Securing a kayak - Locks, Cables...?
I've been looking up different cable locks to secure my WS Ride 115 to my Dad's dock. In or out of the water I suppose. Let's assume out of the water. I see a lot of cable systems. Some loop around the front and stern of the yak, others go through the scuppers. I think I'd prefer a scupper version. The likelihood of theft is somewhat low. I am reading that aircraft steel is best for cable toughness. It needs to be pretty weather resistant. Combo, key lock or both. I saw a Master lock cable that supposedly can be hammered and broken open easily (the lock). Would a separate very thick lock be better or worse than a built in lock? I expect that anyone prepared could cut through anything eventually, but if mine is beefy enough then maybe a would-be thief would move on. Well anyways, any suggestions? Doesn't have to be kayak specific.

Really?
You can get a reaction bite from a fired up fish with just about anything.

Ever catch the same fish twice?
I missed the OP where it says same fish in the SAME DAY. Yes I have. A bluegill on a bed 5 feet offshore. There were maybe a dozen of them visible. I released it and it went right back to its bed. Caught it again, same thing. After that catch he fled from my bait whenever it came near so I left them alone after that. I caugh 7 different fish there. Caught a striper twice off the Delta bank, twice in a day. Was able to get my first hook out of it's mouth. Maybe he did it deliberately Was in a river so I was really surprised.

Ever catch the same fish twice?
I just realized I've caught this fish at least THREE TIMES! I'm watching a video from 2 months ago. Same part of the creek again, same poor fish. I'd post a pic but it's the wrong side of the fish. I recognized the large missing piece of mouth on its other side. Like its whole mouth is kinda gone.

Shark Feeding On a Whale
Not sure but for bait I like to use surfers. Paddling Out is the best presentation, that action really fires 'em up. And the strike is so crazy!

This Makes Me Mad.
Like I said, I'm not mentioning names but H2O2 is not what I'm referring to. H2O2 will oxygenate water. That is a provable fact. This quote from "whoevers" website is not: With superior dissolving capabilities, improved calming effects and an overwhelming ability to remove both heavy metals and pesticides (both of which can be especially harmful in coves or canals) Overwhelming! I have emailed the gentleman who created the stuff. If a customer asks you how your own product works and you can't or refuse to explain it, it's a good chance that it doesn't actually work. Let's talk about "improved calming effects" while we are at it too maybe later. That's a bit more believable, though again hard to prove. You cannot remove heavy metals from fish by dumping powder into a livewell, and I really don't understand why you'd want to anyways. More like, "Hey we're using the same chemical that can be sometimes included in chelation remedies, let's add that to our claims!" As I said, a claim made without evidence can be discarded without evidence. I have provided at least some evidence. A lot of very popular products are BS outside of the fishing world. Look up homeopathy for one. I don't care what famous angler promotes it. It's bad science. I don't want to get in trouble with the forum so I will stop talking about it now. I do like the idea of measuring length, but it seems like there's such a wide weight range within each length. I dunno, I guess it would be a shame to catch a pig, but lost out because she was fat and short. Weighing in the boat by an official is best probably, but most small tournaments can't afford to hire all those people. Maybe volunteers, but you have to be able to trust them not to cheat. I remember a news story maybe 4 years ago where a guy was arrested for cheating in kayak tourneys. He had some cut bass tails in his boat, and he would use them to make the fish look longer by covering the "seam" with his hand during the picture. They caught him with the tails in his yak, I believe.

This Makes Me Mad.
The commercial additives make many unproven claims. One live well additive company (will not name cuz of rules) claims that their product can remove heavy metals. I wrote to the guy who makes it and asked him how...he provided a one word response - "chelation". When I asked for info he refused to discuss it. I know what chelation is and so do my science minded friends. It is a wild made up claim. Look up "chelation" if you don't believe me. It is used to treat people with lead poisoning and must be very very precisely dosed. Dumping powder into water does no meet this requirement. It is a laughable claim. And why would I want to remove heavy metals in the first place when I'm dumping the fish right back into the same body of water I caught it from? It's a gimmick and a lie. Chelation is a buzzword being used by people who claim that it cures autism and other problems. There is no evidence that it works for anything other than removing metals from the bloodstream. And exactly what chemicals are in the product that cause the chelation? In fact, without knowing what is in these things we can't be sure the fish aren't being harmed. Then we dump it into the water at the end of the day. I said it in another thread today - "claims made without evidence can be dismissed without evidence". I contend that live well additives are a waste of money.

HUGE BIG LARGEMOUTH BASS(My Pb)
Next time try just resizing the image to make it smaller. Or if you have Photoshop, use "Save For Web". I thought maybe you edited it to hide the location you caught it. He explained it twice.

Ever catch the same fish twice?
Caught this one 10 months apart. I have more photos and the scale pattern on the tail and back and near the eye are perfect matches. He also has a badly wounded mouth on the other side. No doubt the same fish. Caught him in a creek in the same hole twice. I've caught bluegill twice, and also a river striper. With the second catch of the striper I was able to remove my previous hook, plus the one I'd just caught it with. Catches were about 30 minutes apart. That one was kinda weird I thought, being in a river.

Looking for the smallest kayak boat that you can stand up.
I saw a new Greg Blanchard video and he's in a low weight, no pedals, Native "something". He stands in it, though he may be smaller than you. He drags it over some rocks. I can't remember the name of it but it's one of his newest 3 videos or so I'd say. It's a lower price model without a lot of features. Here it is:

Is the misery of kayak fishing worth it?
Going to give yakking another chance. I keep saying I'd rather have a boat, but storage space is limited for me. The creeks here are totally dry now, the lakes are depressingly low. So I am going to park my kayak on my Dad's dock at Tulloch and use it there. No loading onto the roof of the van (never tried), no carrying it around (tendinitis). No empty lakes (Tulloch is full, don't tell anyone) Paddling back to the ramp was always one big problem, and in the Bay Area you're always going against the wind at the end of the day. Now I won't have to. The cove his house is in is awesome, tons of bass. I can't wait!!!

Heavy Wire Hook for Fluke?
Interesting point. Good reminder that what a pro does isn't always best for the average angler. Thanks.

Fishing deep
Good to know! So if I never use a live well I don't need a fizzer? I don't have one but was recently wondering if I needed one. Wouldn't hurt I guess.

This is what can happen when someone leaves their fishing line hanging in a tree
Oh I'd say I see that about...let's see....every freackin time I fish I'm out of bags. I carry little thin ones, and a rubber glove or two. Nice work, fin/OP!

Driving from San Jose to Oregon - Where to fish?
Thanks, Tom. Checked out Bridge Bay and Bailey Cove areas on a map last night. I almost got a campsite near Bailey Cove but the water is so low....not sure I wanna bother. Maybe I will just concentrate on fishing when I get to Oregon. I would like to fish Shasta though. maybe just stop by Bridge Bay for a few hours. Can always hit it harder on the way home too, maybe even camp. Sites are available weekdays near Bailey. Yes I think the river I saw along 5 is the Umpqua, looked that up too. Really nice looking scenery all up that area of Oregon. Once at Shasta as a kid my cousin saw fishing line and hooks hanging in a tree. He climbed up and grabbed them. We caught trout with sticks off the side of the houseboat and ate em for dinner. I'll never forget that time. Some great days man at Shasta and Trinity.

Driving from San Jose to Oregon - Where to fish?
I'm checking out Shasta now. Hard to tell where to go because it is very low, I saw it a month or two ago from the bridge. It all looks great on a map but some coves don't exist right now. Thinking maybe keeping it simple and hitting either the dam area or Silverthorne and Bridge bay areas near Hwy 5. Does the Willamette have good fishing near Salem?

Driving from San Jose to Oregon - Where to fish?
Awesome. My family - sister and parents - want me to move there so I wanna check out the fishing while I'm there too. Don't really want to move to Oregon but I do want to leave Cali pretty bad. At least Oregon has water and fishing! After driving 800+ miles what's another 65 or so to fish? Thanks again.
