  1. Ya they are definetly upset with you when you hook up with one of them, they are also pretty aggressive towards a spinnerbait, Ive hooked bunches of them on spinnerbaits and no they are never too happy about it ;D
  2. Id say no they dont effect the bass fishing, I fish a dead lake off the Pearl River and its loaded with two things gar and monster bass. When the water level is up enough where you can access this lake from the river by boat its probably the best bass fishing around here and has some true trophys in it, it also has alot of gars but nevers seems to effect the bass fishing. Only if the river was up more, can usually only get in there two or three months out of the year.
  3. my wife may divorce me if i spent that on a lure......hehehe ;D
  4. Mississippi resident license for freshwater is $9.85 , there's an additional charge for saltwater fishing not sure what it is. I dont do any salt water fishing.
  5. no doubt this is one of the most important things being able to find fish, ive worked alot on how i fish and why i fish what i fish but this is one thing im still personally learning is how to find em. Where they are and why they are where they are.
  6. I have met some of these ***holes in some open tournaments I have fished in. I dont think sportsmanship is dead, but is these people who make our sport look bad. From what Ive seen those anglers who get out and talk trash are the same ones that get on the water and show their tale. Break the law, not always but Ive noticed alot of them showing out on the water. But that select group of people mouth off to you usually in front on the other competing anglers and whoever else may be at the lake. I joined a bass club back in January and have been very fortunate to get involved with a great group of guys where all that kinda crap dont go on. The older guys in the club are always offering advice to young anglers such as myself and everybody is really cool towards one another. Everybody seems to be friends and get along great on and off the water, Im just thankful to be part of this club. I have enjoyed it very much from the great conversation with all the anglers on and off the water, to being able to learn from the older and wiser anglers to great fishing, its alot of fun. O and thank you bassresource I actually found the club Im in through the club links on this website.
  7. Ive always used a swivel with mine and never have had any problem with it twisting, I have alot of success dropshotting so Im gonna say it doesnt hurt the action
  8. me too, im not gonna buy a bunch of cheap baits so i can say i have a bunch of tackle but i will stock up on those that i have to be productive and that is usually a quality bait, ive got some of both that ive found productive but the quality baits are usually the ones that i do find most productive except when it comes to soft plastics. Zoom which is not expensive, pretty cheap has outperformed all other soft plastic brands ive used by a long shot. But then when it comes to something like a crankbait, Lucky Craft has been most productive by a long shot for me.
  9. Id say 2 lbs, 2 1/2 at the most
  10. Im one of those people who believes in catch and release. Of course on occasion I take home a mess of bass to eat. I just wonder if anybody thinks catch and release is being overdone??? I mean if you throw them all back , sooner or later doesnt the food source for those fish become harder to find for them and they dont grow as well. Ive wondered about this from time to time but over this past weekend as I was fishing I really started thinking about it alot. My buddy and I went to one of our favorite lakes, he had been there several times here recently but it was my first time to fish this particular lake in probably a year or more. He mentioned on the way that it had become over populated and that we shouldnt have problem finding fish but he didnt know what kind of size they would be. He was right. Dink after dink after dink. The highlight of the day was a 14 incher I caught. Thought we would be smart at one point and drop off deep and try throwing some deep diving crankbaits, thinking those dinks wont bite this in my mind I throw the Norman DD22, it dont matter, more dinks. All these fish were like about 8 inch fish. Fun catching a boat load but I really like catching big fish too. Just makes me wonder why they are not growing?????? Any opinions or suggestions on why this lake is this way????
  11. Yep. Dig around the site a little, particularly in "Fishing Articles." Our library is extensive and most have links for additional reference. We might not have "everything" but we're pretty close. The great fishing articles here are the reason I first starting coming to bass resouce, greatest fishing site on the net by far. Alot of great stuff here, Ive learned alot from the articles and from this forum.
  12. I personally struggled for a long time with crankbait fish but this year it seems like I just turned a light switch only and suddenly it started working for me. You just gotta experiment with them as far as the retrieve, the two things that are working best for me are the stop and go tecnique and also just cranking it down bout 5 or 6 times pausing and giving it a couple of jerks with a pause then repeat. Also fishing around stumps running the bait into stumps and pausing for a sec like a stunned bait fish. These are just a few things that are working for me, hope it can be of some help to ya.
  13. Zoom soft plastic lizards and finesse worms, fishing them texas rigged, carolina rigged and shakey head. Deep diving crankbaits, the Norman DD18, DD22, the Rapala DT series, and the Lucky Craft Pointers. The Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap particually in 1/2 ounce size in blue/black.
  14. i was thinking bout this earlier in the day, when i was on the water this morning, going back out tuesday evening think ill give a try then after hearing some of you have had success with it, caught em today pretty good on a carolina rig with a finesse worm and a texas rigged senko, i may try the shakey head tube next trip out tho
  15. the carolina rig is my favorite by far, i guess because i catch far more fish on it than i do the texas rig. texas rig i like to fish in shallow water and around laydowns, sits on the bottom and i will either hop it or drag it along the bottom where the carolina rig i fish in deeper water, around all types of cover. the carolina rig is a bait that will suspend off the bottom i have a great deal of success with this lure, especially when the bite is slow ill throw it out there and just let it sit and occasionally give a little twitch, always catch em on the c -rig, i love carolina rigging it
  16. Im down is south mississippi and humidity is pretty bad most of the time but it doesnt effect the fishing. Honestly I know alot of people say this or that or the other about the weather effects the fishing but I dont believe in all that. I believe in adapting and finding what the fish want.
  17. I like the 1/2 ounce Strike King jig in blue/black with a craw trailer
  18. A brand new Gander Mountain opened Tuesday in Hattieburg,MS. I was there last night with my family and of course the bait monkey was there. Its so nice to finally have somewhere nearby with a good selection of tackle, of course my wife didnt think so by the time we got out of there. I can now drive 30 minutes instead of the two hour drive it was to Bass Pro Shops in Brandon. Racked up on soft plastics galore, plenty of swimbaits and crankbaits. Lots of Norman DD22s and Rapala DTs. Ill be back soon maybe next Ill leave the wife at home and itll just be me and the bait monkey.....lol.
  19. how bout turtles, ive noticed them doing that
  20. I prefer to fish it texas rigged, I also fish them carolina rigged and on a shakey head
