NoVA angler
Hello, I'm Kenny, 19, Leesburg VA area, bank angler. After nearly five years of never fishing, I was finally bored enough and picked up the rod and reel last September. I've been hooked ever since, pun intended, and now fishing never leaves my mind. When I was young (aka when I had freetime) I would go fishing all the time, taking a medium spinning rod, some light spinnerbaits and my bag and go fish my community ponds (yup only spinnerbaits, no worms or other plastics). Now, I'm ready to cement my comeback with a new arsenal of baitcasters, lures, and gear. And with spring around the corner, i am going to fish the heck out of this year. My go-to lures as of last fall and winter are: Spinnerbait Chatterbait Light and heavy t-rig SWIM JIG (best producer) Finesse jig Drop shot Frog Neko

I'm going to start throwing this....
+1. Ive spent hours wondering how i never consistently threw a t-rig, even though it's a huge fundamental

Does anyone here share my dilemma of treble hook lures?
For jerkbaits, I use a soft zoom super fluke because of its versatility and weedless capability. But this winter got me interest in hard jerkbaits since the fluke would get stiff in the cold water FOR ANYONE WHO MADE IT THIS FAR: The title has been changed from "fear" to "dilemma". I do appreciate all the advice on avoiding trebles to the hand (it is also a concern that adds to the overall dilemma), however, I'm not necessarily afraid of the actual hooks

Does anyone here share my dilemma of treble hook lures?
That's the sort of technique that I always saw in those YT videos that amazed me. And I can only imagine its productivity, since the fish would not only angry at the crank, but would feel more confident and aggressive in the cover as opposed to being suspended in open water.

This was the first winter i tried fishing ever and was the reason why I was intrigued with trebles. I've heard many stories of rattletraps and jerkbaits in the winter. Walmart deceives me with all of their $2-$3 baits, causing me to spend more on those than I would buying one spinnerbait per trip. The irony for me is that I throw jigs, spinnerbaits, and t-rigs with this mindset ("throw it like you already lost it"), but just can't cross that threshold for treble hooks.

Does anyone here share my dilemma of treble hook lures?
As an angler who grew up fishing ponds in Virginia, I find that I never use lures with treble hooks. I will throw chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs (especially swim jigs), t-rigs of all kinds, buzzbaits, frogs, and finesse rigs around weed edges and brush all the time with confidence, but not treble hooks. If I were to use a lipless or squarebill in some of my ponds, it would seem like I was decorating all the weeds like it was Christmas. It gets more confusing when I see these videos and hear people say, "... I was bumping a crankbait down there off trees and rocks" and I go "Huh, ok i guess." then I try it and last two casts. Only times I caught fish on a treble hook bait is when I caught two on a Mike Bucca's Bull Shad, which doesn't sink or dive. I do sometimes want to throw poppers, spooks, and whopper ploppers, but I don't really feel motivated to tie them on over frogs and buzzbaits. I don't really intend on changing my ways (as I have pretty good success with single hooks), just trying to see if anyone shares my confusion.

Rizzuto finishing a normal line-to-hook knot?
This isn't something I've tested, only just thought of it. I would imagine a knot like a Palomar (or any knot with a tag end going away from the hook) would be most applicable for a rizzuto finish. I'm simply wondering whether ya'll think it would make a knot stronger/weaker and whether people even do it. Of course, this would be with braided line.

Heavy Cover Swim Jig on a MH/F rod?
Thanks, I probably wouldn't be fishing in thick cover, mostly the standard weed edges and light brush. Definitely going to be buying some 30-40 braid soon

Heavy Cover Swim Jig on a MH/F rod?
Such a question is exactly why I bought the swim jig. The jig seems to be a mix between a flipping and swim head with a thick heavy hook, but medium brush guard (thicker than a true swim jig and less than a true flipping jig) I would say that those examples would describe the heavy cover that is advertised

Heavy Cover Swim Jig on a MH/F rod?
I recently purchased a 3/8 Terminator Heavy Duty Swim Jig in the white color. The hook on the swim jig is a 5/0 heavy wire VMC hook. Is a MH/F rod too light for this type of hook? The reel has 15 lb fluoro, as well. Been wanting to get into the heavy duty swim jig game, as the light wire swim jigs were my best producers last year.

GOOGAN POP UP
For me, I only watch two of the Googans on YouTube, 1rod1reel and Jon B., as a 2001 child. What I found funny about this thread was how everyone's opinion on it, whether for or against the Googans, was stuff that I completely 100% agree with. But, when it comes to over-dramatized content and illegal activities, both 1rod1reel and Jon B. don't seem to be in that realm (which is most likely why I choose to watch them and not their business partners). I also don't have a problem with their baits, as far as quality and pricing goes, but I understand that I may have different limitations and preferences than others. Basically, I'm a fan of two of the Squad members and have used Googan products, but I can't say that I am a fan of the Googan Squad as a whole.

Need help remembering the name of a lure
I haven't seen this lure in so long (maybe 10 years ago at a Bass Pro Shop). It is a soft plastic bait with joints(?)(not metal, just thinner parts of the bait) and has a small plastic ring on the nose that looks like a line tie but is actually used to put a hook through, like a nose-hooked soft jerkbait. I believe there are different sizes and colors. Does anyone know the name of the brand or the actual bait?

Go-to saying before setting the hook
What is your go-to saying before you set the hook on a fish? Something that you whisper when you feel that first strike. I've always been doing the classic "There he is..." followed by a strong hookset (very Swindle-esque).
