  1. I'm making a panel that fits into the PDL drive hole when the drive is up. I didn't want to pay $70 for this. I found a cutting board on Amazon for $22. It's 3/4 inch thick. Cheaper than buying HDPE. Well it looks like it's back up to $27 now: Amazon.com: Update International CB-1218H PE Cutting Board 12x18x3/4in: Home & Kitchen I still need to finish it but my tendinitis is bothering me after the work I've done so far. I used a jig saw which was a bit of a mess. Band saw would be better, or router. Needs a lot of cleaning up, jagged edges. It's even grippy, though I will add some type of padding or grip tape later. You could use a piece of 3/4 inch wood and paint it too. I could have found some free probably, but thought I'd go with the plastic. This panel is good in case you drop your keys or anything else while the drive is up. I raise the pedals to clean grass off the prop as well as to paddle through vegetation. Locks right into place. Like I said it needs some cleaning up but it will work. I will add a handle to grab it with. This stuff was tough to cut, may have had an old blade. Should look good after I sand it down. This thing was a pain to make a pattern for. I used cardboard. Pattern wasn't perfect so I had to cut, try and fit it, cut again, fit, cut over and over. It's a bit torn up.
  2. Leave it to our country to steal the name for the most popular sport in the world and use it for a game where a ball isn't even allowed to touch the ground and is barely kicked. And git off my lawn! [shakes fist] I actually had an old man shake his fist at me back in high school. He had a bad-ass 56 Chevy in his garage but just yelled at everyone who drove by. Poor dude.
  3. I remember as a kid seeing Dempsey's photo in the Guinness book. I thought it would be cool to be a kicker. Nowadays I have different feelings about kicking and football. Radical maybe, but I think field goals should be eliminated. Tired of seeing a hard fought game lost because some little dude that sits on the bench all day can kick a ball over halfway across the field. Doesn't make sense to me. I'd consider getting rid of punting as well. Get rid of the goal posts altogether. I'd like to see that tried at least. But then I don't watch football anymore anyways Maybe I would.
  4. Thank you, I just went to Amazon to check 'em out. Here's a search result list for anyone who wants them: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=side+cutters&ref=nb_sb_noss_1
  5. If I had the discipline to keep a journal I would do something like this. Being able to sort and display the data in different ways would be cool. I'm with AJ.....video evidence!
  6. Oh! Ack BRbrbrbrrb Yikes! I think that's the noise I made out loud when I read this!
  7. I'm sure the birds and fish think we are the invasive ones.
  8. Order received today. They look awesome! I have to use my reading glasses to find the blemishes and I'm not sure I've found any yet. You must take great pride in your work. The prices for unblemished are good too. This was my first purchase as I've barely fished jigs yet, but I will come back for more. I got the wire tie upgrade for 30 cents each too. It's a cool way to buy jigs with the customizations and all. Thank you!
  9. If I'm reading this correctly it would mean that around 1 in 11 Americans are bass fishermen. That can't be correct. Maybe 3 million? Certainly not 30.
  10. Not good news... https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/24/us/southwest-drought-forecast-climate-change/index.html "NOAA's latest projections show a 70& to 80% chance of La Niña emerging during the Northern Hemisphere winter season. With La Niña conditions coupled with warming temperatures, DeWitt said the Southwest will see enhanced evaporation that will intensify drought in certain places."
  11. Meanwhile over at the Cormorants forum: "Okay guys, we're doing recon flights every morning. When we spot this dude make sure you're ready for the call. We're going to do strafing runs, some high altitude drops, and for the grand finale...carpet bombing. And eat a lot of food beforehand!"
  12. Ya I'm worried about falling in as well! I"ve barely fished from a yak though, and this new one is so stable. I guess I'll wait and see what happens when I finally do catch one standing up. I think my back would be happier if I sat down and grabbed it. I try to avoid any awkward angles or overreaching with the back. Anyone ever hurt their back just turning the wrong way in the shower? When you've had injuries one of those little innocent movements will get you sooner or later. Can't wait to catch my first fish standing up in a yak! If I fall in I promise to share the video.
  13. Well since you said any imput is appreciated, I'll toss this out for anyone else whom it may help, if not the OP. An RV, or a truck with a bed in it and a campground with electrical hookups. Low security risk since you sleep with your stuff. And cheap. May not be practical for the OP, I don't know. My van has a bed in the back so I can sleep pretty much wherever I want. If you need the comfort of a hotel room then obviously not a good choice for you.
  14. I haven't caught one standing yet but I've wondered about it. I think I'd sit down to deal with the fish once landed, if not before while fighting it. My seat is easy to get in and out of for me.
  15. If that's real then wow. I guess it is but it seems like he got worse at it the more he tried, and the last few shots just seemed....well maybe he was drunk. It almost seems too good/bad to be true, but then again, it IS a boat ramp If someone asked me "Hey where can I go to see people doing some really dumb things?" I'd point them to the nearest launch. End of the day after all the beers are gone and they are pulling the boat out.
  16. Honesty is it's own reward.
  17. Had to look it up. It was Joe's Sporting Goods. I called them first and made sure they really had it, then checked them out online for happy customers. They're legit and the service was great. I did a Google shopping search until I found a store with it. For the kayak, I went to Old Town's site and pulled up a map of local retailers. I had to check each stores inventory, gradually working farther and farther from my home. It took some time, but I found it!
  18. I have discovered new online outlets thanks to Covid. I ordered a rod from a shop in Minnesota I'd never heard of, Fenwick HMG, because they were the only ones who had them in stock at the time. Kayak, I drove a few hundred miles to get it "now" rather than 3 months later, and without hundreds in shipping. Took some online searching to find it too. My food store hasn't had pot pies for a month! Probably better for me that way anyways.
  19. I cast with both sides all the time. I'm naturally right handed though. I have tendinitis and other stuff yet to be determined (both arms actually) so I switched. My friend gave me my first baitcaster a few years ago and it was left handed (right reel). I didn't consider casting righty and switching hands to reel, I'd never used a BC and never seen anyone do it probably, so I casted lefty. I actually feelbetter left handed with a BC, probably because that's how I started. Someone here mentioned the thumb feeling weird - that's how I feel right handed. Only because I rarely do it though. But I do some things strange. I often cast lefty over my right shoulder. Ya it's weird. I can also skip my BC lefty, but on my right side! I suppose that's probably really weird. I've never tried skipping on my left side. HOWEVER, with a spinning rod my line-finger feels weird left handed and right now I still cast righty because of that, then switch lefty to reel. My release of the line feels odd lefty. But with a few hours of practice I know I'd get better. A basic casting motion is not complicated at all. When learning, the less I thought about it the better I felt I was doing. The thing that will feel weirdest is probably the line release, but it's such a tiny movement that you'll get it quickly. Maybe not everyone, I only know about myself. People often ask Greg Blanchard why he uses left and righty reels. He never answers, but it could also be that certain retrieves are easier righty than lefty. For instance he may walk the dog better righty (and from a kayak). Who knows. He's also a Phys Therapist so maybe he's spreading out the arm usage like me. It's a good skill to have! If your cast is ever obstructed, especially bank fishing near trees, you can make that killer cast anyways. Edit to add even more stuff: I'm good lefty but not with all casts. I've never really pitched lefty. Should be a snap but I don't. I always use both hands when I do full casts too.
  20. Your profile says your PB is over 15 pounds. Tell me what the best bass rod is, please!
  21. Getting consistently drier. Two years ago many of these lakes were full, including my local ones. It comes and goes as Tom said, but it's getting worse. And as it gets drier things burn. Last year we all breathed a lot of toxic smoke filled air for months, who knows what was in it. I'm seeing less reason to stay here. In fact I see little reason to, for me personally. The Delta will be affected as well if we don't have enough snowpack for the rivers. The salt from the bay could flow further into the Delta and screw up the farmlands there and it would be a literal disaster. We can drain lakes to keep the rivers flowing, but there goes our water. And the lakes are low, of course. This dryness also has resulted in power being shut off for millions of people for several days, including our entire town, for fear of fires starting from the electrical "grid" being overloaded. Yep we are in big trouble.
  22. I'm going to try Calero tomorrow in my kayak. Sunday but what the heck. Drove by today and water isn't thaaaaaat low I guess. And there was nobody fishing the areas I will hit, at least as far as I could see. It's 8 bucks to launch. It's one of two lakes in the entire area where I can launch. We'll see how that goes. Not in the mood to drive to the Delta lately, and I'm waiting for the tides to be more agreeable with my schedule
  23. Ocean levels have risen as a result of melting polar ice. I want to be careful though about getting into a climate change discussion because "Irene" will probably come along and close the thread. Just went to a local lake, Calero, to check it out. Good-ish news. It's open, not incredibly low, and is only 8 bucks including vessel inspection (kayak). Small lake but this time of year there will be few pleasure craft. Gonna yak it tomorrow.
  24. Wow double since I was there. Here is a screenshot from a video four months ago when it was about 80 feet (my cousin)... It's double this now at 160 feet? Wow that is scary. It gets up to 500 feet deep. Thank goodness. The released water provides a good bit of electricity and feeds "my Dad's" lake. I drove over Lake Shasta two months ago and it was even worse. I think. Hardly any snow on Mt. Shasta either. None now I believe. My hopes for Cali and water next year are grim. The desert wants Cali back.
  25. Yes it is you are in the right place and welcome to the forum. I was brand new to fishing when I joined 3 years ago. Still am really!
