  1. I used to fish with bream in the past and it definitely works....usually larger bass as well. As RW said, use a circle hook with live bait and don't set the hook. Just reel in and keep on the pressure. I hooked them right on the back with not too much meat on the hook. I liked using the smaller 2-3 inch bream and that worked fine. Catch the bream on a very small hook and a little cheese.....a little cheese chum line in the water helps too. Get em fired up and you can catch em real quick.
  2. If a steady retrieve is not working, try hopping it off the bottom or slowing down/speeding up. Erratic retreive works when the steady retrieve isn't.....sometimes.
  3. Caught a 2 pounder on a rocky point with a Sammy last night at dusk ..... man, I love a topwater bite. Water temps around 63-65. The main reason I threw it was the dusk factor, otherwise probably wouldn't have thrown it.
  4. Megabass USA. If you pay with postal money order....you get free shipping too(I did that last year).....Plus no tax.....can't beat that with a stick. Just have to figure out what you want and give them a call to see if it in stock. Figuring out what you want is the hard part......
  5. So....you guys don't buy into the stubborn/stick to it all day theory. I guess it hasn't worked for me so far......but I am stubborn at times.... Maybe I'll commit to a certain period of time and then switch up if I'm not catching em.....like an hour or two depending upon how long we are on the water. Thanks. Any more adjustment tips are welcome......
  6. Used 1/4 and 1/2 oz. Mostly shallow less than 6 ft. Up to 10 ft. I'm gonna trim one up real good for the next time just to have a more compact offering.....just one idea.
  7. Been out 2 times in the last week on big lakes(one night and one afternoon). I've been stubbornly sticking to fishing a jig , probably 85% of the time and the rest a moving bait of some sort. Yesterday, my buddy caught them on a texas rig out of the front of the boat but I stuck to my jigs all afternoon. (tried green jig / green trailer, black/ pumpkinseed, black/black in slightly stained water) So, this happens every year for me. I start out jiggin' heavily, don't catch bass, lose confidence and it is back to the ol texas rig or shakey head worm. The bait itself looks awesome in the water. I have Rage Tail and Net Paca chunks on various types of black and green jigs. I'd eat it if I was a bass. I did catch a few on a finesse jig in a pond this year so at least that gives me a glimmer of hope. I have not tried finesse jigs on big water yet. I've studied enough on the boards where I think I am retrieving it correctly. Short hops, drags, jerks, pausing and shaking. How can I adjust my jiggin to make it more effective? Do big lake bass just see too many jigs from everyone throwing them? Should I try downsizing or trimming the skirt and trailer? Any adjustment tips would be greatly appreciated.
  8. Kinda keep this quiet....just between you and me.....a guy on the FLW tour just won two tourneys in a row on a chatterbait/jig/swim senko tail doo-hickey. In Florida Toho and California Delta at that...... impressive indeed. Remember....shhhh. :-X
  9. I live next to Bass Pro so I ended getting some 17lb BPS Fluoro. I wanted something with minimal stretch and it tested out pretty well on TackleTour. Plus, I don't want to lose a Mattlures baby bass when I throw it on this particular pole....17lb test just gives me a little more confidence. Thanks
  10. Hasn't been asked in a while and I need to get some new line. What is your current favorite line for bottom bouncing??
  11. You guys know which brands of plastic trailers actually float? Most that I have seen have good action but don't float.
  12. DOH!! Let's keep this between you and me. I'm hunting wasskwey bass this fwiday.....hahahahha(elmer voice). Got me a 10 pack last night. You guys notice Kinami sells 5 "palm trees"at about the same price as GY sells 10 fat ikas. Bad marketing in my book as I realize what is going on.
  13. Very good deals on the for sale board. Just deal with someone with a high post count ..... until you get to know folks.
  14. RW...u r da man. You gave my welcome aboard a year or 2 ago. Great thread you linked to. Second the welcome aboard. One little piece of advice. If you can, save up some money and go get you a new combo. Fishing is fun but fishing with good equipment is fun-ner. Plus if you had a new combo, you'd be fishin more too which is a good deal......
  15. 1 medium fast rod with baitcaster. handles everything well. went yesterday and threw everything i had except for heavy lures. caught nothing slow, caught one on crank, caught two on spinnerbait. normally don't throw cranks from the shore but i was desperate for a bite.
  16. Put a drop of oil on your bearings once in a while and put off the full maintenance for the off season. Unless your reels are behaving badly.
  17. Welcome aboard. I went pond fishin today and no hits on slow baits, including the senko. Caught mine on spinnerbait and shallow crank. When your senko is damaged, try re-rigging it further down the worm, after that rig it backwards. I can usually get 5 or 6 bass of off one. Just position the hook in undamaged areas......
  18. Uh....green senko with black flake or green + red flake. Perfect pond bait any time o year especially the spring. Guaranteed.
  19. Good topic. I want to experiment with different baits this year. Was thinking a craw, dt grub, brush hog......to name a few. So many baits, so little time......
  20. There may be some Fat IKA sightings around Concord, NC. Gonna give em a try. I've caught fish on every other GY bait so might as well add this one to the list.
  21. Do they have a web store??
  22. One vote for Daiwa peanut. Good and cheap. $4-$5.
  23. So...not to sound like an arse but.....what makes these better from what is out there already?? Compared to say a Bagley balsa crank? I do like the thought of the 1/8oz bait for finesse fun..... These things catch fishermen like crazy syndrome, perhaps?....
  24. Jason Quinn man....get with the program. He was also on Wylie for that segment and I recognized some areas he was fishin'.....sweet. Those storm slabs do suck. I agree that it has no action unless you are reeling it back real quick. Might work if the bass are aggressive. You can't present it slowly.....
  25. Jigs and Swimbaits. I'm gonna catch some HAWGS this year. 6 and 5.5 lbs were my big ones last year(caught within an hour of each other).....want to at least break 6.
