  1. I doubt I get copied (I hope not for their sake), but my little Youtube channel is watched by some locals. I don't try and teach, I'm pretty new to it all myself. I just started making vids for fun so my friends could see and people started subscribing here and there. It's just me fishing. I always show what bait I'm using though, and it's obvious to locals where I'm at, and I say generally where I am. If I could give advice I would. If someone is friendly to me I can be a blabbermouth. I'm generally friendly and enjoy sharing knowledge regardless of the subject. I can be a **** too but not without reason.
  2. Wish I would have, or could have fished better fisheries. I was stuck in the south bay all season. The couple of times I made it out of the Bay Area I went to Tulloch Lake and caught some really nice LMB. The fish are bigger, fight a lot harder, and there are way more of them than what I'm used to. I will fish better water this season, and with my yak if I don't have a small boat yet. Gonna camp in my mini-van and set that all up. I have big plans! And I will fish more often.
  3. We are born with critical thinking skills that are quickly "taught" out of most of us. Children aren't afraid of the truth or to ask questions. Good story!
  4. Who? Is that a fishing thing I don't know about? I'm gonna do some trout fishing soon. I'll eat some if I can get 'em. I'd try different fish, I just haven't caught anything interesting. Been primarily bass fishing for two years. I ate a striper I caught a few years ago. It was good. I didn't have a knife that was even close to sharp so I shredded the poor thing (popcorn fish pieces), but I cooked and ate every piece I could get from it. It would have survived if I'd released it, I just decided to bring one home that day. First time I've caught and cooked anything in 30 years. Looking forward to more.
  5. It's shakier than usual for me too, no matter what I buy (amazon, fishing....). Not too bad, but a few orders have been late, a few others refunded me because of no stock. I'm surprised it's been as good as it has really. I bought an Ugly Stik Elite light for some trout fishing. The biggest guide wasn't aligned well and I thought about exchanging it, but nobody has any! They are a few weeks out at Bass Pro which is where I ordered it, but I see none available anywhere else. I ended up being able to align the guide (by "pushing" the next 2 guides into alignment rather than trying to move the big one, which I couldn't). Now the whole thing is perfect. Point is I'm better off keeping what I already have than screwing around with a return. Christmas won't help matters either.
  6. Thanks for the tip. Is this one of the places that require the additional county license or whatever? I've seen that they are $5 for a day, but can a yearly pass be purchased? I think it's only at stocked lakes. I wanna try the east bay, tired of the south! Maybe with the yak. Thanks for the tip. I wanna try the east bay, tired of the south! Maybe with the yak. Hey if anyone here wants to yak-fish the Delta, maybe out of Tracy, I'd like to not go alone. I've never yakked there and I'd be more comfortable with someone else nearby. My plan is to get out of the Bay Area this winter, and hit the Delta as well as try creek trout fishing (where, I don't know yet exactly)
  7. Yes you can park at either place legally. Barbless only (they check), artificial lures only, and no fishing November 16 to April every year. Barnhart you just drive to the end and park. You'll see signs about the regulations, etc. There's a fence you walk through. Ogier you park at the end past the trailer park. I park at one place or the other depending on which ponds I want to fish. The place I fished the most this year is the road that goes to the golf course (from Monterey). It's the old entrance. You'll see the bike path, just park wherever and follow the path (I go North). You're fishing the creek there. no "ponds". I wanna fish this weekend somewhere just to get a line wet. Might hit Uvas.
  8. I was bank fishing about a month ago and well...I generally don't approve of leaving a bio-hazard behind...anyways I had to go, picked a well hidden spot, wrapped all the napkins that I used in napkins I didn't use (in a resealable empty plastics Stik-O bag), and hauled them out with me. The bag worked well. I knew when I left that day there may be trouble so I brought a bunch of extra napkins. Maybe TMI but hey it's fishing related! When me and my Step-Bro Jeeped The Rubicon, we were told we had to pack out EVERYthing, even the "bio-material". I didn't take it that far at the local creek, but...okay that's enough about that.
  9. Yes, there and many other places all along the creek. But I do fish primarily in the general area you mention. There are the ponds and also the creek itself. My Avatar photo is my PB and I caught it at those ponds last summer (5.25#). Highway 101 should be in the background. You mean the Almaden res up Hicks road is crowded, or the one off Almaden and Coleman? Just curious, I've never fished the one up the hill. I fished Guadalupe once and caught my Personal Worst there. This little guy got a popper - I heard a little tiny "ploop" sound and found this on my line... Where did you park? I thought about Ubering there. I see no parking signs everywhere. Actually I was slightly wrong - the ponds I fish are south more toward Morgan Hill. The ones you see are probably the old Parkway Lakes that used to be stocked many years ago. The ones I fish are south of the golf course. Anywys close enough It's fun to hike around and fish there.
  10. All of that is possibly true, but I fish the same creek pretty successfully every week and it died several weeks ago. Fall was awesome. Now it's closed for the season too. I really wish I could find where they go all winter but oh well. My local fisheries are very tough on the best days. I have a friend up at Don Pedro who is catching, but it's just so tough in the Bay Area. I'm gonna do a road trip up to some good lakes and streams soon.
  11. Far as I got.
  12. If you add a separate water nozzle to use as a bidet you wouldn't even need TP! Could also serve as a water fountain for the kids! Problem is if you have fish in there...well hmmm...
  13. I stopped catching completely several weeks ago, so it may as well be winter far as I'm concerned. San Jose.
  14. I'm in the South bay and I was thinking about heading your direction to find fish! Great In the South Bay (it's generally tough here): Uvas Res - has nice bass. Walk across the dam or stay on the road side. Water is low so you can walk the whole lake. Fished it a week or so ago and got no bites. Not unusual even during "season". Chesbro Lake - avoid. Not a lot of bass. Crowded with carp hunters. Coyote Creek - closed til April but a great place to get away from the crowds when it's open. I get good numbers here. Coyote Lake - never fished from shore but known for good bass. I've caught em on the kayak. Guadalupe and Almaden Reservoirs - no parking anywhere near them, but good fisheries. Calero has bass. Delta - I'm going to fish for stripers and other goodies this winter. Not too far (especially for you) considering the awesomeness of the place. The Bay. Could be interesting.
  15. I like Tom's idea. Also, Demo Mode, since it does not use the transducer, will not use as much battery as normal mode. Also the poster above who said that lower watt units can be run out of the water is correct, but definitely do your research first. No you won't get image burn on your screen.
  16. Where to fish and what to fish with is the question of all questions!
  17. I have a few Planos in my backpack and it gets set upsidedown, tossed on the ground randomly and knocked around, and my tackle stays put. Oh a few small hooks may slip around, but not very often. My Planos are the cheap ones from Walmart - 3600 and 3700. $2-3 each. I like my boxes organized vertically because it's easier to see which box I'm grabbing, and it's easier to pull them out of the pack.
  18. I'm still in the "Then" phase. Been bass fishing 2 1/2 seasons. I'm quickly and steadily improving, 'bout all I can say so far. Expanding my knowledge of fish behavior is, I think, the primary reason. I focus on where to fish., then how, then what, in that order. I think I do anyways??
  19. I actually read the post I quoted wrong, I don't like the marine goop idea. I thought the foam was glued together or formed in such a way that it would be secure in the hull without fastening it down. Interesting that the Velcro works well for people. Cool to know. I'm for non-permanent solutions though, but if I had to use one of these methods Velcro would be more to my liking than glue. Easier to remove later. Arranging stuff in a fishing yak is quite a puzzle for sure.
  20. Very creative! Mine is an onomatopoeia (ya I had to look up that spelling). Like a sound effect - "splat!" I believe I was imagining a frog being squished. Back around 1996 on ICQ chat. Kinda wished I had a different one but oh well. At least it's unique.
  21. Finally I have a good excuse to avoid most of my family at Christmas this year and go fishing!
  22. I have 17 GoPros mounted on my hull.
  23. I like this type of thinking. I'd want something more secure and durable than Velcro. My battery is in a DIY ammo box thing strapped behind my stadium seat. Has a few contacts and USB ports too.
  24. Apparently anything with a hook on it will catch bass in your pond!
  25. If the paranormal were real it would be normal.
