selection. Edit> Just notice the BPS blurb: BPS is rather limited on split grip rods. They do have the Shimano Cumara which has had great user reviews....Carrot Stix + SC Legend. Shimano Crucial also has a split g model..... More options at Tackle Warehouse..... Good luck.
  10. I like the one handed glove with little mirrors on it so when I catch a fish, i can go......"hee hee".... Followed up with a 360 body twirl and a snap. ;D Sorry.....mind wandering.
  11. Anyone happen to have some links on techniques? ..... I'll set aside a day or two for swimbaitin' ..... that is kinda hard when you have poles and baits just screamin to be thrown, esp in the fall. I've read that it is a different mindset.....I guess I have to adjust the brain patterns. BTW, All I have is a the BB and a 9 in Black Slammer right now. May try to get a Wake Jr for Christmas .....
  12. I've probably put in 8 hours over the course of the summer with no takers. I have to admit, I might give it about an hour at the most during one trip. Sometimes for half an hour. I've tried shallow water, letting it fall to the bottom in 15+ ft of water, slow reel, fast reel, deep banks, shallow banks. I've seen baby bass in the size range so I think the size is ok to use still. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Doing a couple trips this weekend. Should be cloudy tomorrow am so thinking it might be a good time to use it.
  13. Alrightee.Tis the season. Water temps getting into the high 60s, lower 70s. If you were doing the show Day on the Lake, how would you approach a general body of water? I'm kinda scatter brained, I'll try flats, drop offs, deep banks with a popper or other topwater in the morning til about 8. Crankbait on and around flats after that for a few. Then throw the whole arsenal all over the lake for the rest of the day. Mid running crankbaits seem to be working best. Tx Rigged Worms, not so much. Shakey head is always good for a couple o small ones. Tried some swim/paddle tail baits with no luck this season. I need some ideas on tactics, structure, early am bite, etc. Join in...
  14. Big Bass in a Farm Pond ...... 7 inch senko
  15. Get a portable depth finder....usually around $100. Not great on actually identfying fish but does a good job on depths and temperature. Kinda fishing in the blind without one.....look for any irregularities on the bottom and helps when finding good deep spots. +Welcome aboard.
  16. Just keep it out of the salt and they should last forever with regular maintenance. I have the baitcaster and no problems.....
  17. I'm a believer. Great for fishing the bottom and bass can't resist it. I like to use them in 10-20 ft of water. Deep banks + docks are good places....
  18. Knowing that they are there is most of the battle.......I'd love to be able to see em in my water. Good idea on the shutting off the sonar, drop shot. +Welcome Aboard.
  19. What ya got for fishin deep? Jigs, deep cranks, drop shot?, shakey head.....was thinking about senko on a jig head to try this week. Gotta find me some deep water spots first.......
  20. Woops. Stupid link won't take for some reason..... Google "bass fishing home page", first result. You have to click fishing reports and pick the state..... That should work. Tom Bass....will PM you sometime. Maybe we can trade some bassin ponds around Concord. I have a few good ones but most ponds around here aren't that great.
  21. Better yet, for lake norman, check out the reports here. Anything by LKNBassman, he fishes Norman and has really good reports regularly. another site
  22. The new ones are lighter......and greener. They'd look really nice on green GLX (BCRs) and should perform very well. BCRs are also on the Flea Market once in a while.... I'd wait but it that is easier said than done..... Preview of new Curado: http://www.tackletour.com/reviewcuradociticapreview09.html
  23. I fish the other lakes around these parts mostly but..... dock fishin is probably where you'd have the most success this time of year. also, shakey head cuz the lake has lots of spots. google "fishing with rusty" and it will pop up some local reports. plus you can ask him a question on the forum and he'll respond. i think rusty even did a show out there where he tore em up on a shakey head. hit the internet show link......
  24. Like the sound of...... Rage Tail Anaconda I love snake looking lures......
  25. Try a weightless lizard......swim it close or on the top at dusk...with an intermittent jerk. Been working for me big time lately.....
