  1. yea, you definitely have to try t-riggin em. I have also thought of using them as a jig trailer, anyone try it?
  2. Well if you know bass are in there, for sure, use a 7" TX rigged plastic worm. I would suggest motor oil or red shad. One of these colors will work in almost any situation if you just slowly hop it along the bottom. I am in agreement though, there doesnt seem to be any structure at all, it really just looks like a decorative pond more than anything.
  3. I do the Jimmy Houston also and kiss every fish. Then when I realease them I tell them "Its been my pleasure" Kind of just a reflection of the respect we should all have for nature and how priveleged we are to be able to fish the way we do.
  4. anyone else fish them yet? I bought a bag of green pumpkin and I am in love with them. I have been catching all my fish of beds with them, and I love the action. Not to mention they are durable enough to catch several fish on them, making them a great value.
  5. March 26th on this board, Subject "On the Nest"
  6. Well, since no one helped, I figured it out on my own and here are the results.
  7. OK, traditionally I have missed this time of year, but there were a few fish on the beds at the local pond. I walked right up on a fish and he saw me and didnt run off, so I knew he was catchable. I backed off and began fishing. Worked him for about 45 minutes and threw everything I had with no success. about 10 minutes later another guy walked up with a small white lizard and caught the same fish within 10 minutes. A really nice 3 1/2 or 4lber. I had tried lizards, but not a white one. Was it the color, or is there a certain spot on the bed that he hit, that I did not.
  8. looking for a bass club in the area that will accept non boaters. any information would be great.
  9. I think that when scents actually do work, it is more or less because it is masking the "human smell" or sunscreen or bug repellant we have on our skin. For spinnerbaits soaking them probably won't do alot of good (see above), but it sure cant hurt just to spray them with some sort of scent.
  10. Havent had a lot of time to really keep a Buzzfrog wet, but I love the action and the concept. I really think that in a couple weeks when our water temps in KY get up around 60 then the buzzfrog will truly shine. Has anyone fished them much? If so, any good sized fish? What color did you use (I just bought one pack, and it was whatever color looked most like an actualy frog to me [Chartruese belly])?
  11. i would say deeper than 1-5 depending on water clarity, and the weather. On a day with a lot of sun, head to the shallows because they warm quicker. I have to say that my weapon of choice would probably be a jig with a trailer of a matching color.
  12. Oh wow, I went fishing alot as a kid, so its hard to keep all the different trips straight, but I will never forget my first bass. Bluegill fishing with Dad and my Uncle, I snuck into my uncles tackle box (strictly forbidden) and tied on a roostertail. As soon as the bait hit the waiter a bass slurped it in. I set the hook hard, turned my back to the bank with the rod over my shoulder and ran 50 feet until i knew there was no way the fish was getting back in the water. He was about 2 1/2 lbs, but he was special because that was what all the MEN fished for. Suddenly I was one of them, and hooked on bass fishing forever.
  13. black and blue all the way. trailer to match.
  14. storm! hands down. I dont know that I have ever even had a bite on something made by storm.
  15. thanks for the tips, maybe its just a matter of keeping a crankbait wet. I guess whats most frustrating is usaully if I want to learn how to fish something I can get on here, read the boards and some articles and it only takes a couple trips to start catching fish. just hasnt been that way with a crankbait at all.
  16. Never in my life have I caught a fish on a crankbait. I have read all the articles i could stand to read on this site, and old posts, magazines and everything, and still have never caught anything on one. I actually limited myself to only crankbaits for about 5 or six hours one day and caught nothing, only to switch to a culrpit worm and catch a decent 1 1/2 lber on the 4th cast. Maybe that just wasnt a "crankbait day," but i really dont think so. Anyone have any general suggestions or techniques?
  17. Red Shad and Black are a close second but one color that gets overlooked that absolutely kills em, and it my all time favorite is Motor Oil.
  18. I absolutely agree with all the above as far as trailers. I have had the best luck with jigs just dragging them back real slow. If you get hung up on something for a second and have to pull the jig free, let it sink back to the bottom at rest, then shake it in place for a few seconds before continuing your retrieve. You will often times get strikes while shaking. Hope this helps.
  19. the best luck ive had on a jig is fishing it as SLOW as possible. short hops along the bottom or even just a really slow crawl. A strike on a jig, from my experience, is very similar to a worm bite. Usually you will feel a tap or two on the line and they will start to swim off to one side with it. A crawfish imitation and blue/black with matching trailers are all you really need to get started, and dont be afraid of hanging up, it happens.
  20. oh, and as far as structure there is an old creek channel that I worked the jig(s) around for a while and again nothing. That was all I really had the option of fishing from where i was standing.
  21. "were you fishing from a boat? What has the weather been like the past few days? Location of the lake? Sometimes, you cant catch fish no matter what you do........Did you try upsizing or downsizing your lure? How bout changing color? Were the fish suspended? You said they were jumping, did you try some sort of topwater? " Fishing from a dock, weather has been warm and sunny, location = KY, tried a 1/8 ounce and 1/2 oz jig and a 5 and 7.5 in worm in several colors. suspended i dont know, and yes i tried a spook for a minute with absolutely no success. no follows, no slurps, no nothing.
  22. Went on my first true fishing trip today and didnt get a single bite. Water was about 54 degrees and pretty clear for this lake. Wind was blowing, hard. Although im pretty knew to it, it was almost impossible to use my new baitcaster. I tried every depth from 15 feet all the way up fishing mostly brush piles and some lay downs and docks with a jig (black/blue), spinnerbait (chart/white) and shaky head worm (motor oil and red shad). I was sure one of these would work and got nothing. It seemed as if fish were active (jumping) any suggestions?
