  1. Went with PVC for a rod rack in my minivan. I didn't want them dangling, I wanted them up as high as possible. Easily removed, it's only held in place by the grab handles of the van. I can fit 8 rods, probably more.
  2. Can you use/store a small trailer? My yak is only 86 pounds empty and I don't really wanna put that on the roof of my minivan alone. Never have. Afraid I'll tweak my back or aggravate my tendinitis and ruin the fishing, or drop it. If I keep the yak I will probably get a small trailer. As the water disappears here in Cali my fishing future changes with it.
  3. And this is why the rest of the civilized world thinks we're bat-guano crazy.
  4. The span is great. Skepticism and science is lacking in the general population. Fishing? The Brooklyn Bridge is sold to anglers every day.
  5. Sounds like an ad for MaxScent. "So good it's killing the fish!" Filing off barbs won't keep it from swallowing the bait, it will make it easier to remove though, hopefully. Or don't use MaxScent. I'm not sure why the taste would make a fish swallow it deeper or more aggressively. It already thinks its eating a real worm when it hits one, scent or not. If it doesn't like it the fish spits it out. Possible I suppose.
  6. I saw they updated the sign at my local creek. In addition to barbless and artificial bait requirements, they now do not allow scented baits. Interesting. They are trying to save the Steelhead so that's why the restrictions are there, weather they make sense or not. I remember a recent debate here about allowing scent in tournaments. This sign is the first I've ever heard of it being banned in any way. I've never used it. I don't know if salt impregnated baits count as scented, I am assuming no and using them.
  7. It'd be easy to quit here. My creek just suddenly dried up a few days ago. The lakes are super low and very tough. You have to wanna fish to fish here. I tramp through weeds, thorns, bugs just trying to find a golden spot to catch a few. I hiked three miles a few weeks ago and got a single bass, and I was fine with that. I thought I had a point to make here but I guess I don't I will move out of the Bay Area soon so I can fish properly (like maybe waaaay out of the bay Area).
  8. For once my sister is hot in Oregon and I'm just fine here in Calif. Bay Area. We still have no water though so hmmm.... I mean my local creek literally dried up last week, and I fish it a couple times a week, easily.
  9. Mine could use a lube too I noticed. But it's very smooth compared to what I'm used to, and it casts so nice. Not even a hint of backlash. Still tuning it - and still learning how to tune it, but ya it's cool. Or Hot I should say
  10. No it's Coyote Creek. It's okay now - the creek has dried up from the drought and draining of the upstream lake to fix the dam, so not a problem now. Most of the fish are dead. I fished a few pools or holes and there are fish just sitting there dying. I and many others are devastated. I've called the water district and I think we're just screwed. The "ponds" connected to the creek have water still, and a tiny bit of water trickling in, but everything dowstream is dry or almost dry. It happened almost overnight. I caught a bass here recently:
  11. I did catch a bass right before that but not with the frog. Same spot from shore. Got it on video - 1.5 pound fish broke the garage sale rod my friend gave me.
  12. Seen it on the YouTubes. I've also seen rocks catch bass. Tinfoil, Xmas ornaments.
  13. Someone guessed the location already and now it's out there. Let this be a lesson! Gotta keep secret spot secreter.
  14. I've caught exactly one thing with a frog...a bullfrog. Barbless so it was an easy release.
  15. Lakes have speed limits, are they enforced during a tourney, and does the tour tell the boaters to obey that speed limit? Letting these guys run that fast is insane.
  16. Make sure it's waterproof. First time I yakked I used a backpack and ya....wasn't waterproof. Edit Oh I see you got something, looked like a crate would fit. That's what i did. Built a plastic hinged lid for it and made some rod holders.
  17. My favorite creek just went dry over the past several days. People are freaking out. Things are looking great here Few carp or bass swimming in circles in this puddle. This was full of running water just a few days before.
  18. I wanted a sale on whatever rod I was going to get but nothing was in stock, or on sale. Looked hard to find this rod - of course now they're everywhere I got a bit of a deal on the reel. The eBay seller is sending me another $10 back for a reason, he doesn't have to but whatever. So ya just under $200. My most expensive setup to date. I hope the fish appreciate it. Edit to add: Just tried the combo. Great reel for me! Much nicer than my other garage sale special. Need to lube it though I think.
  19. Got my Daiwa Fuego CT today. Stuck it on the brand new HMG. This new combo is my other reward* for returning the lost rod and reels (cost me $200) LOL! Gonna go try it in a few hours. Now I gotta take a break from spending. * first reward was knowing the 11 year-old owner got his rods back.
  20. Is there good shore access there? I guess if it's low you can probably walk anywhere though. Pay to park?
  21. Oh I just love all the pigs at Coyote Lake. Not! They ransack the campgrounds every night and there's poop everywhere. I've been meaning to check out Grant Lake. Coyote Creek between San Jose and Morgan Hill is DRY by the way. I called a few places and they don't even seem to know what happened. Dead fish, nice stench. Few days ago it was fine, now no water. Not good.
  22. Doh! Naw they just get snagged that way. Actually I've lost every one I've thrown but one, and that one was the only one not thrown from shore. I think "shore" is the issue (and me).
  23. Wow you even got left AND right handed versions on some of them! Never caught on a lipless (yet) but man I love casting them!
  24. I don't want to derail this thread, but the guy who owned the lost rods was VERY happy. He just picked them up. His young son had a seizure that day next to the creek. A helicopter came and flew him out. He had to leave the rods. Dude, I am so happy that he got them back, and so was he. His son is "touch and go" right now, I don't know more than that I didn't ask. He lost them over a month ago too. Tried to give me $20, I said please don't be insulted but I can't take it. Pay if forward maybe, pick up trash. Really nice guy. Exactly the kind of guy you want to get his stuff back to. He says he picks up trash a lot. Volunteers for stuff. We're gonna get together sometime, he told me a good spot to try fishing too. He was so grateful, it's his son's gear, I think he's 11, and they can't buy a lot of stuff. Totally made my day. This is the story I was afraid of when I found the rods - that someone had to leave them, and they would belong to some kid. That's why I tried to return them. Wow! Was like something from a movie. Crazy story. It felt really really good to get him these rods. Hopefully his son is okay. They are supposed to fish a small striper tourney, father and son event. Just thought I'd let you guys know.
